X1 has some pretty good exclusives coming this holiday like Halo 5, Forza 6, even Tomb Raider (like 360 version counts!). Wii U, not so much (dat Zelda yo). And PS4? well, there's to consider that it is the multiplat machine for this gen, so the heavy hitters like Call of Duty will definitely help. But surely the X1 should win this holiday? We all know PS4 automatically wins 2016.
If they can deliver a quality Tomb Raider and Halo to their devote fans then sure, maybe a moral victory.
As someone else pointed out in another thread yesterday, they have a lot of bundles coming out too, and if those don't sell for the holidays, then surely they'll be selling afterwards when retailers need to clear the seasonal bundles out of inventory and offer them at a discount.
They are selling at a loss, and the PS4 is becoming what the Xbox 360 was last gen. As in the defacto go to console for third party block buster multiplats to the mass market consumer. Frankly the PS4 is all around marketed better, and the device itself tends to maintain more positive news than anything for one reason or another. I would wager that the PS4 will actually be the big bread winner this holiday.
Games? I mean maybe, but that's if we take the PC out of the equation, and in the realm of console gaming with the lineups the 3 platforms are pimping out? It's a battle of who is the tallest midget. Make no mistake about it all 3 of them suck, one of them might suck slightly less than the others.
The ability to actually entertain champ? Halo 5 looks fun mp wise, but it's more Halo. Tomb Raider might be okay, Forza is Forza, I would have been more interested in the newer ips, there is literally no exclusive for the PS4 that appeals to me from this year (besides Bloodborne which is already out), and WiiU wise...Starfox looks fun, but it's more StarFox, mildy interested in Mario Maker, Yoshi, Xenoblade, and really wanting to play Fatal Frame, so I guess The WiiU's exclusives will ultimately end up entertaining me more this year.
I think sales are gonna be real close. X1 with it's backwards compat, PC Streaming, Windows 10 ecosystem and excellent game line up is gonna make a helluva run. I said it before on another thread and I'll say it again here. I like what Spencer and Nadella are doing with MS and Xbox. The consoles are close in terms of visual fidelity, but this really only makes a difference to hardcore fan boys. Your average consumer is going to look at all the options as opposed to number crunching graphics power.
Don't know and don't care. MS and Sony will sell well for different reasons this holiday, as long as they are there to compete against each other than I'm happy. Gamers need competition or else we'll get a $600 dollar Playstation again with their arrogance or we'll get a $500 Xbox with features that we don't even wont.
There just a small difference.Xbox 360 was $100-150 cheaper than ps3 and it was released one year before ps3.Now ps4 is $50 more expensive than xbox one and it's selling like crazy.
TBH I think the hardcore Halo fans have the console already. They may move some systems at Christmas....everyone does but I don't think it will be a blow out. And if Sony reduces the cost.....

yeah this. I think once a console its 299 tho it's not looked at the same, it's not "high class hardware" if you will, so i doubt Microsoft lowers the price at all. The thing would sell really well at $299 tho.

Well yes, it's inevitable because of Sony moving games and them starting the momentum early.
For august, Xbox One has no competition, you have rare replay, Gears and MAdden, 2 of which also have bundles on top of the software. That will go into Septmeber, but also with Fifa and Forza 6 which also both have bundles. Then you have the momentum from that going to October with the Halo 5 and a couple multiplats. Then in November you have FO4 marking along with Tombraider, which tomb raider and Fall out MAY get bundles.
Fable will also be thrown in there somewhere. As well as Rainbow Six. Which has MS marketing.
This will be on top of the same multiplats as it's only competitor that tries.
Yes Sony can prevent a walloping and maybe even win one month with a price drop and bundling the right choice of games. But overall in NA I see Xbox One winning the holidays inevitable. Even more so if Sony does not drop the price or if the price drop is only $350.

Looking at the sales aligned, there isn't a way one can say they lost their installbase. We won't know if the PS4 had taken a good chunk of the 360 userbase until after this holiday.
If Halo 5 turns out to be a solid launch and not make the same mistakes from MCC, then it might have a chance. Rise of Tomb Raider, we'll see if gamer will support this timely exclusive deal which by the way I'm really looking forward on how it all turns out and with Xbox One BC coming this Autumn, not much of a big deal. So with that, Xbox One is still in second place and I just don't see them catching up to PS4 this holiday. Hell MS is even lucky to be in second place thanks to Nintendo's Wii U screw ups and MS is bless not to be in 3rd place.

Really? Current sales don't matter? Because the hard core gamers are also the early adopters. Now it's up to some hold outs and casuals.
It all depends on the pricing of each console going into the holidays.
If the Playstation 4 and the Xbox one each have a $299 bundle, as I suspect they will, I would say Sony will win. If Microsoft goes $299 and Sony doesn't match, then Microsoft will win.

If anything i think PS4 sales will gain an even bigger boost this holiday with the E3 announcement of FF7 Remake coming to PS4.
This. I'd also add that PS4 will likely sell better considering Sony has those exclusive COD and Star Wars marketing deals. Halo is big but it isn't as big as those two juggernauts.

I know MGS5 is the only other game on PS4 I am buying this year. X1 I will buy Rare Replay, Halo 5, RotTR, Fallout 4. As for winning the holidays, I don't know, wont care all that much. I'll be playing those games.

In my opinion,I think with the consoles Microsoft sold since the Xbox original,they have not done a bad job at all.I think the Xbox brand belongs in the vg market and for generations to come as well.I myself prefer Xbox over Sony or Nintendo.Let's not forget,Microsoft has brought a lot of great games into the vg market.
