Poll Do you think you'll ever finish your backlog? (91 votes)

yes 18%
no 82%

I'd like to think I'd get there, but given all the crazy deals on PSN and PC, it's very hard to lay off on the games. Take for example the PSN flash sale today or the deals on greenmangaming. Would be nice if I could put a stop to it, but since it's so cheap, hard to to say no. I also like getting those games for my collection. What say you, SW? Can you realistically finish your backlog?

Copy lasting the OP since polls are broken:

Hell naw. I'm buying ME Trilogy tonight and will be replaying that and putting other games on hold. Very typical behavior for me so I'll never get around to completing everything I own, all the while re-beating other games I own multiple times.

No. I'd have to be bedridden for at least a year to do that.

From memory alone here's my list...

  • FarCry 4
  • Saints Row 4
  • Alien: Isolation
  • Sniper Elite 3
  • Borderlands: Pre-Sequel

Those are just the recent ones.

I don't feel bad for not completing them... They either are not as good as the games that came out at the time and or just didn't hold my interest past the "honey moon" hype period.

The first week of any game above average is purely hype and once the first week of release goes by that's when you can tell if a game is truly a great game or just okay.

Also I know some of these games can be completed in one sitting but as a working adult with a child... 1-2 hours a day IF I am lucky is pretty much all I can devote to games.

What does one sitting consist of? A 12 hour marathon? No one has time for that

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: I got way more backlog than you, but can relate. I have a full time job, a wife, 2 kids, and a hyper active pup... a few hours a night if I'm lucky and don't fall asleep on the couch first. I stay up till 3 just to get my gaming time in, then off to work at 8:30 am.

That's gonna be rough on your long-term well being if you continue to stay up like that.

I did, and if you give me some money I will show you how!

Just make a list. I too was paralyzed by "backlog indecision" but I can now say I am free of my completion anxiety. And now is the perfect time, seeing how half of what comes out is crap.

nope. I don't have enough time to play them all, some frankly don't hold my interest anymore, and there always seems to be a new game coming out that I want. It doesn't really bother me because I try to limit my full price purchases to only games I have to have and collecting is part of the hobby for me

I share my steam library so all the games I don't play will possibly be played by someone else. It makes me feel less guilty about wasting money on something I won't ever play.

I'm just not that 14 year old kid anymore that wants to finish every game by playing 16 hours a day.

Never will, and I just keep buying games anyway. Just recently bought Assassin's Creed II, NIER, Alice: Madness Returns, Fable III and SSX 2012. I'll get Revelations 2 soon too if I can find a physical copy, and some games from the PSN Flash sale.

@playmynutz: two worlds? That games garbage never beat it it doesn't deserve it. Dragons dogma is awesome I beat it 3 times (all achievements and trophies)

Anywho, I'm assuming u mean 100 hours across all those game? I couldn't imagine anyone putting 100 hours in some of those titles

@i-rock-socks: I went hard at Two Worlds even with the glitches but never beat it because of broken quests. Skyrim, Fallout NV, and the Mass Effect trilogy, I easily had clocked over 100hrs in each lol (mainly because of starting over) the other games very close to it

Nope. Got games I still haven't even started on my 360 and PS3 yet and I can't see myself ever going back to them, especially since my collection of games I am still yet to play on my Xboner and PS4 is ever increasing. Sadly not enough hours in a day.

For sure. I only ever buy games with the full intention to finish them. For me, that's the point of buying them, not for collecting. There's nine games in my backlog, but there should be less. Need to spend less time on the internet, and more time playing.

I own a lot of games... coming up on 2,500. There is no chance in hell of this ever happening. I always think I will have them for a rainy day, but unless it starts raining and doesn't stop for years, while simultaneously not flooding the earth or my house... then I would say it is nearly impossible. I keep thinking that one day (probably when gaming goes to hell.. aka all digital.. then I will randomly choose a game and play it to completion. I have done it a couple times already before.

Not a chance.

Off the top of my head I have:

Destiny, AC: Unity, TLoU: Remastered, DA: Inquisition, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade, Majora's Mask 3D, Okami HD, KotOR, KotOR2, FFXIII-2, FF Type-0 HD, Watch_Dogs, LEGO Batman 3, uh... there's plenty more too. Definitely not as much as some people but yeah, this list ain't gonna ever be finished.

No. I probably have like 100 PS3 games still to play at this point. No way I get to it.

I had been working on my 360 backlog, but I think I'm finished with that. Actually just traded in the console, and will be getting PS4 soon. I'm selling off my 360 collection of games to make room - a few of the unplayed games were digital and I feel kinda bad I never got to them. But sacrifices had to me made LOL. I'm never going to "trade" my PS3, but I might start selling off some of the physical games that I decide I just don't have time for (or that I never should have bought in the 1st place).

Those flash sales are the biggest reason for my giant backlog LOL. But I must have at least 50 physical games as well. I can't even list all the PS3 or Steam games I have in my "backlog" that I haven't started. Have a couple dozen Vita and 3DS games I need to get to as well (although most of the Vita games are actually thanks to PSN+, so I'm not sure if those count). Incredibly I even have a few Wii-U games in "backlog" - even though i don't even own a Wii-U LOL.

I finally cut ties with my 360, and left it with some unfinished backlog. I feel I couldn't even move into next gen until I at least finish a big chunk of these games. So far I've been refuhing to get PS4 until I get a dent into my last gen backlog. It felt good to finally get rid of the 360. Now I'm going to put a dent in my PS3 backlog, before I can finally justify getting my PS4.

No, I tend to play open world games and RPGs, so it takes me forever to finish one. If they're really good, I'll replay them at some point. I've gotten better about not buying games until I'm ready to play them.

Of course not, though I've done my best to get through a number of titles I really wanted done so far this year. Like others have said, steam and PSN deals end up enticing me into more games than I'll have time to play for years, and new releases that I play full price for generally jump to the front of the queue.

Hell, it would likely take several years of committed playing just to get through all the great titles I've yet to play on the DS.

Nope, not unless the industry quits making good, or at least interesting games altogether.

In all honesty though, there are only a hand full of games in my backlog that I feel are absolute must plays so it's not such a big deal that I'm missing out on the rest.

As long as they keep making games like The Witcher and Mass Effect it will never happen. However, I have been making a concerted effort to at least try each game in my library for a few hours and get a feel for the design that went into it. It's akin to working out. Sure I'd rather be mountain biking, but if don't at least do some sit-ups every day I'll never get away from using the "I'm pregnant with a dozen donuts joke".

I have almost 772 games on steam alone. And I don't think even 5% percent of those I finished.

There are massive libraries in other old platforms that I don't even use anymore. So I don't think it's within the realm of possibility to finish any gamer's backlog in this day and age.

Hm, maybe I've always misunderstood the definition of the backlog. I thought it was just games that we would like to play, but simply haven't had the time. I didn't think it really mattered if we owned them or not.

If currently owning the game is a qualifier then my backlog would could easily be tackled. It's rare that I'll purchase a game that I don't intend to play the moment I get it.

Same. There are a good deal of games that I want to play but I'm not gonna lay down the money and have it sit there taking up room unless I'm gonna do something with it.
