I see myself being a gamer for life. Heck, my Gamespot account is almost 15 years old and I've been coming here since the days of videogames.com But I think the real reason why I'll continue is because gaming continues to get better. It's great to have grown up with gaming so to speak. It will suck though when all of the great current developers retire. What about you, SW? Has quitting gaming ever crossed your mind?

I've taken breaks when I did consider it, but at this point, I don't see myself ever going cold turkey. Even if current gen games disinterested me, I'd just buy and replay older ones.

I have also taken breaks mainly due to grad school and work. I didn't play that many games last year.

I took long breaks from gaming while I was dating. Then, I resumed gaming after I got married.

Well considering that I’ve been an avid gamer for about 40 years now and am enjoying now as much as I ever have I really don’t foresee me getting bored with it and quitting.

Gaming is the only hobby I have that I never got too bored that I quit for good. Good thing I have "on and off" moments with the 30+ years I am into the hobby.

I have always gone through periods of not playing. I don't know what the next words im going to say are and I like life like that. One moment at a time, no need to think about any further than now.

With the way the industry is headed maybe. I play and look forward to less games than I have in the past and I have plenty of hobbies outside of gaming like sports and cars.

I feel like I should be doing something more productive with my time lately, I think gaming is fading. I will always play but not to the amount I once did.

Video games have to many new experiences for me to get bored of them. Even if the gameplay gets repetitive, the art never does.

My gamespot account is almost 15 years old also and I, too, used to come when it was videogames.com. I have been a gamer for almost 30 years, started when I was 5 and was blown away when I first saw mario on NES. I will say that the direction gaming is going I could see myself falling off the cliff of new games. I don't think I'd ever stop playing my old stuff (Dreamcast, 360, NES , etc.). Gaming is becoming too business driven and too corporate. I remember the days in elementary of girls making fun of me for playing videogames because they weren't cool back then, but I loved them. Video gaming is in my blood. I miss stuff like game genie, cheat codes and full games made complete at launch. So, yes, I could see myself being driven out of the new stuff simply because of my mentality of games and how they used to be. I will say, though, that sonic mania and cuphead have given me hope that gamers like me haven't been totally forgotten about and there's a clear market to make more like those games since they are selling well. Also, shenmue 3 will force me to get a ps4, so I'm still hopeful of staying on for the ride to see where gaming continues to go.

42 years a gamer and counting, been bored lots of times but never quit.

Done lots of other things as well, was into Phycobilly as a teenager (look it up if you must know) served in British Army including the first Gulf War, got a degree in software engineering, a career in Fire and Flood restoration (used to be specialised in the electromechanical restoration but now it's everything), a wife and twin girls and plenty more in between. Being into gaming doesn't mean it has to rule your life but it's a damn fine hobby if you ask me. :)

Bored maybe, in a more specific sense like im bored of most FPS games for example but gaming in general ... nah. Its a way of life after so many years of gaming. Maybe there will be a time when i wont play as much but quit ? Naah

Nope. I've had dry spells through the years, especially during high school and college (in 1990s) but I've always manage to pick up the hobby again.

Been gaming for over 30 years (just turned 40 this year) and I'll never quit. Not exactly my only hobby. But gaming has and will always be a part of my life.

i sat out most of this gen at first due to money problems. however after waiting to see where the market was going, i got turned off. Nintendo switch renewed my interests into consoles and my wifes i7 laptop got me to use my steam account more. This gen was pretty lacking in innovation and companies seem to be intent on pushing digital content making games more expensive. After sitting out for a while a few decent games perked my interest.

I got a bit bored of gaming during the GameCube and PS2 era. Everything started to feel the same and got boring for me. The Wii actually helped me get interested again

Not really. If there are no interesting new games, I just play classics on 360, N64 or PS2. And there are plenty of those.

It might happen that I get fed up with new games some day, but I really do not see getting bored of retro gaming ever.

There are way too many different types of games to ever get bored of them. Even more so if you include board games. There's just no way unless you limit yourself to certain types of games.

I don't think so. I may not play that many games each year but there are still some that offer great experiences. Either single-player ones with interesting and immersive atmosphere and world or online multiplayer ones that I can play with my friends.

Been gaming forty years but I play tons less than I did just ten years ago but I'll probably always get an urge to game at least a little and still get excited for new stuff.

My interest in games has sort of declined a bit since BotW and P5 came out, but I do think that will be temporary. For instance, all they have to do is announce a new Life is Strange, and I'll be in.

Oh, I'm only less on SW now because I am more elsewhere lol. And I'm still really looking forward to games like Mario Odyssey- but, like, I waited like 5-8 years for BotW and Persona 5 to come out lol, that's a significant portion of my life I spent just waiting for those games. It's kinda lame, but now that they are out, it feels like the end of an era lol.

I can never quit so long as the genres I like most are still around. Heck. Even flight sims are still around.

Aerofly FS2

Flight Sim World

X-Plane 11

DCS

That's a lot for a niche genre, considering there is usually just one game per generation.

I'll admit that I'm not able to play my video games as much as I would like to anymore. But, I do try and play video games every day, and there are some games coming up that I can't wait to get my hands on. So...I might have to be more selective, but I won't be bored.

I've taken breaks from time to time. The longest only being a few months without playing anything.

My tastes have definitely changed though.

High school I was all about online shooters

Now I'm more into old school shmups and games with great single player (I'm in love with the Yakuza series right now)

I'm more afraid gaming will move in a direction I have no interest in. That some game I think is dumb is the next big thing and every AAA publisher has their studios out there trying to capitalize on trends I care nothing for.

I still love the idea of gaming, but I'm super bored with the current landscape of gaming.
