Do your real-life friends and relatives have any influence over which systems you own as well as which ones you spend time online with? Most of my cousins and friends play on Xbox Live, so the only way I can play them online is by getting a 360 and a Gold subscription. Sure, I have tried asking them if they wanted to play me on PC or PS3 online, but its never worked, mainly because they dislike PS3 and their PCs are not powerful enough to play most new games. So yeah, paying a Gold subscription is indeed worth the money if its the only way I can play my relatives and real-life friends (XBL is good anyways, I enjoy it regardless).

What about you? Do your friends have any influence over your gaming systems and which ones you spend time online with? Would you switch systems if its the only way you can play online with them? Have *you* had any influence on *their* gaming systems? :)

No. If they did, I'd be playing the Wii right now. And I had no idea anyone but one of my friends had a 360 when I got mine. And only one of my friends has a PS3.

No. I bought my 360 long before any of my friends got a 360. Actually some of them bought a 360 after coming over to play at my place. I bought a PS3 even though I don't have any friends that own one because I didn't want to miss its exclusives. Same applies to the Wii.

The majority of my friends have 360s, but none of us planned it that way. So I suppose not, but it worked out well for us anyways. Yay for multiplayer.

Systems? Not one bit. Games? Rarely. I buy systems I want and most of the games I buy are single player. I did buy Halo 3 because of other people though, even though I hate Halo.

I bought a 360 for the sole reason of playing with my little brother while I went college. Hell, I spent $300 of my scholarship money and when my mom asked about it, I just said "It had to happen!"

Before this gen started, me and most of my friends and cousins were PS2 fans (we liked the Xbox 1 as well, but not as much). We thought we'd be hardcore PS3 fans but instead we jumped ship to the 360... guess that 1 year head start really worked well for Microsoft, since we couldn't wait 1 year for PS3 :P

I'm sure you have a few friends out there. Remember, quality over quantity. When I left school, I lost 95% of my friends, the other 5% were my true close friends :)

I'm anti-social in my gaming (probably because i hate losing, doubly to people i know), so no :P

but i do play with other people with my handhelds and for a couple PC games.

pshh, friends, who needs em

but oddly enough, this forum has influenced me a bit. i probably wouldnt have bought VC or KZ2 if it wasnt from all the positive feedback here. lucky for me, theyre two of my favorite games this gen :)

Yes, they have direct influence. A good chunk of the games I play and own are for the systems that they own.

You need them for your psychological development. What you and what some other user said about having no friends is disturbing. Wow, no wonder there is a bad stigma for people who play video games.

No, but thats only because I made the decision to buy all three before they all launched. Next gen I will not make the same mistake and I will generally follow where my friends go for the online play and then get another system, most likely a Nintendo System

I originally wanted a 360, but then some stuff got screwed up and i never got it. then my friend got a ps3, then my dad got a HDTV, so i got a ps3 so we could watch blu-ray movies and i could play games. if my friend never got a ps3 i probably wouldn't have bought any system.

Damn this topic is for me!

I have a 360 because its all my friends use. No PS3. Only 360. It took the act of buying one to realize that all they have is CoD4. I have that for PS3. F U CoD! Now I have a 360 AND no friends! (lol, I'm kidding. I swear. I could make a list. But- uh, identity theft. Just take my word for it. Parenthesees OVER). Oh well, my 360 makes me slightly less bias here :).

Every time I have my cousins at my house I am selling them a PS3. Dude the PS3 is sooooo awesome! You got your Ratchet and Clank and your Little Big Planet and even your Uncharted. Oh good stuff! You should go buy one. Well one of them is getting one for Christmas this year. Now I'm a little afraid that he may be disapointed. God the last thing I need is him annoying me about how I forced him into a PS3. Well if he likes Burnout Paradise then that will hold him over for a year. Now then, if you made it this far and read my paragraphs, I'm sorry, your not getting your 2 minutes back. They're mine.

Nope. Otherwise I would have foolishly bought a 360 when it came out, rather than go with my instinct and choose PS3. Where I'll be playing Demons Souls, NGS2, and UC2.

hey, i was joking about not needing friends :P

but i do keep to myself when it comes to video games. sure, i discuss them time to time in school with some friends, but i like to do my own thing when im playing a game, so usually i'd rather just play by myself then with other people. nothing wrong with that right? :D

Definitely not, most of my friends have an 360 because it launched first. Though I personally didn't care they bought an xbox 360 it's good now that they all own a PS3 too. Games have always influenced my choice in systems. I wish I knew someone who owns a Wii :(

No, I own all 3. And the friends I really hang out a lot with, either have a Wii, a 360 or a PS3. Or some crazy combo of the two, so it all works out.

You might own all 3 as well as a high-end gaming PC (same as me), but do you friends influence which systems spend time playing online? They do for me... thats why I subscribed to XBL, even though I prefer PC online gaming better

I own all 3, but I do get versions of games based off what my friends own, so I get all my multiplats on PS3 cause of that, out of my gamer friends, all own a PS3, one owns all 3 other then me, but everyone else just has a PS3, though the ones with just PS3s are somewhat casual gamers, we do play "hardcore" games together.

Though also from the PS3-only owners, only one of them is a fanboy, the rest are completely neutral towards gaming.

No they don't. I don't actually ever play with them online, except back when we all got Brawl...not anymore though. We tend to always game locally, it's more fun that way.

Yeah, even though me and friends get games on the same console, we always end up playing it locally anyway, a couple of them only have wi-fi on their PS3 anyway, and local is just so much better anyway.

Yes. Because if I wanted to play games with them, I'd need the same system. I'm just glad all my friends bought a 360. Had it been a PS3 then I'd claim No and still purchase my 360.

Having bought my Wii at launch, most of my friends wanted one right away too so now we all have Wiis, having an occasional Mario kart Wii or Smash Bros game every once in awhile if we can't go to each others houses. Also me and my (boy)friend love racing games so it's natural we upgrade our PCs for most racing games and multiplatform games, again most of my friends are also planning on upgrading their PCs now. We're currently debating on getting either a 360 or a PS3 for Forza 3 or Gran Turismo 4(respectively), we're guessing our friends will follow suit from which ever option we choose.

No, my so-called best friend is a Sony fanboy, who likes a game on Xbox 360or Wii, but wouldn't buy another console to save his life. My other friend or cousin(who ever he is) loves all consoles like me, and he'll go Nintendo first like me, but his parents would never buy him more than one console, or he's scared to ask them. Well he has a job now, well most of my friends and family were PS2 fans turned 360 fans, but I like my uncle Robert because back in 2001 he was the first Xbox fanboy I knew, and he gave me all his old games, and he was never into playstation, and likes Nintendo too, he also gave me all of his old Xbox 1 games 5 years ago.

But my friends look at me weird because I own all consoles every generation, and they get fanboyish and buy one console and get mad at me.

Many of my friends dont really play video games, but the first one that did upgraded to a PS3.

I was still with my PS2 those days but the idea of playing with him as well as another friend who later on was given a PS3 became a big reason for me to get one too.

I also have about 3 others real-life friends who also own a PS3. Ironically, it seems PS3 is the popular choice. Now a couple do have the 360, but oh well. I would die to play Halo with them, but I'm satisfied with my MW 1, MW2 eventually, Killzone 2. and Uncharted 2 :D

Definitely. All my RL buddies have a PS3. If they went 360 instead, I would have kept mine too. They don't really effect which systems I own aside from the PS3, but the single biggest reason I have it now is my friends.
