Yes, they both upscale but only using an HDMI or VGA cable.

Even though the 360 can upscale DVDs, the playback isn't very good. The PS3 does a better job.

The PS3 does a great job of upscaling SD DVD's. It does such a great job that I have thought about taking all my old VHS's and transferring them onto a DVD. I was looking at a VHS to DVD copying system and may pic one up after a little time has passed to make sure most of the bugs are worked out.jimm895

An upscaled DVD still looks like a DVD. It gets cleaned up a little bit, but it still looks low res. And on TVs with decent built in scalers there is almost no difference between running a regular progressive scan DVD player and an upconverting one.

It is funny most of these facts people just gave you are wrong. The Ps3 upscales all dvd's to 1080p if you want it too. You have like 4 options: NORMAL; Double Scale;Full and Off. However the Ps3 does not upscale games to 1080p, but the xbox 360 does. The xbox 360 does not upscale Dvd's to 1080p.

The 360 does upscale DVDs, but only through VGA or HDMI (if you have an elite), not component.

I have decided on the PS3 console but I sure like the type of games the 360 has out right now. Example, Halo3, gears of war etc. Note I have never played any of these games it just seems that they 360 games apeal more to me than what is out for the PS3 now. Tell us what appeals to you on the 360 (specific games), and the PS3 owners can list the equivalent games on the PS3, both current and future. For the 2 you've already mentioned (Halo 3 and GeoW), the PS3 has Resistence/COD4/Warhawk/Uncharted.

Uhm... I may be wrong, but my PS3 upscales my PS2 games :)

Example, Halo3, gears of war etc. Note I have never played any of these games it just seems that they 360 games apeal more to me than what is out for the PS3 now. though the 360 is claimed to have nothing but shooters the opposite is more true. While both systems have some variety, it seems that the PS3 is the shooter machine with its higher scored games being shooters (R:FoM, UT3, Warhawk) and its hyped games being shooter based (MGS4, Resistance 2, Killzone 2). If you like shooters and to blow stuff up then it doesn't really matter which system but I find more variety on the 360.

I have never played any of the PS3 or 360 games. The only thing I have to compare is Resident Evil 4 on the wii. Santa got the Wii for the kids last year and daddy's been playing resident evil over and over again because IMO thats the only good shooter out for the Wii that apeals to me. I have come to the conclusion it's time for daddy to get a PS3 so he can play the big boy games! I read the reviews on a lot of the games out for the 360. Crysis, GeoW, Halo. Those seem to be what i'm looking for but for the ps3. I appreciate all the from everyone today.

A) talking in the third person and referring to yourself as "daddy" is beyond creepy, it borders on pedo-style.

B) crysis is only on pc, no matter how many fanboy pipedreams claim it will come to consoles.

3) get Metroid Prime 3 for the wii, it utilizes the controls fantastically and is an excellent shooter

4) why get a ps3 when all the games you refer to are on the 360 or pc? get a 360 or pc.

A) Agreed.

B) Crysis is confirmed for the PS3, Crysis 2 will probably come to both the Xbox 360 & PS3

C) Metroid Prime 3 isn't a standard shooter, although I do recommend the OP checks it out (since he owns a Wii - it's worth a rental at least)

D) Get a PS3 & PC - best of both worlds.
