Does anybody give a damn about Assassin's Creed modern story?

I was taken aback when in Origins, I was again treated to some modern-day Animus story. Does anybody even care about this at that point? Modern day story was a huge miss and the majority of the fanbase loathes when they're taken out of the game only to do some boring chores in the modern world. It completely ruined the flow of AC4 but thankfully had little presence but despite this, it was still extremely annoying.

Just write that crap out Ubisoft. Nobody cares about it. Just make your games about different Assassins throughout history. No need to chain your story lines to that incredibly poorly written and uninteresting garbage.

I don't give a shit about any story in any video game, I skipped most of Origins cut scenes, I enjoyed the gameplay so that's all that mattered to me.

I will do the same with the next AC game.

I used to love it! I actually thought UBIsoft may actually try and connect this great secret war over time... I reeeally liked the possibilities of how it could all work out. I actually cared about how Desmond fit into all of it... I even thought this all may lead to a modern day assassins creed to finish the story.

Ac3 killed it completely though. It never mattered after that and the devs stopped trying to tell a cohesive modern day story... The modern day element served the concept of using the Animus but the developers chose to stop engaging the gamer in meaningful ways.

This, I did like it. But now they might as well just get rid of the animus all together.

It should all culminate in 1 epic finale with Assassins Creed, Prince of Persia, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell ALL mixed together.

And it would totally make sense. Sam Fischer teams up with Watch Dog group, break into whatever Corp, Sam plugs into the animus and he must stop the Prince of Persia or some ish LOL

Do it Ubisoft!

Absolutely.

The best thing that Ubisoft could do--for me personally, I know not everyone will agree lol--is make a current or even near-future era Assassin's Creed.

I want to see the series end, I want all my questions answered. The conspiracies of the modern era we get glimpses of in the games thus far are really neat imo.

I want it to end not because I'm tired of it (I'm not, I still find them entertaining as hell), but because it needs to end for it's own good. It's like Breaking Bad; the show ended on a high note. It didn't go on for 10 seasons and go on so long it get's terrible, or we lose interest. Or the opposite, like that show Dexter; it was great for like 3 seasons, but then they're like "Man what awesome ratings! Let's keep going!" and they ruined it.

I love the historical settings and semi-realism of the locations (Notre Dame in Unity!?! GTFO amazing!), but modern architecture is pretty great too and, more importantly, huge.

Honestly not that important to me, though. I Would just like to see a modern-era AC game is all. I think it'd be fun!

Ending of AC2 pretty much killed it for me. Then Brotherhood set the corpse on fire.

To sum it up - no.

Yeah this summarises my feelings. The Illuminati/aliens/conspiracy stuff (We started WW2! We murdered Kennedy, Kennedy and King!) was awesome. But it kinda fell apart then.

There was an Assassin reference in Watch Dogs 1, so there's precedent for a shared universe already ;)

Yeah, they need to just cut it out. It was kinda cool in the first and second game, but after that, it became just a heap of boring.

In the original trilogy, it could have been interesting to eventually move into a modern Assassin vs. Templar story. Nowadays, it's just disjointed shit.

I enjoyed Desmond's story in the first games but after that concluded then nope the "real" world parts have been less than pointless.

@GarGx1: "I enjoyed Desmond's story in the first games but after that concluded then nope the "real" world parts have been less than pointless."

I agree with this. Desmond was an integral part of the early stories, which were some of the best in gaming history IMHO. Minerva from the first civ speaking through Ezio to Desmond knowing that Desmond would be in the animus reliving part of Ezio's life in the future was brilliant. Ezio then spent the rest of his life wondering who Desmond was.

But yeah, the latest modern day characters don't have really the same impact.

That said, AC Origin's was a fantastic game. Great gameplay and graphics.

+1

It's just so jarring in Origins to play as Bayek and then one moment... you are taken out of the animus to do ... something I guess. I dunno, just a menial task and BAM you're back to playing bayek.

At least playing as Desmond proved a purpose.

It was a good and well written story that actually got quite complex. Desmond living Ezio's life while experiencing the later days of Altair's life was really clever and intermingled the modern world with the past in an intriguing and thoughtful way. It also gave reason to the Animus and the Knight Templars instead of whatever throw away side story they shoehorn in these days.

You already got it. They are called Watch Dogs 1 and 2.

On topic, nope. As others have said before, it was interesting in the beginning but after 3 it doesn't make any sense. And now, I don't even play AC anymore, got sick of it.

@pc_rocks: Haha, maybe you're right :P

I'm serious, though, need an assassination/stalking/stealth type game in the modern era that's not Splinter Cell. Maybe it's time for another Thief game, too, while we are at it.

That reminds me, I need to finish Watch Dogs 2; played it at release, got pretty far, stopped playing it though *shrug* wasn't a terrible game.

So far in Origins I only had one moment in the modern day story and I was like "so much reading, don't care", and went back to the Animus and that was end of that. It isn't that I am opposed to caring about the modern story, they just never given me much reason to.

They should've just made a modern day AC game with Desmond as protagonist for the whole game and end the main series with that game. At least their older fanbase could've gotten some closure. And later use the animus subject to make spin off games which quite frankly what today's AC games feel like(most of them don't even have assassins or the brotherhood anymore).

Today even ubisoft don't know what they want to do with the modern day story. They're just doing what they do best and that is milking.

Its one of the reasons I stopped playing AC games after ACIV. In the early days of AC1 and 2 I cared as I always thought Desmond would inherit the abilities of the people he went back in time to be and the player would be scaling the sides of skyscrapers and assassinating twats in high rise apartments. By ACIII and IV I thought the modern time parts couldn't get any worse and then Desmond died for some reason.

The modern day story was a vital point up until they killed Desmond, then no one cared anymore. It has become as pointless as the assassins creed name on the games.

It has to be said though, the two main devs/creators behind the assassins creed games left after 2, so it´s no wonder they have not been able to retain the magic from the first games.

Yes, or at least I did. However they've done nothing with the story for the last 4 or 5 games. It used to be the biggest and most important story element of the franchise for me. I loved Ezio's story, but the modern day story was always more interesting to me, and that seems to have been put on hold at this point.
