A lot of money went into R&D in stuff like making the weather exactly as it was in that day and that year. Also, they were planning to make like 7-10 Shenmue games, and they build it thinking that.
I remember reading they made a castle with hundreds of rooms and that you could enter any of them and examinate them, obviously they never put this into the game, but they spent money making it. I figure a lot of stuff like this got wasted as well.
My only gripe with Shenmue is that they spend so many money into making it a believable world, but they missed a key feature. Why do I want all of that if I can't use any services around me? I can't shop on street vendors, or go into restaurants and eat, why waste time in making them believable then?
Didn't G4 give this like worst game ever. Pathetic.BlackbondShenmue was amazing. G4, on the other hand, is probably the worst source for ANY information.
[QUOTE="joeychew"]Never.so when will we be expecting shemue 3???
Panzer_Zwei
Shenmue online is just around the corner, but its Korea only unfortunately.
Sega said that in 2-3 years they would re-evaluate their financial situation and decide whether to make shenmue 3.

They just won't make a sequel that requires previous playing of games that were financial holocausts and nobody played.
There will be a Ryu Ga Gotoku 7 before a Shenmue 3 comes out.
why no shemue 3...the story hasnt ended anyway...joeychewFor all the time and money Sega invested into the two Shenmue games and the critical acclaim it received...it just didin't hit well with gamers, possibly because it was so complicated. Making a third episode of the game may not be worth the investment if its sales remain low.

And low doesn't even begin to cut it, they were abyssmal. In fact they pushed Shenmue II out of desperation.
shenmue had terrible controls, me thinks
but it was still fun
mestizoman
i thought the controls were decent. not the best but playable. on e of my memorable and fav games out there.

bleh
Didn't G4 give this like worst game ever. Pathetic.Blackbondit was on their worst games of all times, then it was also on one of their best of all times list. I remember there was a lot of controversy over that.
I think Sega is making a Shenmue MMO.ni6htmare01Now that could have potential. If they can recoup their investment on the world of Shenmue by creating an online interactive world and then proceed to improve the control mechanincs, they might have a chance.
On a similar note (speaking of Sega), I sometimes wish they'd make a Jet Set Radio Online one of these days.
Sega could sell the rights to shenmue so they would make money...gamers get what they want , Sega gets money.turgore
Provided whoever that sell it to does a good job.
I'd feel much happier knowing Suzuki is working on it.
