All my favourite games have been single player experiences. Multiplayer gaming in RTS'sis very hardcore and you have to have practically a pHD in a particular game justto not get laughed at. Multiplayer in FPS's already excludes everyone who does not play it for about 5 hours a day. People - mostly Lemmings - like to put down a game because it doesn't have multiplayer.

If mulitplayer is so great why are practically all the best games on the horizon single player experiences?

That's false, not even Counter-Strike requires that much commitment, heck I was one of the best cloakers in Tribes and I didn't even play it that much :?

Same here, I really don't care about multiplayer gaming. It's just anovelty to me, something that I play for a little bit when I first get the game and then quickly forget about.

I do enjoy split-screen or LAN multiplayer but for me I always buy games based on the single player.

I don't give a darn about multiplayer gaming. It can be fun, but it's not a factor in my game buying decisions. I enjoy my single player experiences.

in this day in age, some type of multiplayer or leaderbord system is just unacceptable. For an FPS to not have mutiplayer this gen should be frowned upon. besides bioshock :D

Aside from a couple genres (fighting, racing, sports) I don't care for multiplayer at all.

It depends on the type of game. A fighting game should have online play- no exceptions in my opinion. Although The Darkness was clearly a single player game with tacked on multiplayer..there wasn't much effort put into it.

But there are games that are awesome but have no multiplayer.

I tend to like the campaigns/story mode best.

Multiplayer comes second. A great, immersive single-player experience comes first and foremost. Of course, games like BF1942 and UT are excluded from this.

What's wrong with multiplayer? It's not at all necessary, but when its done right it can add hundreds of hours to a game's lifetime.

antisocialism ftw!

seriously though, all of my favorite games have been multiplayer. even the best single player games (like re4) dont compare to a night of ssbm with some good friends imo.

i guess thats why im not that excited about bioshock. im sure it will be great, but without a solid multiplayer i cant ever see it as GOTY (although it may get it anyway)

multiplayer is fun as a side dish while single player is the main course.

the only mega-popular game that juggles the boundry of multiplayer and single player is halo.

The TC is acting like multiplayer is versus only. What about multiplayer co-op? That's what made GeoW and Crackdown so great. It's also what I'm looking forward to most in Halo 3.

Personally, I like all forms of multiplayer. It adds more value to the game. In fact, without it, Chromehounds would have been worse than a Dynasty Warriors game.

I mostly buy games for the single player aspect and a good Multiplayer mode is just gravy. If the MP is really good I tend to play it a lot once I finish the SP story. (Like I did with R6: Vegas) I do buy games purely for MP too osmetimes. Like Shadowrun, Battlefild 2, and Chromehounds and a good SP (if any) is just gravy.

I care very much for Multiplayer.

There have been some games with a good multiplayer concept. I think a lot of people aren't interested in EA's Skate, but I am intrigued by it. And the multiplayer aspect is extremely interesting; well from a skateboarder's perspective. I pray it turns out well. :P

I'm not too big on MP either, I can't stand it longer than few hours, I get my dose of MP action from demos already, I just can't understand people who play the same map in online shooters for hundreds of hours.

It does suite some games tho, I mean like America's Army that is pretty tactical, humans really provide you with a life like challenge. But I'm still a sp gamer first and foremost, I wanna be THE hero and play through a story, and I want the game to end at some point, sp makes for a more atmospheric and variable experience imo, mp tends to get very repetitive.

single player variable and mp repetitive? i think you've got this all backwards. single player will always be the same enemies and the same story (for the most part) no matter how many times you play it. multiplayer is always different because you never know what other people will do.

I'm a single-player person myself, and I don't mind if a game comes with or without multiplayer.
If the game does come with multiplayer though, I would probably give it a little go and see how it is. If it's good and enjoyable, I will most likely play it more until the enjoyment wears off.

No, but I don't rly care much about singleplayer games. I mean, I enjoy them, but I would pick multiplayer game that I will be playing for years over MGS, FF or kotor.Andinmostmpgamesyoucanplayagainstbotsbeforegoingonline,soyouwon'tsuck.

Multiplayer is a nice addition but I hate when it is the main point in review when it shouldn't be. Like in Conker: Live in Reloaded, most reviews complained about the multiplayer a lot like it was the main game. There was like six levels and six classes. Not a huge deal.

I felt the same along time ago but once you have Xbox Live its all about the multiplayer. If a game doesnt have a good multiplayer then I wont buy it i'll just rent it and beat it. Multiplayer gives the game replay value because its always different.

how can anyone not like multiplayer?

are you guys saying that you rather have nothing but single player? thats insanity.

even in the days when we didn't play online with the nes, genesis, etc everyone must have had days hanging with your friends just playing multiplayer, so why hate on it now?

now you have the option of having a friend come over and play halo or on a really bad day or on some weird time of day your friend can stay home and still play the same game with you.

I love rainbow six, and I finished the single player, but then what? well I can play the same missions over and over again, with people who use different strategies and just being able to communicate with someone and plan your next attack of a room with 3 or 4 tangos in it is so much better than telling the computer, go here go there.

I can't wait for bioshock, and i'll probably play it through about 2 times and then what? collect dust? even a cheesy multiplayer would have been fine by me, cause you don't have to play it if you don't want to.

in the end I don't understand how anyone rather play games solo all the time, just sounds so anti-social if you ask me.

im pretty much 90% single player. i get games for the single player first and foremost. if it has good MP then thats nice but if its crap or its not there then im not bothered.

the only game i play online for any length of time is Guild wars. even at that i solo most of the time. besides that its only the odd bout in CS or something like that.

I wasn't only referring to online shooters, but for e.g. to MMORPGs as well, which usually involve way way more grinding than sp RPGs. And yeah, in online shooters each match is slightly different, but there is hardly any backstory or motivation for the shooting, objectives might vary depending on the map or mode, but at least to me it gets quite repetitive without a story, surprises or scripted events. SP doesn't get repetitive since I usually only play through it once or twice, and it's (hopefully) filled with scripted events and plot twists. MP do last longer, but I'd rather take a good 15h sp experience than 50h of mp action. Not saying that mp suck, I personally just get more out of SP.

single player can have more varied objectives, but the gameplay itself cant be as varied because it is scripted. i guess i look for multiplayer because i want my games to last me more than 15 hours.

I'm not one of those crazy people who want 4 player online Co-op and online play for every single game(even games like Bioshock and Mass Effect). But online multiplayer can ad alot of replay value in shooters and fighters for example. So in short, yes I do care about it, but it isn't appropriate for every game...

Multiplayer can provide hundreds of hours of fun. Combine Decent long single player with tricky achievements and decent multiplayer? Hundreds of hours of fun.
