Someone told me that the US sales for ps4 and xbox one aren't as far apart like the worldwide sales. We all know PS4 is far ahead worldwide, but I went on vgchartz even though it's not a solid source, and the US sales for ps4 and x1 are only about 1.5 million apart.

It's likely a few million apart, there's really no way of knowing though unless you went back and tracked the last 44 months of NPD results. The real divide between the Xbox One and PS4 is in Europe and Japan, in North America, the UK and Australia they're very competitive with each other.

I've seen old charts on Neogaf when PS4 were only leading by a bit...

VGchartz is a joke

I don't think anyone knows for sure. I wish they wouldn't be so secretive about their numbers.

Xb1 and PS4 sales are competitive in the US, UK, and Australia as EndofAugust previously stated. Japan and Europe lean heavily towards the PS4, while South America (Aside from Argentina) lean heavily towards XB1.

VGchartz is a joke

Then do you have an idea of which source for international sales isn't a joke?

The only reason why VGChartz isn't considered a credible source is because technically, credible sources don't exist for 'sold through' figures. Hardware manufacturers don't actually know how many of any product is being sold to consumers, but they gauge overall sales based on demand by the retailers. In short term, retailers may over-purchase a product out of anticipation, leading to a false perception of sales, but in the long term, retailers would not continue demanding a product if it isn't selling through to consumers.

So if Sony has sold 60 mil ps4s to retailers from launch till now, they can roughly guess that perhaps 90% of that amount changed hands from retailers to consumers, but they don't know for sure. And without even going into detail about how NPD obtains their results, and let's say NPD's results are spot on.....Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo still do not know their international figures with certainty.

Very interesting considering the horrible launch for the X1, they really aren't that far apart. If I remember correctly, the X1 was more expensive than the PS4 at launch. Honestly, I'm impressed that they are so close considering all the factors. I guess the US really loves Xbox, I predict the scorpio and the lower priced S bundles to close the gap but the PS4 will still probably win this gen in the USA. Thank you for the info.

Why does it even matter? Anyone getting some kind of commission I never heard about? Or is this just more Sales War crap?

Sales in US and UK are closer than Cows would like to admit. And about to get a lot closer.

Just out of curiosity, are you planning to present a selective argument of comparison between PS4 and X1 sales figures in the US only? Because obviously, such a narrowing of sampling size works favourably for X1 fans. And if those figures are correct, then the US only makes up for 30% of the total PS4 sales to date, while it makes up for 55% of X1 sales. So it'll be a classical selective comparison between the X1's majority market versus Sony's (perhaps) largest single market but not majority market.

Why did the NPD stop showing sales numbers? It annoys me a bit.

Well it matters to some people who their competition is on multiplayer games.

I'd guess PS4 is ahead between 2-3 million. No source to back that up though. The X might make some ground up.

That's a surprising gap. And Microsoft could close it if they had any remotely interesting exclusives coming.

Alas.

Xbox might take back America with the worlds most powerful console called Xbox One X. Also only console to provide true 4k gaming.

It's never gonna catch up if that's why you're asking. The race has been over for a long time now, and XboneX is not gonna help them catch up.

If XboneS couldn't do it, no way XboneX will.

It most likely is going to outsell the PS4 pro.

The PS4 is probably at very least 6 million ahead in NA. XboneX with its checkerboard time travel projection 4k, just like the competition, will not change things.
