I know that the Wii U, PS4 and the Windows 8 are coming out soon. Why no news of a 360 successor?

-Software will be better than the 360's
-Exclusive games will be nonexistant
-Hardware will be better
-The hard drive will be proprietary
-Will use blu-ray
-XBL will still cost $60 a year
...im guessing

Exclusive games nonexistant? maybe not focused on, but they will be there. Game consoles aren't just about gaming anymore. I have a feeling next gen MS is going to push for the entertainment center approach.[QUOTE="KevinPlanet"]Exclusive games nonexistant? maybe not focused on, but they will be there. Tell that to Nintendo.
I heard it's gonna have "Avatar graphix" and that AMD will provide the hardware and that's about it.
Well, I assume it will be plugged into a socket, have a controller of some kind, disk drive, possibly and be able to play video games. Could be wrong, though.

No harddrive. Microsoft will charge you for their "cloud" servers. Oh, and every game will require an install to those servers. (joke)
Sony still owns the patent to the Blu-ray disk system (not the players but the technology behind the disks). Because of that, Sony get's a share of every Blu-ray disk sold. As long as that remains true, you will never see a Blu-ray player in a Microsoft console. (no joke)
I got a nice chuckle out of the ps4 "coming soon" blurb... If i had to guess the next xbox will further imbed itself as the hub of the entertainment in your living room... I see cross pc functionality and possibly the merging of windows and xbox as a platform... whatever it will be it will probably be awesome.

Em yes? Nintendo if anything proves his statement. No harddrive. Microsoft will charge you for their "cloud" servers. Oh, and every game will require an install to those servers. (joke)

Parts of Blu-Ray patents are own by HD-DVD supporter Toshiba i.e. link
The four leading companies for "BD4C Licensing Group" are
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation,
Thomson Licensing,
Toshiba Corporation,
Warner Bros.
Toshiba's HD-DVD support didn't stop Toshiba developing the technology behind Blu-Ray.
Btw, VC-1 in Blu-Ray is largely developed by Microsoft.
The BD4C license does not include patents solely relating to video or audio compression (including without limitation MPEG-2, AVC/H.264 or VC-1 video compression, or AC-3, Dolby Digital, Dolby True HD, DTS or DTS-HD audio compression) or content protection (including without limitation "CSS" (Content Scramble System), "CPPM" (Copyright Protection for Pre-recorded Media), "CPRM" (Copyright Protection for Recordable Media), "AACS" (Advanced Access Content System) or BD-ROM Mark or BD+ content protection systems) that may be applicable to BD products. Additionally, such BD Patents shall not include patents directed solely to communication protocols listed in the "References" section of the BD specifications (and HTTP specifically) unless such patents are essential for an application described in the BD-Live specification

AMD also said that the GPU it was working on for the Next Xbox was 10X more powerful than the 360 GPU.

AMD also said that the GPU it was working on for the Next Xbox was 10X more powerful than the 360 GPU.
That would be in 2 TFLOPs range e.g. Radeon HD 5870/6870 levels.
----
At the same workloads, compute shaders (CS)is more efficient than the traditional pixel shaders (PS).
DX11 CS vs DX10.1 pixel shader (PS)
Unlike Crysis 2 DX11, BF3 uses DX11 CS for it's deferred rendering. It's an uncharted territory for PC gaming i.e. closer to console style optimisations with the modern GPU designs.
Also, AMD's statement also gives us some hints on non-DX10 limited results ie. using custom extensions on DX10.1 Radeon HDs and maybe applicable on Wii U.
PS; Radeon HD DX10.x hardware can run DX11 CS4.x with DX11 middleware. Wii U's RV7x0 GPU includes Fetch-4 hardware feature.
