Does anyone still think GTA4 deserved a 10.0?

So are you still playing GTA4 like crazy? Because to me, that's what a 10.0 game is. LOOOONG lasting gameplay. A game so fun that you keep playing, and playing.

IMO, no, it didn't deserve a 10.0. I think I actually played Vice City and San Andreas for a longer period than GTA4. :|

It deserved a 10 on the HYPE-O-Metre.

Good work Rockstar. Now can you work on your games abit more than your Hype.

the first couple of hours of the game made me think it was worth a 10, but then it got boring and felt it didnt deserve the 10. too repetitive, i enjoyed san andreas way more. i will go back when the downloadable content becomes available, but for know there are other games im having a good time with

No, I think it's totally overrated, and I didn't like it. I'll pick it up in 4 years though.

It's repetitive, and the controls can be annoying. Overall, I like it though. I'd give ita 9.3.

It just wasnt the same GTA I grew to love. It was too serious, mellow dramatic, fairly repetitive, not enough variety in the environments, and the humor just wasnt there.

I just wanted the same ol creative, action packed, at times goofy GTA that I loved for so many years. Most characters were stereotypical "tough guys", and none were as creative as they had been in the past.

EDIT: And just for the record, I did indeed enjoy the game. It was still a good game... but I think about half way through I was kinda figuring out that the game peeked. I was definitly on a "hype high" and everything about the game was "Oooh" and "Aaah" when in reality I was just wanting to be wowed by it. The previous GTA games have been easily among my favorite games of all time... heck San Andreas practically kept me gaming. But oh well, maybe next time Rockstar.

Same here. I loved Vice City. I could play that for hours. Maybe my taste changed over time, but GTA is meh to me. It made the technical jumps I expected it to make considering it moved from last gen hardware to current hardware, but it lost alot of the fun factor... or beating up virtual hookers after having virtual sex with them lost its appeal after I left my teens.

Though as exciting this game can be at times, to me it was just another GTA with gorgious graphics and it got old real quick. I have not played in a few months, so maybe I'll get back into it, but definately not worth a 10 in my book.

You should've put "Are you kidding me!? 11/10!!!" for a certain someone here. :P

Personally, no. Felt more like a 9.0 to me. It does what it does very well (At least against sandbox standards anyhow) minus friends, framrates, and the repetitive missions. All my other gripes are traced to it being a more realistic Grand Theft Auto and since they're inherent flaws, it can't be marked down for them.

If the whole game was of the quality of Broker, I'd have given it a 10. But once you get to the second safehouse, everything falls apart. If you actually finish the story (which some people haven't) you realise that they took out most of the activities from prior GTAs and all you have left is a very, very empty sandbox; one in which it isn't that fun to kill random cops and pedestrians anymore.

the lack of tommy vercetti killed this game for me before it even came out. i hyped it AA and i recieved imo an AAE title. it deserved maybe an 8.9 probably an 8.7. i am having way more fun with vice city than i ever did with this game. its a definite must buy though for the few who still haven't bought it.

No way.

Not enough replayablility to justify that score. It's more of a 9.0-9.5 game.

Yes.

I've sunk over 60 hours into the game so far (obviously extending well beyond the story) and I don't see myself stopping any time soon.

Tommy Vercetti was the man. Best GTA character in my opinion (dont let my name fool you, lol). Anyway, Vice City was awesome, the city was pretty diverse, the landscape was beautiful, the colors were bright, the music was perfectly fitting, the characters were awesome... they just pretty much nailed it.

San Andreas was awesome too, of course. I just miss the good ol days. Hopefully the next GTA will return to Vice City. I would love that. I would love it even more of the series caught back up with Tommy.

I think it's the best game for you and your tastes but to be completely honest, I had more fun playing Crackdown and Saints Row than I did GTA4. I also loved Mercenaries.

Not to say GTA4 was a bad game, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

In a bunch of ways, crackdown actually is better. Actually has a smooth framerate. Which is one thing I wonder. Why does everybody go on about mercenaries 2 framerate, while gta4 has an absolute terrible framerate? Rarely ever does 30fps, and usually stays at the low 20s.

Maybe when the pc version comes out, and IF I play this game again, I'll give it another chance.

Though, the driving controls were pathetic this time around. Trying to feel more real? It wasn't real, or close to it. It was just sluggish. When you go fast in gran turismo, theres ways to make good turns. Not in this game. Thats why I loved san andreas, its driving felt very, very good.

Story wasn't that great this time around either.

I have no problems driving through town fast or taking corners at a decent speed..But to honest, you really shouldn't be able to drive around a town like NYC at top speed any way.

truthfully, ive never been left feeling so empty after beating a game, but maybe thats because i was relating nikos story back to my own lifes difficulties, it was a great game, and yes it did deserve a 10 for progressing the sand box gaming genre

Nah, it's a great game with a good story and it lasts for a pretty long time. It gets repetitive at times and the cover system isn't the best, weapon variation is slim, the AI is flippin' stupid, there are way too many cops, after the bank heist you have way too much money to even care about it anymore, difficulty is frustatingly uneven and for some of the most simple missions you have to retry it 10 times before you succeed, and to be honest when you're inside or in a cutscene the game is pretty f*****g ugly.

Other than that, it was the first GTA game I liked, I'd give it an 8.9.

I NEVER thought for one second while playing the game that it was a 10. I mean its a great game, 9.0 for sure, but the only game I have felt like "this is a 10 no question" this gen is MGS4.

Its framerate isn't great, true enough, but that's the price of quality. GTA IV is one of the best looking games this generation, not because of technical marvels (although it's no slouch in that department) but because of the smaller details. I've never seen a more meticulously detailed city environment in any game I've ever played. It captures the look and feel of New York like no other game has ever done or even come close to in my opinion.

If you can't make turns at a decent speed in this game, then you're doing it wrong. Perhaps this is just my experience playing simulation racers (IE dozens of hours of Forza 2) talking but once I got used to the new system, I started to love it. No, it's not easy to whip an SUV around corners like it was in San Andreas and no, every car doesn't handle like it was built by Ferrari, but that's one of the reasons why I love this game, each car has its own individual handling quirks and for me, part of the fun was figuring out these quirks in each of the many vehicles in the game.

Story wasn't that great this time around either.

I thought this was one of the better stories in the series (it's either this or San Andreas) but I've never felt like I was interacting with a real character like I have with Niko. The choices I made felt like they had real weight, and I couldn't help but feel empathy for Niko and his troubled past and how he wrestled with his own personal demons for many years before the events of the game.

hazuki

My responses in red (in case it wasn't glaringly obvious).

I hate this new scoring system. Having intervales of .5 is the most idiotic/unbalanced thing to do for a credible scoring system. If it was still .1's I think it would of gotten a 9.8 but they have to round it to 10. I love the game but having it a 10 makes it look TOO good.

It's a 9.0 at best for me. I got the game the day it came out and then finished it by mid May. I then tried the side missions but they were so incredibly repetitive that I started to regret purchasing the game. Still, I go back every once in a while to mess with the cheats and wreak havoc. Saved phone codes FTW!
