This year they have put out new ip's which have ended up costing them money. They're now going through some troubling times with the downturn of the economy (like many others). At least they tried to bring something new to the table when they could have got by with just the usual yearly installments.

Without naming names, I think EA deserves our respect and certain other companies deserve less for they are the ones who get the big money out of yearly re-hashing.

I don't see how the heck Dead Space failed in sales, the game is awesome. Were there no advertisements or something? Maybe with DS2 they'll be back in the green.

I agree with this, Dead Space is an awesome game. I'm yet to buy Mirror's Edge, but judging by the demo, it's also a great game.

Dead Space great ?!

Anyone who thinks that ever played games like System Shock II, AvP, Doom III, Prey ?!

My thoughts exactly - it was a solid shooter, but didn't do enough to make it stand out from every other sci-fi horror shooter ever made.

Yet I bet it sold really really well and made the company a big return.

NFS games generally do really well.

Its worrying though, what message is this sending the company when its great new games sell badly and its re hashed rubbish sells millions.

As long as they produce good games, they'll have my respect.

I do agree that Ubisoft has become a shovelware company this generation, minus a few good games.

No, EA doesn't deserve a bit of our respect. Look what they did to the SimCity series... ruined. Look what they did to the Need for Speed series... ruined. From what I have read, they also held back Spore too. The only thing EA does right is sports games and they should stick to them.

You're actually griping about SimCity and Spore? NFS I can kind of understand but SimCity was boring and Spore looks cool but I just can't see myself playing it. I know these are my opinions and I do respect yours but I'll also respectfully disagree as well. After making Army of Two, Dead Space and Mirror's Edge, EA has earned respect. I hope they continue this trend. Even the LOTR RTS for Xbox 360 was pretty good, I had fun with it although I haven't had the time to beat it yet.

Yeah after 08 they have my respect again, BF:BC, Burnout: Paradise, Dead Space, Skate, Mirrors Edge (not the best game but the right idea) and Boom Blox are all great games that prove their beyond just releasing the same sport titles year after year.

In other words EA screwed over PC fans (although they still did get Dead Space and Mirrors Edge) and and instead gave all the glory to console gamers.

Yes, EA has done some great titles over the past year or two. But they still have a ton of shovelware and they still run their own sports division that milks its consumers on a yearly basis. Either they provide me something worthwhile to buy or they don't. I'm sure not going to feel sorry for them.

absolutely yes. not only the gave us new great ips but also the ports from consoles were very good and optimized. if ea drops the drm it will be even better but if you buy ea games from steam you dont have to worry about it at all.

Yes, definately. Ubisoft can shove it though. They are the bane of the industry. BTW Battlefield Heroes is a free game from EA coming this year. More respect +.

They're certainly not as bad as they used to be, but I'll wait until we see what happens to the big BioWare/Pandemic titles (ie Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, Saboteur) before saying EA has righted the ship.

I respect their decision to create new IP's unfortunately EA did it at the worst possible time. I hope their losses wont deter them to go back to Live and Madden.

EA has been much better, IMO, and as long as they continue to support new IPs like Dead Space and Mirrors Edge, I think that they do. I only look down on publishers/developers when they neuter creativity.

As long as they maintain the lock on the NFL license, I will never play another Madden game, but it's encouraging to see that they allowed Criterion to release amazing free DLC for an entire year. And Dead Space was awesome, It didn't have an original bone in it's body, but it was a solid game with great graphics, sound and controls. I just started Mirrors Edge so I really don't have an opinion on it, but I'm glad they at least tried something different.

Looking at how they handled the purchase of Criterion, It gives me hope that they will do the same with Bioware and let them do their own thing, which is crucial given how much I love Mass effect.

EA and respect in the same sentence.. LOL, they deserve anything but. Where to start? They have ruined far too many ip's to count, intrusive malware in their games, intrusive adware in their games (2142), lame customer support, milks customers over and over and lets not forget them outright lying about drm on their games multiple times.

They most definetely deserve our respect now. They've stemmed the flow of crappy sequels pouring out in a ****storm and are releasing new IPs and taking great new steps everywhere. I kinda wish they did keep putting out yearly re-hashes though BUT kept making good games. That'd give them enough money to stay afloat and to also support the good games and new IPs. It's a win-win-win situation there. Casuals, Core and EA all gain from it.

I think they do

There a great publisher and an up an coming developer there not the EA of last gen that just spewed out LOTR,NFS and Sports sequels like clockwork. If anything Activision is this gens EA with very little innovation and just releasing sequels to popular franchises every year.

if they make good games then i will respect them. EA does release some bad games that are just remakes with nothing new. they do make some good games like skate that is coming out Thursday. hopefully that will be a good game, i enjoyed the demo i just hope that the game doesn't become like undercover where there were framerate issues.
