My friends, having played this with a control pad (FF: Realm Reborn) immense surprise. It is so well designed, so intuitive, that even with dozens and dozens of skills, it feels almost as good as a mouth and keyboard.

Does this game finally prove, once and for all, complicated control schemes MMO's use, can work fully and proficiently on a console?

Did titles that use a similar scheme like Dragon Age, need to be dumbed down? Was Bioware just showing a lack of confidence in the intelligence of console gamers while Square Enix gave them credit as, not stupid?

No... it proves that slow lite version can work. this coming from someone that plays FFXIV on on PC and VITA (through PS4 remote play).

Final Fantasy FVIX is slow and easy .... compared to other standard MMOs.... and there are still pleanty of shortcomings to using a controller (u.i and communications).

Like most PC genres including FPS games.... a controller is a mediocre substitute at best.

It proves that just like all other things consoles copy from PC (fps. RTS.mmo.Sim wrpg.onlineplay. vr.gfx.), its just a shoddy imitation.

@MBirdy88: I play on ps4, got through Titan EX just fine with my controller. And I type with a keyboard and use mumble when I need to. I don't think it's a lite version. The only bad thing about the ps4 version is cycling through hotbars, and that isn't enough to call it "lite"

oh so with heavy use of third parties (e.g more than one control scheme and a computer nearby with mumble) is ... satisfactory?

FFXIV is lite though.... its that MMO I play for the epicness of FF ... but its a pretty damn easy game compared to most others.... its slow and limited... thanks to a focus on controller schemes.

As suspected, pc elitists enter the thread and make up nonsense.

World Of Warcraft is a casual MMO. For casuals. Children play it. Children not even in the double digits. It's far easier than Realm Reborn.

Realm Reborn appears to be the only decent final fantasy game made.

One account, yes.

Yes, I am playing it on PS4 right now. I have the collectors edition for both PC and PS4. It is MUCH better on the PS4. Only MMO I prefer on the big screen and a controller... it TRULY feels good, and it is the ONLY PS4 game I know that properly uses the otherwise gimmicky touch pad.

On PC I give the game a 7/10 on PS4 I give the game a 9 or maybe even a 10. One of the best MMO's I have played, and I have played a lot.

I don't know if you remember EQOA (EverQuest Online Adventures) for PS2. It had its faults, but it was the first time I can remember playing an MMO on a console and having a lot of fun. Why it took so long from something like that to getting something like FFXIV baffles me, honestly.

The 2.5 second GCD is due to the console version, without that it'd be a much better MMO. Not that it's bad, but there's room for improvement.

you sound very biased.... In terms of required reflexes and variety.. it IS by far one of the easier MMO's by todays standards. its designed with a controller in mind and shows... yet the average player so so bad people can't even pug things like Garduda EX ... even though its mechanics are an absolute joke and every single fight is completely predictable... and you have ages to dodge things.

Im not saying its a bad thing.... but its the truth... its slow, its easy compared to the competition... because of the enphasis on making it "ok" with controllers.

Giving the PC version a 7/10 because you prefer being on a couch with a gimped control scheme is a joke.

Wildstar would never work for example... sure 8 moves... but that pace and precision... not on a controller.

Like most PC genres including FPS games.... a controller is a mediocre substitute at best.

I would not say FFXIV is easy in the end game content.

At least not the higher tier Coil runs which take a lot of team work and knowledge of the mechanics.

I said easy compared... I can't stress enough, the fights can be hard.... but they are not hard or complex compared to the competition... and the required flexes are a ton lower.... and its all more limited with a controller. everything balanced around a 2.5 sec cooldown is a large part of that.

I'm not saying the game is simple... I havnt done all of coil... but mostly because im currently casual on it and playing wildstar..... but weverything about wildstar has been alot harder... even leveling mobs on occasion... simply because its aimed at fast paced precision... and its boss enouncters are not 100% scripted.

What competition are you talking about?

Most other MMOs are about gear and lvl.

If you are a high enough lvl and have good enough gear then in most MMOs you are ok.

You bring up Wild Star which is a brand new MMO but I did not really find that any more challenging than the other thousands of MMORPGs that are already out there.

Sure it doesn't offer a simplified control scheme like with FF14....so what?

.... everything you said then was so generic? I don't think you thought it through....

"If you are high enough lvl and gear your ok" .... "most other MMOs" .... yet this applies to FFXIV more than any other MMO I've ever played... infact they make content redundant with every new content patch and allow people to grind tokens for near up to date gear instead of doing the actual challenges.... much earlier than any other MMO I have ever seen do this.... it doesn't make sense anyway because we are clearly on about end-game here... the only time where skill actually comes into play...

What have you done in Wildstar? if you can't see a difference in it then I don't know what to say to you..... I also brought up World of Warcraft... hell I could bring up rift and even SwTOR and Lord of the Rings if you want.... I can't think of a single encounter in FF that matches the best of these games... the controls... the way the game plays... is so restrictive.

so what? well its the point..... a more shallow casual mmo works on consoles fine,.... just like how FPS got watered down.... but as I've said... restrictive and limited.

for the record, I like and play FFXIV ... I have 6 months sub aswell. just pointing out the elephant in the room... is a casual MMO.... but its audiance thinks Titan EX is hard which speaks volumes... can't dodge things with that level of delay on attacks and a fixed pattern.... yeesh....

I have played all the MMORPGs you mentioned.

None of them feel more challenging than what most MMORPGs offer.

Also what class do you play as in FF14?

Some classes are a lot easier to play as depending on the fight.

I would say playing as a healer is probably one of the most challenging classes.

When playing as a White Mage I am not only relied upon for keeping everyone alive but I have to dodge all the same stuff while also using debuffs on the boss and sometimes helping with dps.

It is probably the class that requires the most in multitasking.

I also wouldn't say all the reaction times are slow.

For example the Plumes in Titan Ex are pretty fast on exploding.

If you don't move out of the way the moment they pop up then you will most likely get hit and if you move out prematurely then you will most likely carry a trail which will get someone else killed.

And I don't think most people find Titan EX hard it's more of a check to see if people can multitask and if they don't lag.

Something hard was like Turn 5 Coil which took months before any group was able to actually beat it.

Also in fights like Turn 5 Coil there is a certain part of the phase with mini twisters which requires the player to be constantly moving around while never stepping in the same spot and still having to keep up with what's going on in the battle.

Most of the mistakes made in the such fights ends up in automatic death of the player and the party wiping.

With most of the harder end game fights communication and good teamwork is required

What I said about gear and lvl was meant for just about every MMORPG, I wasn't trying to exclude FFXIV from that list.

And it was known quite early on that FF14 is all about end game content.

The other content is just for building up the story and teaching players the mechanics of their character classes.

For just about any MMORPG it all boils down to knowing the boss mechanics and once you defeat it multiple times it feels a lot easier.

@MBirdy88: the fact that I can plug in a keyboard and mouse and use PC controls is satisfactory. I don't know how you can spin that to make that a bad thing. More control schemes is always a great thing. And if I wanted to, I could party up with my teammates and use my headset so I don't have to use my laptop or ipad on mumble.

White Mage, Bard, Dragoon. and as a White Mage... its nowhere near as hard as fights on my Priest on WoW was....

oh and.... Turn 5's mechanic you mentioned... was broken.... even Square admitted that.... was fixed down the line, I imagine that was a big factor... but it certainly didn't take months for world first.

MMO's have worked on consoles since FFXI. A keyboard is essential for communication and macros though

I have played just about every MMO known to mankind.... those saying FFXIV is one of the easier ones hasn't played long or have not played at all. It is a very good game. Like I said before... better on PS4 than PC.

you sound very biased....

Well damn... this took off..

Anyway though. I have a lvl 90 lock on WoW waiting for another expansion... played to endgame on Conan, Star Wars, Rift, Terra.. bla bla bla... just different experience is all. Whether some people think it is easier or not is irrelevant. I find it to be about the same as a countless number of other titles with MUCH better storytelling, writing, and lore.... Not to mention the awesome fact you can level each and every class and ability (which I hate in most games, but love in this one... maybe because of the immense amount of time you have to spend to make it worth the time... I don't know.) I just happen to like how the controller works for the game.... I DON'T feel as though some MMO's would work with a controller, but I sure as hell want to see them try. I pretty much ONLY played this type of game on PC to this point... I lost interest with it VERY fast on PC... for whatever reason, I picked it up for the PS4 and I have loved it. How is that bias? I have a PC, PS4, WiiU, and X1.... because I have a personal preference and an opinion that differs from someone on the internet I am bias? lol.... no. I am about the least bias person you could ever meet when it comes to playing games in different formats and platforms.

It's the same game so why would you like it on PS4 more than PC?

PC has better visuals and frame rate (if you have the hardware) and the PC also allows you to play with a controller.

Like the other guy said all the games you mention are just different experiences.

I found all the ones you mentioned to be of the same difficulty.

I played a Priest in WoW also and didn't really find it anymore difficult than a White Mage in FF14.

BTW it did take at least a month or two for the first party to beat Coil T5.

And I don't remember it being broken.

It was just nerfed later on.

As others have said, this was proven long ago with FFXI, and maybe even EQ before that.
