does it feel right playing JRPG on a non-sony console?

Considering the genre got its start on Nintendo and SEGA consoles, I wouldn't be surprised if many people felt right playing them on a non-Sony console.

But then again, most FFVII fans would have you believe that the genre only started on the PS with FFVII.

It feels ok because they have all been mediocre or poor. Hopefully White Night Chronicles and Versus XIII can bring us out of the jrpg ghetto.

PS1 was the best for JRPG's, but only by a very small margin compared to SNES.

Why would it feel any different? JRPGs were on SEGA and Nintendo consoles prior to Playstation. Why would moving to a differently branded platform change the experience? Especially considering that JRPGs really don't vary much.

JRPG's existed before Sony consoles were even thought of, though I started playing them on PS1. It doesn't feel any different.

Spending time cleaning up my gaming area and going through my PS/PS2 collections and reliving a bunch of great memories, I'd agree. They gave up on the exact thing that made them fantastic... a cheap gaming console for the gamers that is solely for gaming.

Given i like 360 controller 100x more than the PS3 one, that i think is the most akward to use controller ever created, of course it feels right, in fact i would buy the 360 version just to play with the 360 pad

It wont feel so weird if the 360 gets some good JRPG's instead of Losy Odyssey and then a bunch of mediocre crap.

Cant wait to give Star Ocean a try.

Not really... although I did play majority of jrpgs (Final Fantasy ones, Tales of ones, Star Ocean etc.) on the Sony Play Station brand... playing those franchises on a xbox 360 doesn't really affect anything...

Tales was definatly far from mediocre crap

Also even IU and Blue Dragon were fun and big games, i had tons of gameplay with them also, they may be mediocre in some aspects, but are an asset to 360 than "mediocre crap"

in fact i wasn't, but i played sonic and mario though, the thing is graphics is very important factor that make an RPG appealling to me, the only thing that i can remember when i saw these old RPGs are the small cartoony unidetifiable objects or should i say charcters, i dun they they are bad but the true and the best JRPG era started on PS one and continue to florish on PS2.

two facts need to be mentioned here:

1-they are called JRPG so, i suppose they must be on a "made in japan" console.

2-people are willing to play JRPG on PS3 , all the JRPG realeased on X360 didn't sell that well despite the large user base ( LO is the only that performed well),give the PS3 a good non-released b4 JRPG(so forget about doin hat namco did with eternal sonata) and the game will sell like crazy.

the people are still attached to sony brand regarding JRPG, about DS dun ever compare a game made for PS3 or X360 to game made for that DS, you can see the difference so there is no way old JRPG can be put on the PS3 so the companies put them on DS being the nearest to the old consoles in terms of graphics, and if that proves anything then it proves the old JRPG are for sub-adult type gamers (no offence to anybody).

I played JRPGs on computer first (final fantasy - I had N64). I don't mind playing other JRPGs on different systems, but I'd prefer to play Final Fantasy games on a Playstation system. It just doesn't seem right to me on a non playstation system for some reason. At the same time, I'd rather play Grandia on Saturn for some strange reason.

As a matter of fact yes. I was playing them long before they were on playstation, and the SNES's Chrono Trigger is still the JRPG king.

Here is another two facts

1. They are call Japanese RPG's, so as RPGs they can be played on any system, Japan made or not

2. Star Ocean 4 sold as much as WKC day one, the only PS3 exclusive JRPG, when 360 has only 1/3 the install base in Japan and Lost Odyssey has done 850.000+ sold

I guess 360 is my RPG and JRPG machine by miles, especially after the dissapointment i had with both WKC and Demon Soul that for me are some of the lowest quality JRPG's this generation, and reviews suggest so too

I like JRPGs on any system really, but if given the choice of the same game on all the consoles I'd pick it for the Sony console. I just like the controller a little better is all. It just seems more suited for an RPG than the 360 or Wii controller in my opinion. Again though, I'll play a JRPG on any console and not feel weird about it. Just comes down to preference for me.
