Does it hurt MS that they don't do any developing of their own?

For essentially a software company I am amazed at how little it devotes to first party games, bar a few exceptions like Halo. MS seems to purchase game studios and lease second party studios rather than set up proper internal teams created within the company. Of course even this "buying" of developers has been reversed recently with it letting go of some big names.

Microsft Games is now Microsoft Game Studios. Like sony they buy companies and merge them into there corp but keep the brand names and companies external to get wider appeal, sony developers very few inhouse projects off there own back.

You just explained MSGS best trait. When MS tried making games in the mid 90s they wern't good at all they must have figured out they have enough to just buy and lease studios to make great games and they publish them and it been working great this current generation. Why is this wrong? As for letting some big names go, well that is buisness and it doesnt matter who u are (example) if you make 3 crappy games in a row (example) you are going to get fired.

I think MS focuses more on applications. This is why Xbox Live is so superior.

When Xbox was originally announced alot of people thought a publisher couldn't compete with Sony and Nintendo, yet here they are still. More exclusive development teams would have done them well and letting Bizarre and Bungie go solo wasn't the best idea even if they hold the rights to Halo and Project Gotham. With endless funds I am surprised MS didn't try to buy out Bioware or Vivendi, but with a steady hold on the number two spot atm I think they are content.

Maybe they don't have development talent. Its better to publish good games then have a crap team plunk out bad ones. My music management teachsaid the best thing ever about collaborations: "Its better to own 30% of a hit than 100% of a flop." At the end of the day, music fans don't care if you had a guest musician on the song as long as the song turned out good. I think gamers are like that also.

It's good for us, they seem to be picking alot of good games to publish so it doesn't matter to me.

I don't know, but it's not hurting them. However, if you look at Sony too, there isn't much in-game development. Insomniac and Konami and Square Enix all third-party although they act like a first party devs.

Not true, bucko.

Those games weren't to bright, and certainly not perfect. But I don't need to argue, they published much more to prove you wrong, like :

BUZZ ripoff : Scene it

and

FUZION FRENZY 2.

What are you talking about, SONY has WAY more going on 1st party than M$!

Not too mention Insomniac is SECOND PARTY, and the games they make FOR SONY are SONY's.

Also, Sony does own a stake in SE, so that may influence some of SE's decision's.

As far as 1st Party stuff, SONY makes A LOT more than you'd think.

Meanwhile, M$ just lost Bioware and Bungie, not mention others in recent news.

Although Both companies buy out developers and such.

SONY has by far WAY MORE 1st party teams cranking out games for them.

Which is amusing you can't surf the net on the 360, but you can on the "ONLY OTHER TWO" System's the 360 is competng with.

Why?

Perhaps people will DownLoad TV/Movie content more for 360 if they can't use YouTUBE, and various other sites etc on their TV's....

Okay, let me rephrase. Bioware, a M$ second party, is now OWNED by multiplatform company extraordinaire, EA. What this means is we won't be seeing BIOWARE make games exclusively for only the PC/Xbox market like they did last gen. Sure, they got a DS game coming, but this is now one less avenue M$ can lean on for future exclusive IP's.

That isn't the only company either, M$ just lost a PC/XBLA RTS developer too...and M$ didn't have a large talent pool to begin with.

No because they buy all the big named games from the biggest 3rd party devs. They buy their way to success...but still got rolled by the Wii.

Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assasins Creed, Orange Box (not delayed), COD4...do I really care who in the blue hell developes these games? If anything anybody has to say can take away this lineup from me, than I'll gladly take your words into consideration. Until then...the 360 has the best lineup available, don't waste my time.
