I bought a 9600GT 1GB in 2009, it was a mid-end card. I feel like having wasted money, because there are games that run badly My CPU is not bad, quadcore Phenom 955 3.2 Ghz. My point is that if you are serious with Pc gaming , then I think that mid-end cards just won't cut it and you're better off gaming on console. Please read the post before bashing it.

PC gaming is whatever you want it to be, not everyone wants to play games on high. If you want the best graphics then obviously a mid range card isn't for you but if you just want to play games on PC and enjoy its exclusives then a mid range card is fine.

I've been PC gaming with 8800 recently... And now, with GTX550, which exactly isn't all that good either. 8800 is enough to have better graphics and performances than consoles already. Especially since this gen is so dragged now,

I use an AMD 6850. would that be considered a high end card? With a Quad Core AMD processor I can play TW2 on MAX 50-60 fps without uber sampling for example. It depends on your view on a "mid" card. For example to PC elitists who run Dual AMD 6950s and what not my AMD 6850 is considered a mid card, but to people like me who want to do PC gaming on a budget yet still retain good performance and graphics, the 6850 would be considered a "high end" card.

Sorry, but I don't think I'd be better off substituting the library of PC games for the library of console games.

Also, if you aren't liking the performance from that card. You can easily buy a new graphics card, which is cheaper than a console, and increase your performance by folds more than that card and a console.

I've been gaming with a 4870 for over 3 years with no problem it run all my games very well at 1080p games looks much better then on my ps3 and still gets higher frame rates. The 9600gt is the equivalent of a lower end gaming gpu card nowadays(its a bit weaker then the 8800gt which was highend when it came out at the end of 2007) and even when you bought it wasn't considered midrange. right now midrange gpu's have more then enough power needed to leave consoles in the dust when it comes to running games they will look better and do so while running at much higher resolutions and framerates with alot of AA and AF consoles games tend to lack.

9600gt was low end in 2009. Mid range at that time period was the GTS 250 or a AMD 4850. 9600gt was low end in 2009. 9600 gt was a mid range card from 2008 with cards such as the 9600 gso, 9800 gt and 9800 gtx+, gtx 260, gtx 275, etc above it in performance. I have a 9600 gso in my backup and it performs like a champ on a pentium 4, windows XP and 17 inch 1280x720 monitor.

Let me put some perspective on the 9600 gt. It was slower then a 8800 gt. Seems like you mad a bad buy even years back TC and now are regretting it. Lets not go off the deepend if you didn't know what you were buying then. You think you wasted money? Probably but there are plently of people who are still rocking mid range card rigs and play games with ease.

It's pretty impressive what a 9600GT is capable of. My roomate had his from early 2008 until late 2011. It kept him pretty well satisfied with just about anything he played at 1600 x 900.

PC gaming accommodates a wide range of systems and configurations as well all know.

Next time oyu upgrade buy a higher end card that will last you longer. Paying $250 for a higher end card tha will last ~4-5 years is better than buying 2 low end card within the same time frame, plus you'll get better performance with the higher end card

Rockstar games are badly optimised and its not like the console versions of those games are shining of examples of performance and graphics by console standards far from it.

Gaming with a mid-end card is fine, but I wouldn't consider a 9600GT a mid-end card. You can get a good deal on some mid-range AMD cards.

Some games are badly optimized on PC.

Even with great hardware, they will run like schit.

In fact it's often better to have an older card because all the latest drivers are out and the devs have experience working with them.

Don't take System Wars as fact, because alot of people make claims that aren't true.

"oh you just slap this $90 card in and play 80x better"

No, that's not true, that's just PC fanboy crap.

I went from PC to 360 in 2008, and I'm very happy with how games look and play in general.

It's definitely weaker hardware but overall a more consistently good result for me.

I aimed a little higher with my mid-range back in 2009. I went for an HD5770 which was fine for 1440x900 in most games and 1080p in some games. Once I went totally 1080p last year, it was time for a beefier video card.

I agree, I also have that card and you often have to play at medium-low settings to get at least 30 fps. I won't lower the resolution because on Pc it looks ugly not to play at your monitor resolution. I have a 22" monitor and 1280x720 looks ugly, while consoles handle resolution better thanks to the upscaler.

Thats why its silly that people complain and/or boast about very minor graphical differances in 360/PS3/PC versions of the same game.

Sometimes the PS3 version looks better, sometimes the 360 version looks better, and not all PC's are created equal.

Its the games that matter most.

a 9600gt was a mid card like in 2004, in 2009 was a low end card, check tomshardware.com for more info on card and best places to buy, i personally recommend newegg.com

yes it worth it, you'll get better graphics than consoles and will probably be able to run anything in high just with low or no anti aliasing or anisotropic low.

The 9600gt was a mid-end card............when it was released..............about 4 years ago. It's still much better than what a console can do but it's no longer a mid-end card. My 8800gt is still kicking though and plays games at much higher settings than consoles.

If your PC hardware can do 1080 in every game then you are getting better results than a console.

If not, then a console would give you better results.

Look at the screen resolution on some of the games you play.

If it's lower than 1920x1080 then a console would have gotten a better picture.

9600 is a budget gaming card. But luckily for you, PC gaming is awesome because it can be tailor-made for whatever your needs and wants (and also according to your wallet). And it is upgradeable.

I play at 1680x1050 on one of my older PC builds with a GTX 275......certainly that card is not going to be outdone by a console. Just because someone doesn't game at 1080P doesn't mean consoles is better when consoles can barely handle 720P and sometimes even lower with 0-2xaa.
