Does it Matter (to you) if a Game's Gamespot Review Score "Flops"

Honestly.....it's fun for fanboys to run around wildly claiming "ownage" on the hype thread or whatever....but does it really matter.

I mean so what that Zelda TP got an 8.8 and not AAA like it was hyped.

Or Resistance getting an 8.6 instead of AAA

Does the games value seriously diminish because of the review score? Because in the end, you have to form your own opinions about anything, and that's truly the only opinion that (should) matters

Really? It means nothing. But there's a certain kind of satisfaction to be had watching a fanboy who previously trolled the forum for months hyping a game as the Second Coming backtrack when the reviews are much less flattering.

You just explained it bro. Perfectly... Nailed it in the head.

Anyway doesn't matter to me at all I only recently looked at reviews and now I just view them to see if I have a good taste in games according to GS.

Except I don't know what kind of game it is before I buy it. And those reviews give me an idea of how good they are with explanations so I can make a better choice of whether the game will be good for me.

An 8.6 or 8.8 is a great score. As long as the content in the game appeals to you scores shouldn't greatly affect your opinion of it unless the game scores less than a 5.0.

I only like it when sheep gets own. I love the Wii, but for some reason sheep think every Nintendo game is AAA.

It matters in System Wars, but when I go to the store to buy a game....I don't think about what some fanboy told me.

It only means something on SW, meaning it's absolutely frivolous and insignificant.

It doesn't bother me in the sense that when I've made up my mind to buy a game, I'm going to get it no matter the review scores.

But it does bother me in the sense that you sometimes see a great game bashed or ignored because it didn't score particularly high (Zelda TP, Virtua Fighter 5, Fable, ect).

People often take review scores too seriously and judge a game before playing it. They act as if it is impossible to enjoy a game that didn't score over 8, and it's totally ridiculous.

Not really. But I would be disappointed if GTAIV got anything less than 9.5/10, simply because I seem to agree with Jeff on every single point he's made about the GTA series in the past.

If I like a game,I will buy it. Unless there is some fatal error that the game has that gamers should know about,I will not purchase a game based on what it scores on GameSpot. Never have, never will.

I meantedited a little. I meant to meet it's hype. I know the score itself is useful, yes. But if it "met it's hype" who cares. It means nothing.

GAmespot either way overrates a game or way underrates it.They can never get it right. Its because they're scores are paid for. They are told rate the game between this and this. They are paid to hype certain games while ignoring others. That is the problem with Game Spot.

these are the two situations that will make the score matter to me:

if a game I am hyped for scores consistently poorly (6 range or lower) I will make sure to at least try it before buying it

also with the opposite, if I'm not hyped for a game and it scores 9+ I'll become more interested in

however small differences like Twilight Princess getting .2 less than 9.0 means nothing

I find it ironic how nobody (for the most part, including myself) cares if a game "flops" (in terms of system wars hype).....yet it is one of the biggest (if not the single biggest)discussed issue in here.

Strange........

Uhh yes. If a game gets below a 8.0, I'll rent it first. Otherwise, if it's 8.0 and up and I want it, i'll buy it.

I'm not talking about just it's score.......I'm talking about it's final score in relation to it's hyped score.......

Well at first its "WTF"
Then its "GS SUCKS"
Then its "O well it was just one review"
Then its "Well i agree with that part, but why so much off the score"
Then its "O well, reviews don't matter so much, its personal preference"
Then its "IGN loves wii much more than GS so i'll pay more attention to thier reviews"
Then its "Damn, why did they underscore this game so much.. its going to hurt sales and ruin gaming forever!!!!" wel.. not really.

Not really... The only thing that matters to me about a game is whether or not I like it, and whether or not my friends like it enough to play it with me if it's multiplayer.

Yeah, the "SW Game" is probably the dumbest game I've ever seen.

It's one where one person's opinion is > everyone else. And that same person's opinion is >my own. It is in no way a representation of the real world and is the most retarded model I've ever seen devised. How in the world did it get this bad?

Who knows, SW was never about reason.
