Does Nintendo need a new franchise for Wii to keep the hardcore satisfied?

Do you think so? I love me some Mario and Zelda- but it'd be nice to see a new 'epic' franchise started by Nintendo... they seemed to have no problem coming up with amazing franchises in the NES/SNES days... :\

I wouldn't be surprised if they were working on a Zelda, or if there new project is influenced by it. They have Zelda on the brain over there for sure.

I definetly want some new IP's from Nintendo and no I'm not talking about causal games. I love Zelda and Mario, not really into Metroid but I'll check out other M.. I really want to see what the brains over at Nintendo can come up with. New IP's breath life into into the consoles when they begin to get stale just look at the PS3 with Uncharted and Resistance. The 360 with Gears and Mass Effect, I kno third party devs but still..

They dont count to me I like games with stories although I will admit Nintendo does know how to make money.

I guess they are a new IP. But I think people are talking about more of an adventure IP. The Wii series is mainly Mini Game/Simulation typethings. Although, The Wii Series is quite fun despite the extreme casualness.

It will come Nintendo has a number of IPs to go though each gen. It just takes time to get to it. So far we have got Punch Out, Mario, getting Zelda, Animal Crosssing, Paper Mario, Metroid and Excite. They will get there, I am hoping that is what Retro is working on. We know it's not Metroid. Most Hardcore gamers don't sell there consoles no matter how much they don't play it. And most are keeping it for Other M and Zelda Wii.

How many Wii's sold there is? 57millions+? most of people who bought them are casuals (of course not all since many people on this forum own one and i don't think a casual would be on a gaming forum) and casuals buy random stuff cuz they don't know what is good and what not worth 50$. Forget about the *more Wii titles* look at the 1st place which is held by Madden 010 on 360 (i think) and the Wii sold over double of what 360 sold.

No, because I'm satisfied with the game that the Wii provides. Between my Wii and PS3, I can play almost every game that I'm interested in. It seems like just having a Wii will give permission to some to say I'm not hardcore, but whatever. I'm a happy gamer.

Nope, if the 'hardcore" arent satisfied with what Nintendo has now then they should sell and bail now. Personally Im more than satisfied with what Ive got, the Wii is a behemoth of a system IMO.

All I want right now is Zelda Wii, Pikmin 3 and new F-Zero, Star Fox and DK games. :)

They revived the Punchout, Excite and Sin and Punishment series. They also created the Wii Sports games and Endless Ocean 1/2, which are pretty fun. Upcoming new releases include Tact of Magic (RTS), Dynamic Zan (Action/Adventure), Monado (RPG) and Cosmic Walker (Adventure) (NoA needs to bring these over asap). I think Nintendo is doing fine by creating these games along with their mainstream IPs.

Nintendo could easily get away with not creating another new franchise this generation. They've barely even scratched the surface of the properties they own. I'm still waiting for Wii editions of Starfox and Pilotwings. Not to mention the really obvious stuff like that Kirby game that hasn't talked about in years...

However, when Nintendo made new franchises last generation, we got Pikmin. So...

I don't rember the numbers but Nintendo has more New IPs than M$ or Sony. And about 40 games out or announced compared to M$ 25 and Sony 21

I agree completely. Hardcore gamers are like the highest of high maintenance girlfriend - if you manage to please them one moment, there's no guarantee they won't be complaining 5 minutes later.

I didn't even mention DS titles since they is 40+ new IPs on the DS.

If by hardcore you mean 15-35 year old self proclaimed hardcore males then sure. Do I think they should go that route? Naw, that group is a waste of effort compared to Nintendo's strengths.
