this is how i view the playstation:

PS1: the self-made men, created a fortune

PS2: carried in his father work and improved on it

PS3: the lazy playboy son, who only wants to leech off his rich dad

I do see the PS3 reclaiming some of Sony's former glory, but because of the stronger competition, will not quite live up to the level of the previous consoles.

The PS3 is a little more futuristic, it's just lazy now. I wish the online system was a little more developed like the 360. But it introduces blue ray technology and all of the games specially made for the PS3 have extroadinary potential to have many features. I don't think I ever heard of blue ray b4 the PS3 came out. lol

I think it's a complete and utter failure compared to the PS1 and PS2. It even looks worser.

what you cant get any worse thn the ps2, that was just a black box.

I think the ps3 looks cool. It has the curves, no disk tray and heat sensing buttons. It actually looks like it costs more than £50.

Playstation 3 definitely stands up to its predeccesors. It clearly is a step ahead of PS2 in terms of technology and functionality. More importantly they are providing onilne play for free.

The reason why anyone would think otherwise is all relatively to the 360.

maybe the reason anyone would think otherwise is because what you said about being better in terms of technology and functionality are the bare basics anyone should expect of the next gen console?

i will give you the free online play though

the reason as to why so many people think the PS3 disapoints is based on the games

Not really. The first two are called some of the best systems ever, yet this new one is often called crap. By me :P.

Not even close in my eyes, I had no issues picking up a PS1 and PS2, but the PS3 doesn't even interest me and offers me nothing truly unique that I can't get else where (beyond MGS4). It needs to do a lot more and bring much more to the table to even think about living up to the Playstation name.

PS3 is a PS system whether people like it or not, the thing is that Sony took a risk as appose to last gen when PS2 was just bigger and better then PS1. PS3 is not just a jump from PS2 but a massive leap which people wont recognise until PS3 is half way through it's lifespan. The reason people bash the PS3 is simply because Microsoft came out early this gen and got a jump on the cometition, PS3 has longer legs then the 360 and will be around way after the 360 is gone. I say PS3 lives up to the name because if Sony wanted to they could have just created a PS2.5 and it would have sold like crazy but they didn't because they aknowledge that fans deserve better. I am happy with my purchase and can honestly see myself enjoying the PS3 more in the long run compared to PS2 and I love my PS2. PS3 will still have the highly respected and great 1st/2nd party games as well as 3rd party games so why are people complaining ? omgz GTA is not teh exclusive

But seriously MGS4 aside, the PS3 has been one big Flop so far, compared to the PSOne and PS2.I cannot tell you how dissapointed I have been with it up to now. :(

I agree with that. The PS2 didn't do that well for the first few years but after some time it really went well for the system. It's much to early to say the PS3 isn't living up to the PS brand.

No, I really do not think it does. The PS2 had tons of AAAEs and AAEs. I had tons of JRPGs as well, this gen Playstation falls much shorter.

In terms of game selection and variety, the PS3 still very much lives in the shadow of its predecessor.

i agree with this too. other reason why i think that PS3 will do fine in the lomg run is because Playstation is and is the only game system with full BC. People say that they dont care about BC, but adults buying for kids care about it.

Vectah_Sigma

Except that that's entirely true. The 80GB model has somewhat restricted BC with PS2 games... as do the European versions of the 20GB and 60GB models. And of course the 40GB model can't play PS2 games period.

Definitely not.

The only company that's improved from last gen is MS, though that wasn't hard to do.

As of right now it is not even close to the same success of PS1/PS2. Where the 360, and Wii have been way more successful than Xbox, and GC already. PS3 will not bomb at all, but Sony lost the iron grip it had on the market.

Right now, no way.

But, give it some time and yes, it will eventually live up to the Playstation name. Right now it should just be called a Delay station.

Of course the PS3 is the future, thats exactly why we have to wait so long.
