I am a fan of the xbox but i do own a ps3 and use it a lot for movies and little big planet etc....and i hear a lot about the price being too high at $399 and a new model 160gb at $499, is the price too high for consumers looking to buy a ps3? i am asking this because i bought the launch 60gb model so i was just wondering, if they have a price cut, when should they have it and by how much?

I don't think it's too much $400 is a good bargain for what your getting the problem I see is that it's competitors have their systems for way cheaper so unknowing consumers will go after whats cheap in the eyes.

I dont think they need it but the question is Is it necessary ? yes to compete this gen.

A price cut would help the PS 3 sell alot it would be real good for business I do hear that this will happen and if it does then they will outsell the 360 no doubt.as for wii I don't think they will reach the wiis numbers this gen

The system has 20 million units and it's been out 2 years and 2 months. When will people stop living in Lala land and realize that the PS3 is right around the corner from passing the install bases of the Xbox and Gamecube in about half the time. Is the PS3 doing as good as Sony would have liked, HELL NO! They were on top last gen by far and have fallen far from that position, however, people need to stop acting like the PS3 is in danger of dying (ala Dreamcast). The system will be out the entire gen, and will continue to get all the big 3rd party multi-plat releases as well as it's own set of exclusives that are compettive with Microsoft's exclusives (i.e. last year it was MGS IV, Little Big PLanet, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles versus Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, Banjo-Kazooie). Heck, next year, the PS3's exclusives look much stronger at this point then the 360's.

Considering there's a cheaper system that plays almost all the same game at the same quality, yeah the PS3 is in desperate need of a price cut. Unfortunately Sony needs to be profitable (or at least bleed money at a slower rate) so I don't see the kind of price drop I'm betting Sony would like to have.

Most people don't care about quality and good deals these days when buying a console. Almost everyone I know who got a 360 got it purely because their friends have one. Most just go like "oh, which one is cheaper?" and just get that system. So yes, considering the hardware costs dropping, drop the price.

I'll buy one when they drop it $100. I don't feel at $400 that it has any more value than 360, and no I don't care about Blu-Ray or Wi-Fi.

Im thinking there will be a $100 price-cut on both the 80GB and 120GB PS3's. But im not sure wether that will happen by E3, or perhaps a surprise $100 price-cut on the day Killzone 2 comes out. Either way, I dought it will be any later than E3.

Since it's the only console I don't have this gen(I have a 360/Wii), I would say yes, just knock off at least $50 and I'll buy it, though I am saving up for it.

When Sony cut the price of the ps2, the sales began to surge. Sony needs to bring back the 20 gb Ps3 for a cheaper price instead of releasing a 160 gb; I feel like sacrificing memory simply to get a cheaper price would be beneficial to them.

But honestly, I have my ps3 and I'm happy, so I don't care for a price cut:P

Depends on how good Killzone 2 is. If it really is "teh Halo killer" they should cut the price at least $50 to entice more people to pick up a PS3. Otherwise they might as well wait until 2H 09, Sony needs the money.

No , it doesn't need a price cut , it it is already to cheap .

You Cows just work more and harder , take second jobs , remember that even without games the PS3 will sell like crazy .

Gamers buy consoles to game, the PS3 is so expensive cause it's got so much things added in. It's not "what's cheap" It's "What i want" If everyone wanted a Blu-Ray playing games console with all this Hi def stuff, everyone would buy a PS3 as it IS a bargain. Sadly, that's not the case.

The bottom line is that they still shouldn't have included blu ray... They banked on people caring about it, and I do, but most people don't. Now if they lower the prices they are giving away afree br player... they shot themselves in the foot.

If Sony cuts PS3 price it won't be until after their fiscal year ends which is in March.

Of course it does, on the basis that I cannot afford it.

Jokes aside, in the perfect world we'd see one. It isn't really likely, but it would help Sony tremendously if they could find a way to do it without taking a hit to their own wallet. I can see why either of the other systems would outsell it, considering they are considerably cheaper.
But I'm not going to hold my breath. In the end you either get a second job to fund your addiction, or lock yourself in your house and pretend nothing past the PS2 was ever released.
