Does the Wii make you sad as a gamer?

I am kind of bummed that I haven't been into the Wii as much as I'd hoped. I originally hoped that the Wii would rekindle the feelings I had as a young kid, playing the NES & SNES. Instead, I just can't get into the extremely shallow games that it offers.

My Wii collects dust. Yes, I keep it plugged in to my TV, unlike my Gamecube and my Dreamcast, but this machine gave me so much promise. I try hard to overlook the horrible graphics (relative to HD consoles & PC), but the games are still shallow and unfulfilling.

I really hope Ninty has something epic up their sleeve for us 'core gamers'. And by epic, I mean something better than Galaxy, Zelda & Metroid combined because the three of those games to me were mediocre with some precious moments sparsely sprinkled throughout.

yes... you have no idea how hyped i was for the system. I mean it had so much potential, and ive waited 2 years and still like, its nothing compared to what i thought or hoped it would be

Can you not type in all caps? Galaxy doesn't do it for me, sorry that I don't share your opinion. If you don't believe that I have a Wii, that's your problem. Many people on hear have seen my pics showing it next to my 360. Go search the threads if it makes you feel better.

When I got the Wii, I was hoping to play games like LittleBigPlanet on it. Instead, we have Banjo & Viva Pinata on the 360 and LBP on the PS3. I guess when your console prints money, you can continue to dump shovelware all over your fanbase.

Galaxy is an amazing game from top to bottom. I say this because I hate platforms and I actually managed to collect about 90 stars before I finished with the game. I would take all of the other games listed over Galaxy, though. Bioshock is amazing!

I had to force myself to continue past 30 stars. I know there were some charming moments where I'm like, "yeah this is a Mario game" but I don't know, maybe I am just tired of Mario and all the other characters not talking like we're still in the 16-bit era.. I got more humor and fun out of Conker Reloaded on the original Xbox, even with its 'more traditional' platforming elements.

I sold mine. Was collecting dust for months (I only just bought it May 2008)

At least this way, somebody who really wants it can have it rather than it being wasted with me.

I'm not selling it. No way. I learned a long time ago not to sell consoles. I am a collector. I still have my Virtual Boy and original NES (which I partially melted by dumping glo-stick liquid on it!)

I think that's just it. Nintendo's titles tend to have stories that are contrived.. Like they only exist to say that the games actually have a story. The characters only have character because they are icons of the industry, not because they are charismatic. The graphics, which on rare occasions actually utilize the meager resources of the hardware, are generally sterile. Everything looks too clean, like the N64 games. :(

The only thing that makes me sad as a gamer are people who call themselves "hardcore gamers" who complain about other peoples gaming tastes and go on message boards to complain about it when in reality the games they play aren't all that "hardcore" to begin with.Holy_Phoenix

no. i think its great for console to take away the "big budget, fancy tech" card away from devs and basically force them to think about the nuts and bolts again.

the reaction of 3rd parties and there complete inability to do somethign interesting on it (bar a couple of exceptions) is what makes me sad. this is supposed to be a creative industry and yet those who are supposed to be at the bleeding edge dont have a bloody clue how to do somethign interesting on it (hell most struggle to make anythign work on it and make it look better than a PS2 game). its a testament to ninty as a developer and a business that the wii has lasted with such terrible support.

theres nothing fundimentally wrong with the console thats stopping them from delivering excellence. nintendo have demonstrated on numerous occasions how to do it and when it delivers, it delivers a very unique experience and it delivers excellence.

hopefully by the end of gen, 3rd parties will be somewhat respectable on the console. but so far they are nothing short of an absolute disgrace (bar a few exceptions). thats sad, very very sad.

The reason 3rd parties aren't doing so well on the Wii is because their games don't have names like "Mario" or "Donkey Kong" in them. If you don't have those names, you're just another low-def game with gimmicky controls... but without Mario slapped in front of the name.... Which is all it seems you need to sell to the Wii user base these days.

I mean did all of you WATCH MS's E3 showing...it was a bout 4 Hardcore games in the start than casual garbage all the way to the end..

I feel sorry that this is what Console gaming could become from now on..but as long as devs can prevent it by making quality games they may have a chance a fighting off the casual syndrome..but only time will tell
