Ive been noticing that some of system 'exclusives' are becoming timed exclusives.

My question is, what is the point of timed exclusives. I mean sure core gamers feel a sense of previlege by getting the game first, but after half a year, the playing field evens out again. Does timed exclusive do anything for system demand?

Exclusive DLC seems more effective than timed exclusives in my opinion. At least these contents are permanent and pose a real advantage/disadvantage of a particular console.

Lastly, since more and more timed exclusives are to appear, does this suggest that third party developers have more influence in the gaming industry now adays. Is it a good thing.

Discuss.

Lets see how well Last Remnant pushes 360 in Japan and how well Rock Band 2 does software wise.

Timed exclusives? Hmm... I dont think they do affect actual hardware sales. I think only big exclusive releases do. But timed exclusives probably deny game sales of the system that gets it later, which in turn means less royalties from decreased sales.

In a way, thats hurts a bit more than losing a system sold since most systems arent sold at a profit or at marginal profits.

Depends on the game. Look at the effect of GTA last gen. So if the game is a big one yes there is a effect if if not then no effect really.

It really depends on the game, if people know it's timed or not, and the systems fanbase. I don't think there is any way to put an exact science on it. "'X' game is timed therefore it will sell systems and benfit X company". It doesn't work like that

I think the only thing timed exclusive has done so far is give core console gamer bragging rights when it release, and then the later released fanbase bragging rights when the exclusive runs out. Other than that it probably makes more money for the core console just because of pre release hype does wonders for game sales. Bioshock will sell alot less copies on the PS3 just because its a year old now and so many extensive reviews had been written to encourage/disuade buyers. The impluse I'll buy it without reasoning factor is gone.

I guess timed exclusives play off gamer mentality more than anything.
