I think it does. It may even affect the type of consoles you buy!

So for example…

Smart players may play turn based rpgs for storyline (for example..that is)

Athletic minded people play sports games.

Action oriented people play fps and action games.

Let’s gather some opionions on this topic.

Oh and morons purchase PS5 consoles!! I am genuinely kidding, of course.

Oh for sure. But I feel that it is a bit different than that. I have noticed that the more open minded a person is in general, the more eclectic they become with gaming. I legit for instance play every type of game that there is from 8 bit game made by 1 guy on steam, to Horizon Forbidden West. I can go from Puzzle Fighter 2, to Minecraft then straight over to WWE wrestling, then over to Halo. Zelda? Yes please. Ratchet and Clank? Yep. New Forza game? Sign me up!

The more open minded you are the more chances you have to find interesting things. People really lose out by sticking themselves into a tiny little box like so many do here in SW.

I agree, tho I think your examples leave a lot to be desired.

For example, by "smart people", do you mean the socially-blunted types who often escape to digital worlds in an effort to feel what it's like to be strong? To finally feel like the hero?

"Athletic minded people" as in people who participated in sports, requiring them to learn discipline, teamwork, and to out-work their opponent in order to win? And as a result of their involvement, they're given many more opportunities to socialize and leave the basement?

I'm guessing there's some overlap with the "action-oriented" people, as this group probably consists of a lot of average, everyday people who don't lean into any one specific archetype, but much of who look up to the athletic types.

I think this is a fun mental exercise, but would take quite a bit of psychoanalysis in order to do it justice. But like Mojito said above, it's better to be open minded and be able to try all different types of games. You might prefer certain types of genres, which is fine, but its good to experience other things as well. That's just life in general.

Your examples are pretty terrible. Personality do play a role but they play a different role depending on the player despite being in the same personality group. Different gamer personality may play the same game but for different reasons.

I detest guns yet I still like action games and first person shooters

I detest my fellow man too so that is why I will take anyone on in an RTS game.

@Miyomatic: @Pedro: ya I actually agree. It’s not a one size fits all examples. That is just a scenario….I created. It doesn’t have to be all encompassing.

The examples could be better.

I personally play all except multiplayer games, I find them not so enjoyable after a short while. Let alone they're being killed by microtransactions, even if all items sold are cosmetic items, it still puts a bad taste in my mouth that they have to be purchased with real life money, and can't be obtained in game even if getting them is hard cause usually these items sold are better than free ones.

Plus, they can't stay intresting for long before you get bored of playing the same match every time. I only buy COD for the campaign and after I finish it I try the multiplayer for a day or two, and then it's over I'm done with the game.

I could try it if it is free and is hyped, some of them are really great, (and most of them are free) But I Wouldn't spend money on something I know I wouldn't play for more than a few hours at most.

I completely hear you. It’s hard to believe some people only enjoy one genre of gaming. I like to have fun when I play games. if I’m not having fun, I try to view said game in a different angle. I give games a chance. I want too see the fun in what other people see.

Better yet, a completely new genre that you become really good at. It would be awesome to me if I dominated another genre I don’t play.

Problem I have with this sort of thing is that tastes change over time. For instance, when I was young, I used to play a lot of Platformers, Sports and Racing games, now I rarely touch Sports or Platformers. I mostly play Racing and third person shooters and RPG's.

Not sure what one's personality is to play those different kinds of games.

Maybe. I've noticed complete morons often buy PS5s with Fifa and CoD.

Maybe when I was younger but these days I love variety. I look forward to trying different genres that I'm unfamiliar with.

I have always been easy to stress, so I find myself attracted to turn based games or games where I can take my time ti think.

Meh, I'm sure it has some impact, though I think it has less to do with personality type and more to do with general interest.

I love LEGO, I like to build things, I like to cook and create...therefore I like games like Kerbal Space Program, SimCity, Factorio, Satisfactory, etc.

However, somewhat ironically, I am also a very competitive person in sports and life in general, but I dislike overly difficult games and will often quit when I die.

So I think it is important not to read too much into personality type, mostly because games can be as much a way to escape your reality as they can be a way to channel your interests. Someone who is competitive in their real life might play games to just relax, for example, because they need that break. Conversely, someone who isn't able to really compete in the real world (maybe they have a boring job or no other way to channel it) might need that outlet in video games.

I don't know if I would agree. I'm very comedic, but I hate comdey movies and don't like comedy in my games. I'm athletic and I find sports games to be boring. I'm no bafoon, and I don't like strategy games.
