Well I just saw this thread in the Wii forums and it's some major ownage to fanboys.

well, you have to look at it like this. The devs KNOW they are making low budget shovelware. Ninjabread man sold copies in the THOUSANDS. you can bet that they broke even on that at the very least. in fact, they prolly did, cuz there is a sequal coming out. So, do Wii shovelware games sell well, unfornutaley, yes, yes they do, becasue the people making it KNOW they arent going to sell a ton of copies, but they are still going to make money. so when you look at it in context, shovelware doesnt have to sell a million copies to sell well.jigglebilly1983
So what? 99.99% of games in history sell thousands. People act like shovelware sells in the millions.

Ya, but why should you care if there is a Ninja Bread Man 2? It's not going to be a game that most people will ever touch. Main dev's are looking at this shovel ware and seeing a stream of money because there isn't any...

youre missing the point. For AAA titles, the goal IS to sell millions. for shovelware, selling in the thousands is equal to selling millions, becasue they know what it is that they are putting into the market. When 2k Boston finished Bioshock, A High Profile, High Budget Game, they needed to sell in the hundred thousand to millions to recoup losses and make money. For the people who make a lowbudget, low profile Shovelware game on the wii, selling at least afew thounsand copies is the same for them, as hitting the million marker would have been for Bioshock. a game doesnt NEED to sell a million copies to have sold well, becasue its a sliding scale. a shovel ware game thats sells 25,000 copies sells well. An AAA game that sells 200,000 copies has sold poorly. Hype and Projections are the only difference.

Do you expect shovelware to sell ZERO copies? Of course its going to sell a few copies, that's always happened and it will continue to happen.
I made this thread because people act like shovelware on the Wii sells amazingly while it sold bad on the PS2.
Is Carnival Games shovelware?EPaul
Okay, ONE shovelware game out of 500 billion sold well. My point still stands.

Im not Saying I Expect them to sell nothing, Im saying the recent surge of it is worrisome, as it only encourages more trash. I mean, How many Garbage RPGs were there on PSone after FFVII hit mainstream? this the same occurrence, just on a larger scale. for now, itnstead of a good system being defined by its good games, it being defined by its BAD games, and the bade games are heavily outweighing the good for the Wii REALLY early in its life. there are neraly 300 games availabe for the Wii, only 10 are worth playing.
Some shovelware, like Carnival Games and High School Musical, does sell well, however.
Most do not, but some garbage unfortunately finds success.

Only if your a fanboy. Nobody else cares.

Well, for me, its more of a gamer thing, than a fanboy thing. i love my Wii, and it just bums me out to see so much trash on it. i would feel the same for PS3 or 360 if it were happening on such a scale for them as well.

Except even selling 20,000 copies of a crap game isn't going to make as much money as a million copies of Bioshock. Yes, it's harder for a high budget game to break even, but it is more likely to be able to make a large profit if it gains popularity. Games like Ninjabread Man, while turning a profit, will never reach the profit levels of successful high-budget games.
That depends on the definition of shovelware
Are bad games like Mario Party and Mario and Sonic at the Lympics considered shovelware, or is the shovelware reserved for truly horrible games?

So how did the latest Mario Party do again? Also you saying "out of 500 billion" isn't encouraging for the Wii's prospects as a game console.[QUOTE="sexy_chimp"][QUOTE="EPaul"]Is Carnival Games shovelware?Aidenfury19

The 360 has 29 games under 5.0,
does that make it's game line up horrible?

How many of those 29 games sold as well as Carnival games or Mario Party 8?

Well I'm counting 49 for the Wii and it has only been out for about half as long, so take from that what you will.

Mario Party isn't shovelware. They've always sold crazy, especially in Japan, and not to mention it is Mario after all.

You're missing the point entirely
Crap games don't make a lineup, good ones do.

Mario Party is most definitely shovelware, they slap in a dozen or so new minigames (most of which seem to bear a ton of resemblance to older ones) reuse a ton of minigames, slightly change the order of the board and push it out the door.
Oh I understand his point, I just think having a large percentage of generally crap games and only not many more that go past decent isn't a good track record. He chose to make the comparison and I chose to draw a contrast, it is really that simple. You're missing the point entirely

Yes, but some of these crappy games need help and assistance. Like fan run campaigns to buy them.
Demetri_OS
Sorry, what shovelware title has a fan run campaign to sell it?"
None?
Are the fan run campaigns, as was said in your own thread that you got owned in, just people's recommendation for AAA mature niche games??
Yes?
Thought so.

Just like Okami, what a crappy game.
very very very rarely. I would guess most shovel ware that is not tied to a licenced property puts publishers and devs in the red.
Oh, a carnival games is no where near as bad as most make it out to be. Game Trailers was the sole place to give it a proper review.

Then I guess madden is shovelware too?
All sports games are shovelware?
GundamGuy0
Many of them are, but the biggest sports games with each release fundamentally change something(s), whether it is pitching control, additional modes, adding and removing venues...there is definitely more change than in Mario Party in say..MLB The Show or Pro Evo Soccer.
If you would care to look up the meaning of Shovelware you would see this generally isn't the case, but sometimes yes. Or instead you could continue to be oblivious to what shovelware actually means. Then I guess madden is shovelware too?

no sports games have been killed. These yearly releases have killed them. i would much rather play Mario Party 8 over Madden because Mario Party even has more to offer than that rehash fest of a game series.
