Doesn't Xbox 360 sometimes feel like the odd man out? (Compared Wii, PC and PS3)

I guess it's leading PS3 in overall sales but we continue to see monthly sales favor the PS3, and analysts always did predict PS3 to be the longterm winner.

Here is my point of view. Wii and PS3 both have handhelds, both have online options, both have some (or rumored to have) multimedia options, both have several peripheral controllers..... it's just one stayed basic, and one went all the way.

360 is obviously an upgrade over Wii but a little inferior compared to PS3. It doesn't go all the way with HDTV, because PS3 has the blu-ray player. It doesn't go all the way with memory storage because it still sells units that support flash memory while PS3 is hard drive only. It charges $100 for a wireless adapter while its built in on the PS3. It feels like the slightly less talented sibling of PS3. It seems like the only system that is slightly confused on its direction. I know PS3 keeps changing specs too, but PS3 has always been "we're the super-duper high specs blu-ray system." Nintendo has always said what its purpose is: The cheaper more novel casual system.

360 feels like the odd man out. It feels a little bit like some of the last Sega systems. To make matters worse, I'm a PC gamer as well, and so much of 360 feels like a gimped down version of PC gaming, although not nearly as bad as last gen. 360 feels like the system trying to please everyone, but specialize in nothing: stated it would be casual too but not like Wii, tries the high specs of PS3 but still stays traditional console with flash memory and etc, tries to be a PC gaming option but doesn't offer the customization and size of PC communities.

I think it will do better than Sega, but honestly, there are only 2 things that keep me with my 360 since PS3/360 seem to have almost identical libraries these days: 1) the RPGs, i love that genre and apparently its the system of choise for that genre this go-around, and 2) the online options. I love online gaming and even though it charges, it still has the superior online system although PS3 is quickly catching up. I also like the online extras better on 360.

The Wii is obviously the odd one out, in that 2 consoles have 2005/2006 level tech, and the other has 2001 level tech.

Wii is the odd man out with system specs, but not on accident. It's always purposefully gone the direction it has. Cheaper, more casual, slightly more innovative controls, etc.... I don't like the Wii much, but Nintendo knows what it's going for. 360 feels like the system trying to please everyone.

Yeah, i'm not sure how you could look at the 3 consoles and say the 360 is the odd ball out of the group. Its a PS3 without Blu-ray, but costs less (soon to be $200 less) to make up for it. You even get the same games most of the time with the same graphics quality or differences (that often go either way) that can only be noticed when looking at computer captured freeze frames for over 5 minutes.

Not at all. For all its superior hardware, PS3 only current PS3 games are barely better than 360 games... at best. If anything, the combination of SKUs for the PS3 are much more confusing than the ones available for the 360.

I don't think the 360 is directionless at all. It is the system that focuses on community. The PS3 is the one that doesn't seem to have focus. It's fighting a traditional console war by playing to its hardware strengths while playing catch-up with online.

No, it and the PS3 have always seemed a bit similar to me. Really PS3 is on the complete other end of the scale from the Wii since there is very little to no push for casuals to buy it unlike the Wii which is focused on casuals. Its also the most powerful(arguably) while the Wii is the least. The Wii has almost no multimedia features unlike the PS3. Really, its hard to group the PS3 and Wii together rather than the 360.

i agree, the 360 is obviously the odd man out. its just a matter of time before ps3 domination, let the lemms have their time now, ms will soak them for another console in a year or two. they should be the cows.

Which would be about right for a new console from Microsoft -- if they continue with their 4 year console lifetime span.

That's the biggest proof that I feel makes 360 the odd man out. You really shouldn't want to release a console that soon. Find your direction and go with it. Sega can tell you this.

I love how ms scrapped the xbox as it was a failure after 4 years and people seem to think they will always do it, there is no way the 360 will only last 4 years. Its a huge improvement over the first.

Because of your profile name, your statement just lost all credibility.

Thats about it. Plus the fact that the 360/PS3/PC target about the same people while the Wii targets nearly every opposite as the other three.

I would not even bother saying something about the PSP, even Sony stopped making games for it and every one of us PSP owners still cry for games.

But the original Xbox still had better games and more games released in 2006 than even the Gamecube -- which was replaced in November of 2006. Case in point being, well up to the launch and sometime after the launch of the Xbox 360 - the original Xbox wasn't dead, and continued to get great games on it. Why does it make it a lesser console because it was released sooner - Microsoft really showed Sony and Nintendo what they're capable of, and the Xbox 360 proves just how far Microsoft has come. The console is -- arguably -- without a doubt, the best console to own right now. Sega's trouble was financing.

Failure economically for Microsoft -- yes -- however, their aim was not to make big bucks with the Xbox, their aim was to establish a foothold and gain a big chunk of that market share, and by God did they. Look at what the Xbox franchise has accomplished -- it's success is undeniable.

I have to agree. It's only their second console, and they arent doing bad by any means.
