Maybe the future, it isn't the present though.

Unfortunatly I don't think the Wii has the processing power to pull off what they were talking about in this interview.  Nice try however.

Well they talk about Koji kondo for a reason(Looks at Zelda) the Irony would be to big. Well if this becomes true the chances of games surpassing the 8 range in sound are over:P

I REALLY irritates me that Zelda TP's sound score was marked down for using MIDI. That along with other stupid reasons.

Cool.  Once there was a guy on here who specialized in musical theory and explained just how complex and good sounding a MIDI could be and provided examples...MIDIs can sound really great!  I use them in my own game, but they're not made by professionals so they sound like garbage in comparison but they're still decent.

Yeah Midis can sound really great i.e. Twilight Princess. While I do love orchestrated music like God of War, I love the Twilight Princess soundtrack as well.

Some points in the game I was mesmerised by some of the musical tracks. Mostly the one's in the Twilight realm,
Twilight Palace with the Sol orbs and when fighting Zant.
They are just sounds you could not produce with an orchestra.

Orchestrated sounds better, but layers of MIDI on top of orchestrated music would be perfect. (If Zelda TP's music was fully orchestrated and still had those MIDI dynamic scenes at certain battles, the orchestrated layer could just decrease in volume.

From what I know of music composing I do agree. The only thing I would find difficult would be performing certain effects like reverb in realtime. Such efects are RAM intensive (From an FLStudio view).

Yeah I didn't think of that part. And a guy made a website where he "orchestrated" all of the Zelda music. Project Zero I believe it was and some of it just didn't sound too hot to be honest. Koji Kondo music is amazing just from a composition prospective.

Trouble is, playing good sound using MIDI can actually take more memory than playing a prerecorded clip. Remember, in a prerecorded clip, only a small amount of the actual file has to be in memory at a time (for an MP3 at, say, 128kbit/sec, you'd only need about 64KB to buffer several seconds of music).
