They're just giving consumers what they want better than MS or Sony is. It's consumers that are making the Wii the incredible success that it is.... and they obvious love motion controls and fun mainstream style games, so if you're going to blame anybody for the direction the industry is moving in you can blame them.

btw don't think for two seconds that if either MS or Sony could go back in time and be the first with a strategy like Nintendo's this generation they wouldn't have. MS stated a couple days ago that they are impressed how the Wii is attracting old people and women gamers and that they themselves are trying to become more family oriented and mainstream. Sony already tried (and failed) to incoporate motion sensing in their controller, and with recent announcements of games for little girls they're looking to do the same thing.

Of course Microsoft wants to get more family oriented etc.......it just gives them a bigger playing field to sell their systems. But let's hope they don't go to the extent of making their whole console a gimmicky like Nintendo.

What's to blame? What's going wrong with the industry? Last I checked there are a substantial number of "hardcore" games along with "non-gamer/casual" games as well. Please someone tell me how gaming is going wrong again?

Wii is certainly not killing "hardcore" gaming.

There is nothing or nobody to blame, I was just trying to make a point. Hardcore games will always be around (and the Wii will probably lead the way with them when it becomes the industry leader).

Silly fanboys calm yourselves. Nothing is killing hardcore gaming. Whether or not the wii succeeds or fails, you'll get your shooters. Scoot scoot. Move a long now.

am i the only one that actually thinks that the wii has hardcore appeal? It's like all those people who thought that the ds was a gimmick that would trail off because of the psp's superior hardware. Instant access to the whole screen is more than just a cooky-fun experiment to attract casuals. It is a significant advancement in gaming tech and nintendo is the first company to take it seriously. Nintendo should be creditted for having the guts to do what they did with the ds and the wii.

I certainly blame consumers for all the crappy trends. Boy Bands. Britney Spears. Ben Stiller Movies.

Ugh.

Didn't Nintendo state that they want to bring people that don't normally game into gaming with games like Wii sports?
