Imo both looks Excellent. but DOOM Eternal just killed it. its the most impressive thing i have ever seen in years. both games are going to redefine id software like in 90s how Doom and Quake redefine it.

Rage 2 for sure.

I prefer games that have a variety of things going on - whether it's unique weapons, an interesting story, or plenty of tactical options.

Doom.

Rage 2 art design reminded me so much of Horizon zero dawn.

Skimmed through the Doom 2 gameplay video. Looks way too much like the previous game, including the enemies. The first was fun in shorter bursts. Monotonous if you kept going and going. Rage 2 seems to have the usual trash accuracy of modern first person shooters. The demo players pulled up the sights even when the enemy was right in front of them. I'm so sick of ADS stop and shoot gameplay. Not really excited for either one. I guess Doom 2, since the first was a lot faster and at least more fun than Rage.

Can't say. I know what DOOM will be, but RAGE 2 is completely different. I might like RAGE 2 more.

Doom E is amazing but Rage 2 is much larger in scope and depth while looking pretty impressive as well.

DOOM (2016) reboot was arguably the most fun I've had in ANY first-person game for a long, long, long time. Sure, there are more interesting first-person games or even ones I like more, but DOOM was just insanely fun, from the second you started to the moment you stopped.

I look forward to DOOM Eternal, no doubt.

But Rage 2 looks pretty great as well. Post-apocalyptic games are always a blast, and Avalanche Studios has a pretty damn good track record with open-world games (Just Cause, Mad Max, Renegade Ops) that are also over-the-top in action.

I think I want both equally, but might be tipping towards DOOM Eternal due to the franchise history.

DOOM Eternal looks like a true evolution.

New Weapons, New location, New mechanics, dash movement, new engine, more open level design instead of arena lockdown etc.

RAGE 2 may have ADS but its far from any other FPS. its larger in scale, excellent car combat plus Doom like shooting make this game very impressive.

They both look pretty cool. That said, my favourite moment at the whole conference was the beginning of the Phobos gameplay video, when the Doom Slayer strolled through a bunch of people who were all scared to see him, dragged a guy by the key card he was still wearing around his neck to open a door, and walked up to a rather mouthy security guard and silently went "nice plasma rifle, I'll take that." Doomy's just all out of f***s to give.

Doom Eternal for me.

Rage 1 was not well received because the PC version sucked donkey balls, not because the game was bad or anything.

In fact I still consider the shooting and the enemies in Rage 1 to be the best I've ever seen in an FPS.

The car mechanics and car combat needed some work, sure. But they didn't have to throw everything the original offered in the garbage and do a reboot.

Car combat will be much better this time around. the shooting was excellent but everything was bland and shooting looks more better this time around too. more fast movement with dashing mechanic.

I also liked Rage 1 quite a bit. but apart from shooting mutants. it was not very good at all but i always wanted the game to deserve a second chance.

I can't say I was too impressed with the gameplay of Doom4. I actually thought Doom3 was much better. I preferred the slower pace and brooding atmosphere.

These new Doom games just seem too fast paced and hectic to allow for much thinking.

Doom: Eternal, gameplay was so satisfying over Rage 2. Doom 2016 did so many things right that you don't even need to change that much, but hot damn. I love the new movement options and the sounds are satisfying and punchy and sorry Rage 2, Doom: Eternal just outshines you in every way.

F.E.A.R series. It wasn't just run n gun; there were some tactics involved too.

Deus Ex series. Maybe it's not pure fps, but still.

Far cry series: Again maybe not pure fps but still...

Dead Space series

Borderlands: there were at least a few principles that needed to be adhered to

Rage: Definately a variety of cool weapons - inviting the opportunity for tactics

Metro 2033: Most of the thinking was probably about ammo conservation but at least that's something...

and I can think of a whole host of other games where there are a variety of elements to spice up gameplay. Whether that be things like suit properties, bullet-time or some other kind of special ability or weapon...

Also I think alot of it has to do with the sheer speed and number of enemies. I just felt like most of Doom was just run/strafe/shoot - and the glory kills didn't really help much to spice up the combat.

Sure there's a bit of tactics - like taking out the more dangerous enemies first, saving powerups to near the end of an enemy wave and choosing between weapons.

But a few of the enemies were just super dangerous so there wasn't much option but to be running constantly. I think it was probably the constant running that I found tiresome.

To be fair that's doom, that's how dooms been since the start of the series. Its always been run constantly.

I suppose so, but it just seems to be getting more and more hectic and I'm not sure it's to my liking. That said, I might give the new one a chance.

Rage 2 I fear might be promising too much. I see Avalanche's talent in the vehicle bits, looks like their Mad Max game on crack. But hey, I would love it if they get that running smooth and looking good on consoles at launch. I for sure thought the early Doom footage we saw of the 2016 game was strictly what PC gamers were going to expect, that consoles would be lucky to get a decent port and XB1 for sure just forget about it, but oh how I was wrong, I would like to be just as surprised here. But, it is Avalanche, who gave use a Just Cause 3, so there's that to consider.

Rage 2 looks more ambitious but maybe too ambitious. Doom Eternal looks like more the same, which feels safe.

I loved Avalanche, but I was not a big fan of either Mad Max and Just Cause 3. Both games had amazing ideas, but such awful executions. Ended up getting bored really fast by either game.

Though it had many amazing sights, at the end of the day Mad Max was just a boring open world desert.

Just Cause 3 lost track in its many similar side activities, falling in the Ubisoft trap.

This time Avalanche is making three games at the same time... They should really downsize and focus more instead of spreading their resources over so many projects.

1. Neither objectively looks last gen, and will likely stomp a majority of consoles games when on Ultra 4k.

2. I'm sorry these games aren't mostly cut-scenes and quick time events. I'm also sorry that fast paced shooters play poorly on controllers, relatively to mouse. Not everything has to be a slow cinematic game designed for soccer moms.

Couldn't agree more that's why I'm looking more forward to Rage 2. Doom Eternal looks good but Doom 2016 got a bit repetitive after awhile Rage 2 has the variety that Doom doesn't.

Looking foward to both. I voted for Doom E. Never played the first Rage. I looked today on Steam and see it is $2.49. So i will be buying that tonight so i can play it before R2 comes out.
