Congrats to Id Software
Congrats to Id Software
Wish it could but mainstream media is not into this masterpiece. so a plus point.
Weren't a lot of people saying Doom Eternal was worse than Doom 2016? I didn't love the first one and haven't played eternal yet. I dunno this pick gamespot why didn't you give this to a true AAAA game like last of us 2?

I made a poll not long ago. majority prefer Eternal.
On a more on-topic note, Half-Life: Alyx definitely deserves more accolades. VR might never go mainstream, but no one can say Valve didn't bust their arses trying.
Congratulations to Half Life: Alyx. It is the one game on the list I can rightfully say I'm jealous for not having the right kind of hardware to play it on.
Gotta say, as someone on VR and was pretty hyped for this, kinda enjoyed Until You Fall more. I think it basically solved one of the big problems of melee in FP where it's kind of shit. Though it's not really to the scale of Alyx and does get repetitive before the finish line.
It's a lot like Superhot where it has an awesome template in a bite-sized game.
But yea, it is nice to see Alyx get some recognition, it's basically what VR needed, solid game and did feel like a glimpse into the future.
It didn't have as much extensive VR interaction as something like Boneworks, but it's implementation was flawless where you're concentrated on the game and not the jank.
Still feel it really needed an NG+. Like, heavily influenced by Resident Evil but omits one of it's best aspects.

Not everyone can even play VR I lost eyesight in my right eye so I can't even use a VR headset this thing is a terrible choice for anyone who has kinda disability forcing VR headset to play GOTY game is outrageous.
Congrats to Id Software

Mainstream media is not into that masterpiece...yet you have a bunch of scores from mainstream media praising the "masterpiece" haha

You can use VR just fine.

Lmao... good ol' Ghosts. In his own little world.
Anyway, good to see a different winner besides the usual safe bets.
Left field pick. It's always great when media is not just an echo chamber. (I feel butthurt for not having the hardware but not salty)
Thread is way too much trollish.
Very well deserved! Easily my GOTY and second time Gamespot has gone against the grain and picked my fav (other time being Demon's Souls).

Really? How do you use a VR headset with only having one good eye? Isn't that whole point of VR to have two separate screens one for each eye for immersion? I don't' see myself being able to play Half-Life alyx ever if its VR only. Last of Us 2 had all kinds of features and support for disabled people meanwhile for Half-Life Alyx I really haven't heard anything about there disabled support from Valve. This is just not a good choice for a GOTY imo.
If its a great game or the best game ever that's fine cause I will never be able to play it cause of what it requires. So since I can't play it would never gonna be 'my' GOTY. I guess for gamespot they just don't care if you have disability or lack funds for a vr headset there going with this game and that's it.
I had a detached retina in my right eye so yeah VR is out for me if valve wants to put it on normal screens then I could experience if not I just can't. I guess some people don't care like that trolls above.
Halflife: Alyx can lit be played with one hand lying in a bed.
It's made to be as accessible as possible within the reality of the medium.
@longtonguecat:
Demon souls on ps5 is the best demon souls experience.
I'd agree - one trophy off getting the platnium. :D

How do you use... well, reality if you have one good eye? It's the same case for VR; it will feel identical to how you perceive real life. You still have 6DoF motion controls, 6DoF head movement and parallax for depth cues - just like real life.
Half-Life: Alyx actually has tons of accessibility options, to the point where it deserved being recognized for them. This includes left/right handed support, one hand mode, several seated/standing options, movement options, snap turning, and careful design curation for the horror elements making sure it's not too over the top.

but my friend you complain about accessible casual games. but with valve and Half life, you are fine with one button casual game.
very biased my friend. very.

Unfortunately this gotcha' was too strong.
Must reluctantly concede.

Nothing quite like a day, like another day here in SW, when one poster appeals to another poster and then it conflicts the interests of the other poster, but we are all still cool with it at the end of the day.
Yeah, what a day today.
Isn't that right, ProtossRushX
Interesting choice (HL:A). I can see that being a good pick, even though I haven’t played it. Ten years from now it could easily have been proven to be the most influential.
@ghosts4ever: You tell them ghost. You are by far the most rational, unbiased and objective person on these forums. Your good taste in gaming has no match.
Wow, LOL at some of the uninformed VR comments.
Maybe if they were the old assed red/blue 3d glasses you would have a point. Those require your brain to be able to mix the red/blue together and create one resultant 3d image.
Current VR is simply sending the same image to each eye, from a slightly different angle. Your brain puts them together and creates a resultant 3d image on your brain. So if you're having trouble seeing 3d in current VR, you would have the same limitation in real life.
