https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/capcom-says-its-working-on-re-activating-other-dormant-ips-like-onimusha-and-okami/

Capcom has said it’s working on “re-activating dormant IPs” following the announcements of Onimusha and Okami sequels this week.

On Thursday the Japanese development giant announced that it is developing a new entry in the Onimusha franchise, the first in several years. The game, which is set to release in 2026, will be a new entry in one of the many Capcom franchises that fans have requested new games from for some time.

Now, Capcom has said that it’s working on bringing more legacy franchises back in modern forms.

“In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently,” reads a statement on the company’s investor relations site.

“The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, which includes reviving past IPs like the two titles announced above, in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles.”

Earlier this year, the company asked what franchises that fans wanted to see return.

The publisher launched its ‘Super Elections’ survey in February on its Capcom Town website, asking players 10 questions about various aspects of Capcom.

One of these questions asks: “Are there any Capcom game series (including spin-off games) that you would like to see get a sequel or new game?” and gives 20 options.

At the time, Capcom shared a word cloud showing which games have appeared most often in the survey answers.

The words shown largest in the word cloud are those which have appeared most frequently, suggesting that Dino Crisis and Mega Man had been the most requested series.

It was great to see these old school franchises making a comeback. It seems like Capcom and Sega are both committed to bringing back their old IPs, which is great. We also got Silent Hill 2 this year and MGS 3 Remake coming up. What other IPs would you love to see come back, SW?

With the development window of games, not following up timely on sequels puts games in dormant status practically. That said some of these IPs mentioned are a decade behind seeing new entries.

These franchises have been MIA for a while and seemed to have more life left in them.

It would be nice to see some new Bloodborne. I would like another Jumping Flash, The Evil Within, Outrun, Ridge Racer, Wipeout, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Demon Crest/Gargoyle's Quest, Phantasy Star offline RPG, Zelda II direct sequel.

Capcom are absolutely killing it these days. Would love to see these franchises come back as well:

- Final Fight

- Breath of Fire

- Dino Crisis

I've never played an Oninusha or Virtua Fighter.

Wouldn't mind more Viewtiful Joe and Mega Man.

@Litchie: Amazing to think VF5 was released in 2006, and it still holds up! A very fun and deep fighting game. I'm excited to see a new one and I hope it catches the interest of the fighting game community.

It's Crapcom so they're going to remake everything because they have run out of original ideas, and because they know they can milk their fanbase dry.

@uninspiredcup: I believe it was listed in that GeForce leak a few years ago so I’m kind expecting it to pop up sometime soon.

@Archangel3371: Hopefully. There's always the possibility it got canceled. They were supposed to revive it before with Final Fight: Seven Sons, but it never ended up coming out.

Ofcourse... Devil May Cry is at the top of my list Capcom list.

Would like to see another Bionic Commando. The 2009 game isn't bad.

While the new Ninja Gaiden could be a nice game... there needs to be 3d one.

When they manage to untangle the licensing/copyright/IP mess that is the No One Lives Forever franchise and we get a new Cate Archer espionage shooter (either a third installment or a honest-to-god remake)...then I will truly believe anything is possible and we can resurrect old games.

While I am not unhappy to see older franchises brought back to life, there are very few times I would prefer it over the creation of a new intellectual property. Games are art (not trying to be a hipster, but they are, OK!?) and art should be expressive and creative; allow developers to truly create something.

Capcom should just make a 2D HD Final Fight game and call it Final Fight 4. Making the levels open and having different pathways would be nice. They should make it harder than Final Fight 3.

Yup, really don't like how non-creative developers have been lately. Remasters and remakes everywhere, even remastering games that are like 2 years old.

Trying to think of a new IP that is good, and can't. That really shouldn't be hard to do.
