The DOTA 2 beta isn't bad, considering the amount of users are "controlled." If it can stay like that after release, then maybe it has a chance for a nomination at least. I won't know for sure until the end of the year. Regardless, I'm sure it won't be as rage-sensitive as LoL or HoN on release.
I,a random forum poster,approve this.
consolites can now feel owned.

You're not random. You're Steve.
It's mine for 2011 and will probably be tied with diablo for 2012. Rage is a natural part of the game, we all know that it can be rage inducing so I just ignore rage most of the time.

I've never played an MoBA simply because of the reputation of the community. I have better things to do with my time then get kicked from a game or yelled at by some random dude just for being new to the game.
However, I always wondered, why exactly are these games so damn rage inducing? I mean, my buddy plays these and he's pretty chill 95% percent of the matches. What aspect of the game makes people tweak?

I think it's the time investment plus seeing all your hardwork undone because some dude doesn't know what items to buy, has no items, or just generally has no clue how to play and doesn't say anything until it's too late.
The game has 3 stages, laning phase/early game, mid game and late game.
I could win early game but because our late game hero is noob we end up losing (here is where the rage begins).
Or the late game hero is doing well but everyone else is just feeding the other team early game (again another rage point).
It's alot of things I'd say but to me I only get kinda ticked when we can win, but someone is just refusing to take advice and makes us lose.
Along with Guild Wars 2, Lineage Eternal and Diablo III, DOTA 2 seems the most suitable game to win the GOTY award 2012, imo. Is a polished, adictive game whih excels in both art and gameplay, and probably will follow the LoL business model, ensuring a broad availability being free to play. Combined with Steam in rampage ascend is an assured success.

Things likeyou listed seem like common occurences in every online game. Most of the things I've heard must have been overblown nonsense.
DoTA 2 hopefully is a bit more newbie friendly in its early beginnings, because I dearly want to try it out.
I'm pretty sure DOTA 2 won't be able to beat LoL in numbers at least. LoL is becomming a MONSTER in eports. It's breaking stream records at every event they have, beating starcraft 2 and all other games.
Dota 2 will be a awesome game, but the community will probably be filled with scumbags, seriously people rage hardcore in Lol and HoN, Dota 2 will face the same fate.
im in the beta and honestly im already bored with dota 2. it's really for those who are either noobs at the genre, or just cant let go of old school wc3 dota. LoL is much better. looking forward to see what blizz dota brings to the table.
As a huge E-Sports fan, DOTA (and all those kind of games) bores me to death, granted it's probably because i do not have a single idea of what is happening but i really don't have the patience nor the time to get into this genre.
To each there own I got bored of LoL and I'm only level 10 had the account almost since launch.im in the beta and honestly im already bored with dota 2. it's really for those who are either noobs at the genre, or just cant let go of old school wc3 dota. I'm not a hardcore MOBA player, but one of my good friends is. He said that a lot of the old-school DOTA fans aren't really happy with DOTA 2 because of the art style. Personally, I think it looks pretty cool but he's saying that fans dislike how difficult it is to distinguish champs from each other and how the art seems to "bleed" together.
Nah, it won't top LoL. Being F2P has made LoL so big its insane, it rivals Starcraft in competetive play. Maybe next year League of Legends will make MLG Pro Circuit!
Its a shame its such a weak esport in terms of actual playing than all of the mentioned.I'm pretty sure DOTA 2 won't be able to beat LoL in numbers at least. LoL is becomming a MONSTER in eports. It's breaking stream records at every event they have, beating starcraft 2 and all other games.

It has to do with the fact that sometimes it doesn't matter how solid your mechanics are, one scrub ruins it for all. In a FPS when someone scores a kill, they don't become stronger or more accurate because of it. Someone going 0-3 in a counterstrike match can still pull out a headshot and start contributing to the team. In MOBAs that isn't so. You can be a moron but if someone is an even bigger moron and feeds your carry easy kills, they can completely dominate team fights. Games can last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, sometimes even longer. The frustration of active communication, getting stuck with an idiot who is causing the team to lose the game and having to deal with them for 40 minutes can be just too much. Compound that with a F2P model and you get all sorts of jackasses.
[QUOTE="lulmont"]Yep probably the worst MP community out there--definitely in the top 5. Hey that's a great topic for SW. Worst MP community. lol yeah the dota community isn't really noob friendly. Do something stupid or mess up in game and prepared to be called out.You know so far in Beta at least not to bad, HoN and LoL are a lot worse and I never get mad I just laugh and play another match.
