Darksiders PS3 Review 8.0Bayonetta PS3 Review 8.0

Darksiders 360 Review 8.0Bayonetta 360 Review 9.0

GameSpot on Darksiders:

"there are some unfortunate graphical issues in the Xbox 360 version. Screen tearing is a huge problem that surfaces almost any time the camera is rotated, and it's bad enough to distract you even when you're just exploring. In addition, battles that get too big make the frame rate suffer, causing graphical slowdown. The PlayStation 3 version suffers neither of these issues."

GameSpot on Bayonetta:

"Though frame rate issues, frequent and extended load times, and less-crisp graphics make the PlayStation 3 version inferior to its Xbox 360 counterpart, it is nonetheless still a very enjoyable experience"

Is this not abit of a double standard on GS part?

This has already been asked many times and the answer is still the same, the PS3 Darksiders is better, but not by the same margin the 360 Bayonetta is better. Thats why there was no score difference.

If they're going to 'make a point' of 'pointing it out', then one would think that Darksiders PS3 should be an 8.5...

Are they reviewed by different people? Then it should be easy to tell why.

Mr. Anderson how could you!

I think the 1 point difference for Bayonetta was a silly move, IMO no score should be deducted from a game for it's graphics not being as good as another version, especially not when you're using a .5 scale. Even so, an 8.5 would've been a lot more reasonable.

This obviously means that the 360 issues of Darksiders aren't as bad as the PS3 issues of Bayonetta. That's it.

PS3 version of Bayonetta is still a great (AA) game, its just they feel the 360 version is better.

Like others say I dont think the darksiders differences warrant a lower score. At the end of the day Darksiders is still a great experience on either the PS3 or 360

Just by those quotes is easy to see that the differences in Bayonetta are significant while relatively minor in Darksiders. GS is not the only one, btw. A lot of sites gave the PS3 version of Bayonetta a lower score while giving the same to both versions of Darksiders.

With screen tearing supposedly a "huge problem", I'd expect a 0.5 difference. But I really hate screen tearing so maybe it's just me.

The biggest one is Ratchet and clank a crack in time. It imrpoves and refines almost every aspect of the game, adds in more game changing game mechanics since the original Ratchet and clank, and has revamped its graphic art style making some of the levels in the game look down right utterly amazing (Axiom City) but gets complained about being similar to the other ratchet and clank games. Then we have something like R&C Tools of Destruction which was by the numbers generic, and featured less game changing aspects. Was basically a rehash game in hd and got higher critical acclaim.

Oh, this stupidity isn't just for R&C series. FF13 will have lower scores than mass effect 2 even if ff13 is a better game in every way. I think of it as the most obvious 'you are an idiot fanboy' double standard in the game industry.

If you don't like the scores on a game review, rent it for yourself and draw your own conclusions. It's as simple as that. If you like the game, what do you care what Gamespot thinks? Likewise, if you hate the game and Gamespot loves it, what do you care?

I've not said GS is biased, Bayonetta on the 360 was obviously superior and deserved a higher score, I just think that if they should pick a formula and stick to it. if they are not going to rate accordingly they should not mention the differences, if they do mention the differences, that paints one version of the game superior it should be scored to reflect this.

Gamespot rated AC on both platforms 9.0 even though the ps3 version had issues that was not in the ps3 version.

it rates Dragon age higher on the ps3 & fallout higher on the 360 for slight differences, yet it goes back to rating darksiders the same when its obviously better on one console.

I think they need to reevaluate the way they review multiplat games.

I don't want to sound harsh, but I did not understand your post. What happened with RE5 and NSMBWii?

RE5 was not hurt by any standard, the game was just nowhere as good as RE4. And it came 3 years later, so its score is understandable. I have not played NSMWii, but the score seems to make a lot of sense.

Now back on ME2 and FFXIII, none of us has played it, nor have they been reviewed, so we have a huge lack of information for making any claim of bias regardless them.

NSMBWii got hated on for motion. That was silly. Also the 4 player complaint was silly. It wasn't a bad review though. RE5 deserved its score as well. I'm playing 4 now and its just way better. Granted RE5 is still awesome so I'm not bothered.

True, like i said they mention the differences it should be reflected in the scores, or just dont mention them and score both the same. However they should stick to one and do it all the time.

New super mario bros wii and new super mario bros ds have around the same gamerankings review score. However, everyone who played both games would say that new super mario bros wii is far superior to ds version in every way. The reviews state otherwise for idiotic fanboy prejudices. Same with ratchet and clank tools of destruction and Ratchet and clank a crack in time. The 2nd one is far superior artstyle, gameplay mechanics (the hover boots improve the platforming segments drastically) but has a lower score than R&C Tools of destruction. The reason isn't that games improve over time but more or less fanboy prejudices when X game in the franchise is released. Their review for the game was already made up before the game was even released.

Edge: "Despite the lack of ingenuity on display, NSMB Wii's thrash of four players does bring uproarious anarchy to the sofa for short periods of time. [Dec 2009, p.86] -7. Main complaint lack of originality

"ODST doesn't quite take Halo into unfamiliar territory, but it does show how robust and adaptable the core of the game is – and, more importantly, stands on its own two feet as a spin-off that's better than the vast majority of original games." -9. Main compliment lack of originality.

Reviewers usually rate down a version only when the difference is big enough to justify such a drop. For ACII and Darksiders it was not, for Bayonetta it was. IronBass

How can Screen tearing that is bad enough to distract a player & framerate issues that arn't in the PlayStation 3 version not be a big enough issue to drop the score on the 360?

Ask the reviewer. Or better said, the multiple reviewers from various sites that gave both versions the same score.

New super mario bros wii and new super mario bros ds have around the same gamerankings review score. However, everyone who played both games would say that new super mario bros wii is far superior to ds version in every way. The reviews state otherwise for idiotic fanboy prejudices.

Standards. Almost everybody think Fallout 3 is better than Oblivion, but it scored less. It's something relatively common.

To me it looks more like the reviewer has a different opinion than yours. Unless you can prove that the reviews were made up.

That's something common, too. Two games can have the same flaw, but still one can be better than other. An example, lived by myself: My only complaint about Prince of Persia, Batman AA and Assassin's Creed is how repetitive they are. But I still think that Batman AA > PoP > AC.

You are trying to judge reviews from an "objective" point of view, which is impossible since reviews are extremely subjective.

[QUOTE="anthonydwyer"]

[QUOTE="IronBass"] Reviewers usually rate down a version only when the difference is big enough to justify such a drop. For ACII and Darksiders it was not, for Bayonetta it was. IronBass

How can Screen tearing that are bad enough to distrac a player & framerate issues that arn't in the PlayStation 3 version not be a big enough issue to drop the score on the 360?

Ask the reviewer. Or better said, the multiple reviewers from various sites that gave both versions the same score.

Why would I ask other review sites about the issues that Gamespot have highlighted with the game?

Ive used Gamespot review & Gamespot quotes, I am talking about GS inability to stay consistent with how they review multiplatform games - I am not talking about GS being bias.

You don't know as to what extend the screen tearing a frame rate was. After playing Bayonetta, I could see how dipping framerate could really kill the experience, but I haven't play darksiders so I can't say.

Then reviews should be subjective instead of have these dumb double standards. State why the game isn't fun. It is like complaining about harry potter 7th movie because it is the 7th movie in the franchise. Saying something like aren't people getting old of harry potter dumb? I think so. But gaming reviews don't need to write cohesive reviews.

The difference in Darksiders was probably only a .1 difference in score or whatever, so with Gamespot's system, it wasn't shown. However they probably thought that Bayonetta's faults on PS3 were great enough to get annoying and let down the overall experience enough to make a large change in score.

360 Darksiders has occasional screen tearing and framerate dips.

PS3 Bayonetta has severe slowdowns, washed out textures, and long loads for everything from picking up an item to pausing the game.

But yea otherwise it's a total double standard!
