I am not normally one for collector's editions....not even for the games I am anticipating the most. However, Dragon Age is going to have one that is actually worth it...at least to me. Including a bonus item for Mass Effect 2. Here is what all will be included for 74.95 and a link to a picture of the collector's edition box art from Gamestop-

The Dragon Age Origins Collector's Edition comes with:

Tin Case

Bonus DVD including:

A making of documentary

Soundtrack

Trailers

Wallpaper

Concept art video

Strategy tips.

Cloth Map

3 pieces of exclusive in-game content:

Bergens Honor

Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes

Final Reason

Additional In Game Content

"The Stone Prisoner" unlockable bonus quest and unlockable character, Shale

An unlockable item for Mass Effect 2

Get an exclusive in-game item for use in the upcoming title Mass Effect 2

Reserve Dragon Age Origins and receive these in-game items:

The GameStop Exclusive Feral Wolf Charm - With this charm, hunters claim that they are enchanted on moonlit nights by scantily clad witches deep in the heart of the Korcari Wilds. As if that's not enough, the charm also adds to your armor and increases your health regeneration.

The Memory Ring - Allows your character to accumulate experience points at an accelerated rate and level up more efficiently.

Available for online and in-store customers while supplies last.

Online Customers: A unique code to unlock the Memory Ring and Feral Wolf Charm will be emailed to you when your game ships.

In-Store Pickup / Store Customers: A rave card containing a code for the Memory Ring and Feral Wolf Charm will be available at time of purchase.

Nice collector's edition, I would've enjoyed a Mass Effect 2 demo more then items though.. But it's still solid.

Yep, you and me both. I would pay 15.00 extra just for the bonus in game items and Mass Effect 2 content alone. The rest is just candy.....good candy at that.

Does anyone else hate bonus in-game content in collector's edition? If they continue manufacturing the game after release, great, if they don't, please. I could care less. I won't even buy this game on the basis that I have to buy the collector's edition to get the entire game. They won't even continue manufacturing it. The only way you'll be able to get one is to pre-order it. What a waste. Dragon Age can **** ** ***.

I honestly think the BioWare Doctors are teasing the PS3 crowd with this, but will ultimately release it on PS3. At least I hope so, One less game to purchase for PC.

Those asking about the PS3 version, here-

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=75493

As you can see, it has all the goodies minus the Mass Effect 2 bonus, lol. It is only listed with the PC/360 versions, as should be expected. I had originally planned on picking up the PS3 version, however, this changes things. 360 version for me.

Definitely getting the regular version for PC. Don't really see the big deal with the ME2 cd. I thought the first one was a very average game. Good main quest and terrible side quests. Main quest was also a bit too short.

I prefer sitting in my chair DS3 in hand and playing games as opposed to using KB/M. I just like the simplicity in gaming on a console. Pick up controller Press PS Button, Press X, Game. Also I don't really keep up with Windows and PC anymore since I mostly use my Macbook Pro for computing.

Kind of similar. I just don't feel "right" most games on PC. Sure, I play TF2, L4D and a great deal of others, but something just doesn't feel good about it to me. Another reason is that DA:O specs are insane :P

Odd how the PC version is supposed to be the king over all versions and with heavy mods available doesn't get the collectors edition as an option. I already got this PC version preordered but would have without hesitation canceled and switched to the CE version... so why don't we get this option on the best version of the game?

anyways PC version for me all the way.

The PC does have a collector's edition for 64.99. I just provided a link to the 360 version. Go look it up, if you wish.

Aaaannnnnddd Collector's Editions keep getting dumber by the second. Seriously, if DVDs had the same geek curve as games, we'd be getting Bose home theatre systems with each purchase of The Dark Knight on Blu-ray.

I really think this idea of maturity in games is having a complete opposite effect.... (especially compared to compelling small experimental mods)

Hell, at least Mass Effect's was tasteful (even if it was awkwardly forced (well for my character at least - right out of nowhere).

Opinions will vary, lol. One of the more packed offerings I can recall. Featuring extra in game content, a quest, an unlockable character, plus all of the extra goodies as well, which is just a bonus if you ask me. I suppose throwing in an extra unique item for Mass Effect 2 is "dumb" as well, aye? Pretty smart move if you ask me. Again, though, to each their own.

Can't say I didn't chuckle. Sounds a bit...off, putting it gently then,

Unsurprisingly she's upset at our bedroom antics, and protests. But not with any vigour or passion, but rather damply complains that it's not particularly nice of us to go sleeping with other women right in front of her. Acknowledging that she can't necessarily stop us from sleeping around, she meekly asks that we either stick just with her, or have the grace to break up with her as we continue our conquests. We choose to tell her that we love her really. She immediately capitulates and welcomes us back into her arms, before you've washed the smell of the last woman off you. So romantic! Here my notepad reads, "Pathetic."

The fact that it's packed is what I call dumb.

Back in 2004, for an extra $10 you could get a Halo 2 Limited Edition Collector's tin with a making-of DVD. Halo 2 was pretty much the only game in its time that had such a thing as a Limited Edition with special packaging, for a mere extra $10. Let me remind you again, that the game was Halo 2, like the biggest game of a million years back then.

Cut to 2009, every Tom, Dick and Harry game has not just a Collector's Edition, but a Supercalifragilisticexpialadotious Edition. They come with lunchboxes, figurines, cloth maps, pig skins, halloween costumes, night vision goggles, AK47's... seriously video game industry wtf. What's Starcraft 2 going to come out with? Real life pet zergs?

Sure, someone's going to retort "you don't have to get it", but the fact of the matter is, it's hilarious.

Well whatever. Brb guys, off to stick on my collector's edition Tomb Raider: Underworld butt cheek tattoo.

Well, maybe I am just the type who is not overly picky over such things. While I can understand the concern from a certain viewpoint, it certainly is nothing that will take away from the game from my perspective. I think it is also important to note this part of the article before getting too worried-

"I want to stress once more, the above depicts only the few minutes we were shown, and there's no way of knowing how it reflects on the overall game."

Regardless, I think the signs are clearly already starting to manifest that this is simply going to be one of those 50/50, love it/hate it games. As for myself, I find my self loving it, not because of "teh sex and gorez" either, lol. Western dark fantasy RPG's is my favorite genre by far and Bioware is one of my favorite devs. The game just comes off as nothing short of epic to me.

Yeah, Dragon Age doesn't look mature. Apart from the gameplay, the entire presentation seems quite immature.

Also, that 'romance' subplot, if you can call it that, sounds rather awful.

Oh of course of course. But yeah as I said, from what I have read - being that - its pretty shoddy - I imagine the game itself will be good; and perhaps the romance elements will be better.

FrozenLiquid

LOL, like I said in the first post, I NEVER buy collector's editions. Mainly for reasons you just listed and that they usually consist of items that are useless or border on the ridiculous. This just happens to be one of the rare occasions that I can actually justify paying an extra 15.00 for extra in game items alone.

Yes, they should be in the game, I completely agree. Beings we are in the era of DLC and having to pay for extras in general, though, this is one of the RARE occasions where a collector's edition is actually appealing to me. Believe me though, I completely agree that the in game items should be included in the game. However, those days are simply long gone.

Yeah, Dragon Age doesn't look mature. Apart from the gameplay, the entire presentation seems quite immature.

Also, that 'romance' subplot, if you can call it that, sounds rather awful.

FrozenLiquid

Yeah it doesn't exactly look mature as far as presentation goes (and marketing) - for better or worse - guess its debatable, and as for the subplot, hopefully its better in the final build.

I'm not picking on this game in particular, and neither was I singling you out. I'm commenting on the industry in general. It's just completely absurd.

Ubisoft are releasing both Assassin's Creed II and Splinter Cell: Conviction in these totally hardout collector's editions and to me it's so unnecessary.

I can understand a game like Starcraft 2 getting the whole limited edition treatment. But for new IPs, or IPs which have yet to achieve record breaking success? Ugh, it really annoys me.

In that regard CE make quite a nice amount of extra profit apparently. The actual 'exclusive' content within them is so cheap to manufacture (or in case of digital content it can be essentially development leftovers), even a $10 markup on a game can mean a nice extra profit margin.

So every publisher under the sun seems to think their IPs should get such treatment.

Its all pretty stupid, true, but now and again there are some very fine Collectors Editions - The Witcher for example (the art book in particular is great).
On that note Half Life 2's was one of the worst... even if the box is great. Ugh, look no further than that as a perfect example of cheap products, extra price. Oh well at least the game came on a DVD in a jewl case... not in paper sleeves...... ugh.

Hey what's that? It's Bioware taking my money in return for something awesome! I am probably going to get this.

They do and that's the problem I find. The only reason a lot of CE's seem to be made is because of the profit you can reap off them, and the actual stuff you get shows. I find a lot of it disposable, really. The best one's that have come from this generation I think are Bioshock's and both Halo 3 special editions. They may not have had the most extra content of games who have had similar treatment, but I feel like they meant something. Maybe it's got something to do with.... 'love', lol.

Speaking of Half-Life 2, I'm really looking for a boxed version of that game. I can't find it anywhere.
