Dragon Ball FighterZ is a really boring game.

I've barely had it for a week and I'm already tired of it. It's not a game I care about getting good at. I haven't played a fighting game since MK9 and to be honest, I haven't given a shit about DBZ since I was a kid. I guess when I saw this game I was immediately captivated by its artstyle and reminded me how there was never a good DBZ game growing up. The things that genuinely stink up this game are as follows:

- Horrible story and dialogue

- Stupid looking characters

- Annoying combos that go on forever

- Bulma's grandma voice

- Seizure inducing colors

- Lack of balance in characters; I would just pick that new SSJ Goku

- Krillin

It’s a fighting game. The only point that even matters is point number 3. Rest is unimportant.

Not really my thing, alt. Doesn't mean it's bad, just prefer SF and KOF to the lesser extent. Arc games are very offensive and fast, where as SF is more like methodical fencing.

Lack of balance in characters? Goku blue isn't even top tier my dude. Sounds like you're just not into fighting games.

Not to mention that the game may possibly be added to fighting tournaments, which means it has pretty even character balance. I haven't played it, but it looks like a pretty good game.

And a lack of story in a fighting game? Is there a fighting game with a good story? Lol

Why do you expect a good story in Dragonball? for christ sake the franchise has NEVER had good story's....

To be fair, some characters.

Goku for example, looks "Derpy" as hell from many angles, especially in cutscenes.

It's just the way his Face is ... especially as a Super Saiyan and talking to someone. In gameplay its an amazing engine, but some of the cutscene angles are cringe.

i don't remember a dumb cat and a blue goku being in DBZ. also, some of the characters i used to think were cool actually have shitty designs. Like Cell.

The majority of what you're bitching about are regular things that DBZ is known for. Although, the extremely long combos part *does* sound bad. I always hated long combos because they make it easy to be cheap.

I'm actually just starting to get into DBZ Kai. First couple episodes. Brings back good memories. It's campy as fvck and I think that's the point. It was never a franchise meant to be taken super-seriously.

That's because this is NOT Dragon Ball Z! This is Dragon Ball Super which is the sequel from DBZ and Goku's blue hair is his Super Saiyan God form which he obtain from Battle of Gods movie leading to Super. Stop living in Dragon Ball Z and get on with the latest series that is Super.

You know what OP, I totally agree with you! Fighting games sucks and dbz is a horrible show! So smartly I didn’t buy the game... not sure why you did buy it and expected anything else than disappointment?

I honestly don't know what you were expecting I mean it's a fighting game and all fighting games tend to get boring after the first week

I don't play fighting games at all but Dragon Ball Fighter Z looks like it ticks all the boxes that make them popular.

Fighting games in general are boring.

Super Saiyan God form has Goku's hair being red, which was obtained in Battle of Gods. The blue hair form is Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, also known as Super Saiyan Blue and he obtained that in Resurrection 'F'.

@DragonfireXZ95: Soul Calibur 2 had some surprisingly elaborate back stories for all the characters, stages, and weapons. It was pretty neat.

eh i only spent $35 on it.

Sure, Soul Calibur was better than most when it came to backgrounds of characters, but the actual story was an average He-man story, or perhaps Thundercats even with the sword. It wasn't anything special.

@DragonfireXZ95: Oh, sorry, I wasn't trying to argue that it was GOOD. Just that it had extensive lore and what not. Mind you, I haven't played SCII in years and I was really young when I first played it, so maybe it hasn't aged as well as my mind thinks it has.

DBZ was like the MCU of anime. The story is nothing to write home about, but what made it popular were the generally well-written characters and the insane action scenes.

Fight games in general tend to be hit or miss with me. I have both injustice games and even those i can only play in 15-30 min spurts once a month or so

And it's why Dragon Ball Z is popular here in the West and even to this day, it's the only Anime that the Western likes this Anime, DBZ (and now Super) had insane battle action scenes of it's time.

The only good story I can say was Saiyan saga to Freiza saga. Android/Cell saga was kinda weak compare to previous saga. I'm just glad they got rid of Garlic jr saga to say the least during Kai.

Yeah i get bored with fighting games real fast. Used to be my JAM as a kid. I think I put 20 hours into smash bros Wii U somehow.

There are quite a few other popular mainstream anime in the West. But DB is definitely the biggest "shounen" anime in the West. Its over-the-top action scenes were revolutionary, and you can see the influence of its action style in plenty of anime and Hollywood productions to this day. There was also DB's episodic format, where almost every episode ends on a cliffhanger, which was almost unheard back then (at least in the West).

I'd have to disagree about the Android/Cell saga. I thought its storytelling was stronger than both the Saiyan saga and the Namek/Freeza saga. But all three sagas had generally good stories. It's the Buu saga that had bad storytelling. And so did the Garlic Jr saga, though that's not canon (hence its removal from Kai).

Budokai 3 on ps2 was excellent

So Tc you bought a game in a genre you don't like in a series you don't like which you don't like to look at or listen too? I guess you're the problem then. Why did you buy it in the first place?
