I'm torn. I like the visual design of the GW2 dragon more, but I feel that the DD dragon act's and move more like a dragon. I just enjoy how it rampages across the battlefield, versus the Shatterer which seemed to be locked in place save for a few specific animations.

But... the difficulty
I think I'll just go back to Monster Hunter for a bit :P Btw, in the second video the developer's were talking about dynamic scaling. Do you know if that was implemented in the Shatterer fight as well? It seemed to have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of players. Hopefully they're still tweaking whatever algorithm they're using.

I dunno, the DD dragon seemed pretty spry. Course, with all the fancy camera transitions, it might have been an illusion anyway,

dark souls isn't nearly as hard as people make it sound. it's all about being patient. as for the scaling, it happens for the shatterer too. that shatterer video is from 2010, a lot of the game mechanics changed since then. the scaling happens on any event, and depending on it it can mean more enemies, tougher enemies, or in the case of bosses, they get tougher AND unlock different attacks depending on the amount of players. mass beta testing only started now, they're tweaking a crapload of stuff, including the event scaling. After watching a lot of videos Dragon's Dogma actually looks pretty good. The combat looks awesome and there are a good variety of different enemies. Wish I had a PS3 to play it
It's like Dark Souls meets God of War meets Monster hunter.

Played up til Blighttown, then had a falling out with my gf whose PS3 I was using to play it (Cool now though). Considering the things I've heard about the framerate in Blighttown, I'm in no rush to get back. I actually really enjoy challenging games :P
But that's good to hear. My roommate has gotten me on the GW2 hype train. I'm hoping it doesn't disappoint - my track record with MMO's isn't too bright.
it's worse when you get to play it. clunky, overcomplicated controls, cluttered UI + close camera keep you from seeing much of the combat, and the ally NPCs keep repeating the same 3 obnoxious lines. shame, because like you said, it looks cool. had they fixed controls (and maybe made all cIasses appealing... the warrior/fighter/whatever dude is just lame to play as), cleaned the UI, and backed the camera away a little, it would've been great. After watching a lot of videos Dragon's Dogma actually looks pretty good. yeah blighttown is kinda lame and has some framerate hiccups, but missing out on the rest of the game because of it is just wrong. GW2 is about as good of a starting point as you can get, since it ditches many of the MMO conventions in favor of logical improvements that are often akin to single player games. if you buy it now you can take part in the beta weekend events, which, despite still having plenty of beta issues, is ridiculously fun to play.[QUOTE="seanmcloughlin"]it's worse when you get to play it. clunky, overcomplicated controls, cluttered UI + close camera keep you from seeing much of the combat, and the ally NPCs keep repeating the same 3 obnoxious lines. shame, because like you said, it looks cool. had they fixed controls (and maybe made all cIasses appealing... the warrior/fighter/whatever dude is just lame to play as), cleaned the UI, and backed the camera away a little, it would've been great. After watching a lot of videos Dragon's Dogma actually looks pretty good. The HUD is annoying to look at even on videos. It's so extremely cluttered with button commands that shouldn't be there and subtitles for everything popping up, granted they could probably be disabled. But most RPGs have repeating lines anyway. Skyrim is king of this. I can get over that. But yeah the camera did seem to go places and get stuck stopping you from seeing anything.
One thing I love is the ability to jump and grab any enemy and slash away, it seemed very organic and SOTC-esque.
It's not that hard to make a game better than Skyrim. The game is full of shallow, unrefined mechanics wrapped in a shiny exterior. Combat, crafting, and everything in between are extremely lackluster in Skyrim. The only thing fleshed out in TES games is the "world" and even then, you have people complaining about hearing the same voice actors in every town.Fossil-
Skyrim is an extremely shallow game. I used to love it when I started playing it but after 100 hours it gets very tiresome to play. There is so much emptiness in the world. Towns aren't all that populated for their size and outside of them you run into almost no one, unless it's bandits at yet another cave or abandoned lookout.
It's all flash and no substance. It gets by on its scale and the mods that people made for it. It's literally the only reason people love it and have put so much time into it

Quality of time spent playing is better than the Quantity of time spent playing
I found myself bored a lot of the time because what I was doing was the same stuff over and over. Only reason I lasted that long playing it was due to wanting to finish the story and mods.
I put less than half of that in The Witcher 2 and it was a much more full and enriching experience.
I don't know... Doesn't look that impressive to me actually.
Sure, in terms of animations, scale and effects it does look better than Skyrim's dragon fights, but otherwise this dragon looks way too scripted for my liking. I mean in Skyrim, the dragons looked more responsive and more involved in what was going on around them - they actually tried to focus on particular targets, including the player, and more powerful attacks affected their behaviour dramatically - they retracted their heads or wings when they were hit or tried to fly away, etc. Not to mention all the fights with other local creatures.
This guy on the other hand doesn't seem to mind many of player's / NPCs' attacks and many of his own look more like general attacks of particular area rather than attacks directed at specific targets. Not saying this type of gameplay is worse, but personally I think that I would have more fun experimenting with Skyrim's dragons than with this one.
Skyrim dragons became more of a nuisance than anything else.Yes, it looks good. Skyrim dragons were pretty sad, if I remember correctly I didn't even have to use a potion on the last boss.

Damn, that Ur-Dragon looks awesome. The scale of enemies in Dragon's Dogma is very impressive. It's too bad Bethesda couldn't have added enemies in Skyrim that were anything that that.
Skyrim is a great game, but man, one of the game's selling points, the dragons, were such a disappointment to me. They were all the same size, just tiny whelps in dragon terms by most fantasy game standards. I understand Bethesda's challenge in creating dynamic dragons that could interact with Skyrim's world, but it still would've been nice if they could've just made some dragon's in some areas more... impressive.
I just hope that Skyrim's DLC adds some more enemies in general to the game. It really needs more variety in type and scale. Anyway, really looking forward to Dragon's Dogma. I hope Capcom really knocks it out of the park with this game!

Yes :) I killed 2-3 and then just tried to run away whenever I met them, cause they were boring ...
^ You can remove the Hud and everything, i did this too in the demo once i learned the controls, now all i have on screen is the Map and Health, game looks cleaner that way, and jumping on griffen and kicking its ass is satesfying and you can jump off it and you have a cool animation when you fall.TheGuardian03That's good to know, but the camera is still too close to the character and the controls are still clunky and overcomplicated. Plus needing a specific cIass and a two button combination to just dodge is stupid, to say the least.

Maybe that keeps it from being a great game, but in the end you're still getting a ton of entertainment out of it. Quantity over quality, of course, but that's the nature of an open-world game.

The thing that annoyed me the most is how weak they are. Your hear them coming and you don't even worry.
With that perk that gives daggers a x15 attack damage, if you sneak attack one of those sleeping dragons in their lairs with a somewhat powerful enchanted dagger, in ONE HIT you not only kill it, but throw it in the distance... this is ridiculous, such an immersion-breaker IMO...
But don't get me wrong I still LOVE Skyrim... 297 hours of gameplay and counting...

It's funny, Skyrim had me hooked for about 30 hours, which is far more than many games can even dream of managing. Of course, it wasn't enough to sustain me to finish the main quest, or do any more of the sidequests. It's partly due to the fact that the actual gameplay is not that engaging. Skyrim is great at a macro level, and I enjoyed it for that. Once the honeymoon phase was over, and it needed to rely on its mechanics, that's when we had to part ways. Waiting for mods to go back into Skyrim again.[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"][QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"]
