Dreamcast was released in North America on 9/9/99, so do you think Sega will announce a new console for 9/9/09? Maybe we'll hear something during the summer.

Anyway, it would be a smart move for Sega, considering Sony is on the backburner, and Microsoft is starting to lose sales.

Would never happen. Too many economic issues in the world today and SEGA's recent releases have all been.... lackluster. Besides, being a late fourth entrant into the console race would be a disaster.

If it was announced now it wouldnt be a late entrance, it would be launched for next gen. Probably like 2011.

They could do a limited run of Dreamcast again and reprint some of their first party titles from back then, but they'll never make a new console.

If the Dreamcast 2 is announced to release at 9/9/09, there'll be a second great flood ... except this time, the waters will be white.

Smart? As in, there's not enough consoles on the market... adding a new one is smart?

When did Dreamcast become some sort of messiah, that's prophesied to make a divine second coming? :|
Sega re-entering the console race has got to be the most persistent urban myth of all time now.

Says a guy who started gaming in 1995...Probably never even held a Genesis controller. The Dreamcast had better games than the Ps2, like Powestone and RE:CV, Soul Calibur, and alot others too long to list. The only appeal to the Ps2 is GoW.

Not likely since they seem to be doing ok with their game development. Valkyria chronicles and their other various titles are pretty good at least imo.

However they likely would not be able to compete with the big 3 console makers even next gen.

What exclusive games would they get ? Sonic games are on multipatform and its all around garbage so sega would be wasting money by creating another flop console.

Maybe a Tails Adventure Game. Or they can pick up the Powestone Series and that'll revive it.

Sorry dude I owned a genesis, Snes and Nes WTF do you expect? I'm only 19 I wasn't born with a controller when I came out my mother's womb. Also as for the dreamcast yes it had some good titles I still play my DC till this day. Yet I know for a fact the DC libeary isn't as good as te PS2 libeary IMO. The PS2 had SC2,3 (better than SC1), a better port of RE:VC, Power Stone was that great. Also if GoW the only title you can think of? The PS2 has ICO, SotC,MGS2,MGS3 and do I really have to go on?

The dreamcast is vastly overrated. I would like to see a new sega console, but there are already too many models on the market. 3 is enough.

Furthermore, I highly doubt it would be called "dreamcast 2." The dreamcast was as much a failure to them as the saturn, especially when it was the system that lost them their play in the console market.

Code Veronica is on the PS2 just like many other Dreamcast games are on other systems. This is coming from someone who owns a dreamcast and a saturn.

Sony and Microsoft are electronics powerhouses, neither are going to leave Dreamcast 2 would come in as a fourth console, a suicidal move financially and considering that Sega is miles behind any of the big three in raw capital It would not be a smart move, It would be idiocy Also how can you want the people who butchered one of the worlds most beloved video game icons several times over, to launch an entire console? Its ludicrous!

That's a wishful thinking + Sega doesn't have the money to produce a mass production of consoles with current gen or next generation hardware.

I hope this helps:

Sega denied rumors that they would be getting back into hardware manufacturing of videogame consoles.

Senior Sega US spokesman Charlie Scibetta clarified the situation by explain that the company "has no plans to get back into the console business because it's very happy being a platform agnostic company."

If they were going to do anything they'd have made a portable based on the DC hardware about 7 years ago.

Ain't no console coming out of Sega now, MS took their crown and ran with it.

Sega is the 4th largest game maker in Japan, so they are still a major player, though nowhere near as big as they were back in the 90s.

What GPU going to power the console? Current Wii,XBOX360, PS3 consoles already powered by top PC GPU "green team" vendors i.e. AMD/ATI and NVIDIA.

Japan: Nintendo, Capcop, Sony? Sega doesn't compare. Japan is not as important as it was.

It's sorta already launched in the form of a 360. :P

I remember picking up my DC on 9-9-99 - sweet system and a unfortunate end.

Yeah that would be an awesome idea! Especially since Sega has had nothing but good games lately and a superb future for their key franchise. Oh and I almost forgot, the fact that most of their games are going to the Wii only a few months isn't exactly a big deal. I think that Sega would actually stand a chance if they were ever to develop a small things such an worldwide cutting edge console. NO ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, EVER.

nope, SEGA learned their lesson as far as hardware is concerned. SEGA in all of its history, have never..... ever won a console war, EVER. Sega Master System- shat on by NES Genesis- shat on by SNES GameGear-shat on by GameBoy lol Saturn - slaughtered brutally by the PlayStation Dreamcast - murdered by the PlayStation 2 theres no way in hell they would jump back into the hardware market during a worldwide economic recession, when they couldnt even hold their own during the friggin gaming renaissance era. that and their mascot franchises, and pretty much all of their software franchises have been bastardized

Wouldn't be a good idea and they aren't stupid enough to do it. Back when Isao Okawa was alive, when Sega failed he would bail them out. He's dead now. If Sega tries to make another console their share holders will pull the rug from under them before they even get done with saying what the name of the new console is.

With what money would they do that? If they somehow magically did it, i expect it to flop harder than the Saturns and Dreamcasts flopping put together. And what about the games TC? There are no devkits, and things like launching a console needs hype, we havent heard anything, not even wet fanboy dreams.

Won't happen. Sega is only a fraction of a size of any of the 3 major companies. Not only that but 3 consoles have the market flooded, especially with the economic state we are in.

lol bump

If there was a new Dreamcast coming, we would have heard actual rumors about it. It would be a heroic effort to keep a major console launch completely quiet up until the month of its release. Or announcement, whatever is supposed to happen.

That's beside the fact that it would be one of the dumbest moves in the history of the video game industry.
