Dreamcast died because of the hype of the ps2, which was created by the immense popularity of the original playstation. Personally, I think comparing the two consoles is pretty fair. The Dreamcast had a library with more unique games, and in most genres--if you were to take the very best the system had to offer--the games were comparable, and often times exceeded, to those of the ps2.
-The Dreamcast had a list of quality fighting games.
----I was going to say Powerstone gave Dreamcast the upper hand here, but I believe it was eventually ported to ps2
-There are no games like Sonic Adventure on ps2
-There are no games like SHENMUE on ps2--here, Dreamcast had quite a few quality rpgs, but also ones that broke off the genre a bit--innovation. Shenmue is a game that has had quite a bit of influence on a lot of the popular genres, now.
-Dreamcast was the BEST machine for 2D fighters. Fact.
-Dreamcast still contained the "old school" aspect of having top-down shooters and other dying genres.
-Seaman-->now, like the game or not, the reason this is a positive is that time and time again the dreamcast stressed innovative game design.
-2k sports series was far better than madden at this time.
*******the only real area the dreamcast suffered was the first person shooter genre.
