Which console is better?
I beleive the Dreamcast is better because of the online play and the arcade fighters.

PS2 had way, way more online games than Dreamcast and most all of those PS2 online games had voice chat. The DC only had Voice for one DC title, Alien Front online. I know my DC inside and out, I was apart of Seganet.
The arcade fighters, I can understand, except the PS2 had more of those too (many were DC ports, plus more).
Still, I love my DC.

I can understand if you think the DC is better than the PS2, but the actual reason's you posted seems like you didn't know much about the PS2 and unfairly compared that to the Dreamcast.
The Playstation obliterates any console that has ever existed in the market by a landslide, the only console that comes close to the first PS is the SNES. AgentA-Mi6What about the PS2?
I think the hardware of the PS2 was a bit more powerful, but the Dreamcast only had a few developers who were actually getting the most out of Sega's machine. I remember how bad certain games looked, then how good games made by Capcom looked. Resident Evil Code Veronica, Powerstone 1 & 2, and Marvel vs Capcom 1 & 2 all looked outstanding! I also liked the way Alone in the Dark was presented on the Dreamcast as well. So to me it seemed that a lot of developers jumped ship in favor of Sony's monster, therefore leaving Sega to its 1st party developers, while brilliant, they weren't enough to keep them going. I went with Dreamcast and jumped to the Xbox, and got my PS2 a little late. So while I preferred my Dreamcast back in the day, its a no-brainer to say that the PS2 dominated it, especially with the library of titles that came out, and are still out.RIP Dreamcast.

AgentA-Mi6No, not really when it come to the Ps3. In sales the Wii demolishes it and in games even if you don't think the Xbox 360 is better than it then you can say that it at least comes close to it.
Pound for pound (or game for game) the best console I ever owned. It was the anti-shovelware-- everything on the shelf was a potential buy.
Yeah, but in that short life span in produced a large amount of quality games comparable to the PS1. Lifetime =/= QualityHmm lets see how long did the Dreamcast last? Oh thats right... looks like Playstation is the better of the two.

It didn't just lack games, a lot of the new IPs felt too arcadey for the home market. Quality though it was, Crazy Taxi was not a long term game. Neither was Virtua Tennis. Sega built their reputation on arcade games, they felt that a home console should reflect that, but you need the games to be more at home. Shenmue though, tried to balance it out by being way toooo in depth. I work in an office adjacent to a warehouse. I don't need to come home after a long day only to work on my dreamcast, frustratingly. I loved both of the Shemue games, but I'd take the jobs out of them in a second.I had both, but PS1 was MUCH better. Frankly, the Dreamcast lacked games and that's what it's all about.

Ragnarok1051What about the PS2? The Ps2 was great, but the console was built on the formula, franchises and progresses accomplished by the original PS1 developers, both first and third parties. The Original Playstation has no rival, everything we have now pales in comparison to the PS1, Including the Ps3.
psx was but i liked the N64 more. the PSX had so many great RPGs its sad how far the playstation brand has fallen from its rootssurrealnumber5The Playstation Brand or the Market as a Whole? As if the Wii or the 360 we're overflowing with RPGs devs are turned off by the software sales of everything that doesn't involve shooting in first person this generation, 12 years ago things were different. The Playstation Brand hasn't fallen from its roots if we think about it, we can't blame sony for the market trends.

VC is the best JRPG this generation, for consoles, but thats where the list ends for consoles this generation. i would buy a ps3 tomorrow if it had the next breath of fire game slated for it. sadly the tales games i have found worse then last generation and FF games just are not what they were. i could go on and on about other long dead franchise that i would like to see come back, but to the point again, i do not feel the ps3 is filling what niche is open to it in my house. surrealnumber5Ok, its your money, if you don't consider a Ps3 woth a Purchase for the JRPG and RPGs it has to offer im fine with it, I gain nothing if you buy it nor lose anything if you don't, the market is what it is right now, Shooters, Third person shooters and RPGs...featuring multiple shooting mechanics and shooter elements.
The Dreamcast was promising, but failed to build up a library comparable to the Playstation before it died.
