DS or PSP? (whats more hardcore)

DS if you plan on playing it a lot, with many different games.

PSP if you just want to pass the time occasionally with a couple quality titles.

DS is still best overall.

Which is more hardcore? As a jrpg lover I gotta go with the DS TBH.

Do your research. As someone who returned a system after a week I'd think you could do a bit of competent research before you ask a board of strangers.

Matters what you call "hardcore", the DS has quite a few Dungeon Crawlers, Roguelikes, and SHMUPs.. The PSP has pretty much the same.

DS

DS - great puzzle games and watered down platformers.

PSP - watered down action games.

Personally I like my psp a little better for the multimedia stuff, but if it was just down to the games I'd probably pick my ds. Mostly because on the go I prefer puzzle/sim games.

He'd recommend a GameBoy as he's a few decades too retro for this thread...though it'sprobably the best choice come to think of it. I probably spend more time on GameBoy games than I do on myDS or PSP...

IDK. But the Ds has more and bettergames.

nobody can truly reply to such question because it comes down to personal preferences in gaming... you should ask which handheld's games library do you prefare, that authomatically answers the main question (frequently) asked in these boards, which is the better handheld.. :)

I got a PSP, bought a DS to my gf last year and occasionally game on it but that only convinced me further that PSP (its games)is the better handheld for me..

I have never been a casual gamer. I bought a Wii due to all the hype but returned it for a PS3 after a week. I need a hand-held and am not sure on what to get. I don't care about multimedia features I have an iPhone for that, I am talking strictly in terms of games. DS looks kind of childish but it has a lot high rated games while the PSP has better graphics ( which is a big pro for me) but a lot of them are console ports which sucks because it's always going to be a watered down version. So can anyone who has both the PSP and DS can tell me which is better for strictly gaming regularly on? thanxgsgdvcbsa

What you need to realize is that artistic/graphic styling of a game does not automatically make it "kind of childish". For example, the popular TV series Family Guy. At first glance, it might seem like a cute cartoon that might appear on the Disney channel but after taking a swing at the dialogue in the show, you come to find out that it's definitely not what you expected. The reason the DS seems to lean toward more 2D and highly stylized titles is because it has different hardware than the PSP. In terms of video games, I feel like the DS has more quality titles than the PSP. I think Gamespot agrees? It seems you're more worried about whether you're going to look goofy playing something rather than which handheld would give you a better overall satisfaction.

on topic:TC, go with the ds. M&L:Bowsers inside story, LoZ:phantom hourglass/spirit tracks, metroid prmie hunters, mario kart ds, new super mario bros., the world ends with you... the ds is the best handheld.

the psp does have some good games though:

Daxter, gran turismo, locoroco, MGS:portable ops, then.......uhm.....:?

see, the problem is that the psp doesn't have enough games.

remember, these are the game sthat just came of my mind, so its not the entire list... but you get the idea....

DS is good only if you like jrpgs. PSP has lots of great, but overlooked games.

You are going to have to defined hardcore since many people have a different definition for that on here. As for what is the overall better handheld for gaming, it will ultimately comes down to your preference for each gaming library. Surely the DS have the overall better lineup in this case, but it won't mean much if you don't like the type of games that are on the DS.

I don't think there is such a thing as a hardcore system, I don't even think the term hardcore games/gamers should exist, but that is a discussion for another topic.

I think that if you are looking for a handheld with many other features besides playing games you should go for the PSP, however if your intention on getting one of those is purely for playing games than the DS is the best choice because of its superior library of extremely original titles.

I agree 100%. The PSP is way more hardcore.

DS. I have 3, and play my DSi every single day. I bought a PSP at launch, and completely regret it. The specs are good, but the games or just terrible.

Also, a DS is probably cheaper.

I'd personally go DS>Iphone>PSP for gaming.

Most good games for PSP are just remakes from PS1 and PS2, just like u said (except a few exclusives), but why pay $40 for Castlevania or FFT (that's what I paid when it first came out) when I can download the same games for $5.99 on the PS3. I'm not trying to be a hater, cause I love Sony, I', just being real. These are some of the good games I played for PSP in my opinion.
