I like playing games once in a while when I'm bored to pass the time. What system is best for a casual gamer?

DS. PSP is great but the fact that it has a battery life of about 3 hours and all its good games are on Ps2 makes it hard to recommend. DS has a lot of really fun, unique, great games- just don't expect as much graphical strength (or the ability to watch movies, and listen to music).

DS

PSP is for REAL GAMERS

Painballz

I don't know if I'd put it so bluntly. Sure, the PSP has a lot more games that take a lot of time (and thus can't really be played "on-the-go") but that isn't to say that DS also has its own fair share or hardcore games.

In fact, I'd argue that the DS has a larger library of "hardcore" games despite its large variety of "puppy simulators." Granted, I love both my PSP and DS, but I wouldn't flat-out say one is better.

I have both systems and i would say the ds. It has some fun casual games (nintendogs, etc) and some good hardcore games (advanced wars). best of both worlds ^_^

I would have to say DS. PSP has a lot of great games, and if you are think of getting into video games I'd actually say PSP. If you plan on staying a casual gamer than I'd say DS.

DS caters to both casual and hardcore better than PSP, imo.

I enjoy both but my DS gets alot more playtime overall.

DS for casual games. PSP feels like an actual console, which cuts the sense of being a portable. Both are great and imo both have the same number of good games, but PSP had the ones I wanted the most.

But if you are looking for quick sprees, go with the DS. PSP is more console-ish

Anyway for a causal gamer, I probably say the DS is a better choice, because the games are more easier to get into.

Regardless of the gamer you are, DS is just better. There I said it. It has a much greater library and seriously lacks the loading times of the PSP. PSP just isn't a pick-and-go type of thing sadly. I mean sure, the PSP has some games llike God of War but really, there just aren't enough. The PSP only wins (like someone above said) with pirates.

PSP is only good if you're a pirate and hack it and dl all the games, I wouldn't pay for a single PSP game since they all suck

DS has prime games.

The PSP can be great for casual gamers. Not for the games, but for the multimedia. Lets face it, as a casual gamer I won't be buying every new game that comes out, but knowing I can tranfer some Curb Your Enthusiasm, or movies, even music, is awesome with ZERO loading time.

I have both, and i gotta say,

The DS. I mainly use the psp for web browsing, The PSP games are too short and feels incomplete.

The games i got for the DS is mainly minigames or Pokemon, but i still enjoy them and it lives long too

get a cell phone if you like to play games on the go or off and on, then get a cell phone. it has a better games then both systems combined it fits in your pocket games are cheaper around $10 and has simple controls. ds and psp are for gamers who like their franchises like mario gta or god of war its not for casual gamers. this is from a guy who had both sold my ds the psp just had the better games and the ds was collecting lots of dust

DS I would say, it's got a broad of games for different styles and tastes.

Growing up playing GB/GBC/GBA I can't see myself playing any other handheld other than from nintendo.

The PSP is way more casual because it appeals to non gamers that like multi media functions. The battery only lasts for about three hours at best so you wont be able to play all day away from home, and graphics instead of game depth always appeal to the casuals.

welll usually casual gamers are more interested in the media functions. Often forgetting shortcomings of the system when they see better media. Im not saying the PS2 was bad but it also had alot of casuals.

I'd rather play a dumbed down port than a dumbed down game, like ooh I don't know, WarioWare, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, how do they even qualify as games, once lasts like 2 hours and the other 2 can only be played for 5 minutes a day before you want to stab yourself.

So you'd rather play a crappier version of a game you already own than a new game built for the system it's on

Exactly what I'd expect from a PSP owner. It's the System Wars equivelant of natural selection

Missinformation for the win. The PSP battery life is around 7 hours for playing games. And you can even buy batteries that double the lifespan. Anywas.

To the TC: The DS because it offers many mini games that really are funny with the stylus.

Actually the battery life is 3 to 6 hours (6 hours under optimum conditions) so he was right. And i'm sure you can uy batteries that double the lifespan, but you shouldn't have to.

The DS has a strong library of games still coming. The PSP developement is something I simply don't see developers pursueing very actively.

I'm not getting into the casual/hardcore debate as those terms have changed several times over the last few years to the point where hardcore often means obscure, and sometimes just "good game".

McManus107

The problem is you could list many ports from PS2 that many would say are casual, and many games for the DS that many would consider hardcore. If you can't resolve what those two terms mean then this thread is meaningless.

PSP and DS is more for obsessive gamers who cant go anywhere without gaming, i say
