it's teh same thing they just released, just a little bigger. And then the Lite and DSi were milking aswell. You don't need thirty-thousand different variations of a system. I wonder what Nintendo's response to the PSP Go 2000/PSP 4000 Dual-Release will be...

So by saying the PSP has a bigger screen are use also saying the PSP is bigger? I just trying to get an idea if that will fit in my picket because my PSP can. HarlockJCWell it should be quite thicker, from what I hear, Nintendo said it was pretty much so a whole family can see a game, or I suppose for those unable to see as well, it seems to lose a lot of its handheld aspect, seems to take up more surface area on each side of the DS too.
I still haven't purchased a DSi but I've been considering upgrading from my Lite. I think I'll wait for this to see how much bigger it actually feels in my hands. The size of the Lite is perfect for my small hands so I know DSi would be fine, but if the DSi XL can still feel comfortable I'll probably get it. It would have been nice if they could have somehow squeezed in the larger screens without increasing the size of the system though. Would have been a no brainer to get that over a regular DSi. It looks huge in that picture so I probably won't like it, but I figure I might as well at least feel it out and see if I like it.
Hmmm, I know this is hardly an update from DSi, but maybe I should be thinking about upgrading (I have the Lite).tagyhagI personally wouldn't until the dsi store starts getting some good games. Sure the screens and buttons are better..but it's hardly worth the cash if you already have a lite. And even then I wouldn't get the extra large version unless if you have Xbox huge pockets.

Who, then, is it milking? The word is tossed around frequently and has a multitude of definitions on SW, each one vaguer than the last. I would just like a clear-cut definition of what it is.BTW in Japan it is the DSi LL, and will be marketed towards the elderly who would obviously have trouble seeing the screen.

It's actually about the same size as the original DS (not anywhere near as wide though), and that is a comfortable fit in my hands. I may consider upgrading because I hate the feel of the DSi and Lite in my hands...

This isnt milking for a reason. Nintendo made a bigger version mainly for the older audience with a hard time seeing everything on the small screen.

Indeed, providing something for a different audiance doesn't effect the uninterested party... milking would be if they made DSiHUGE exclusive games, or something lame like that. It's good for people who like to play portable games at home, just as PSP Go was designed for people who are always on the move.
I don't mind these types of redesigns, because they're fairly harmless. They're not designed to make the old version outdated, they're designed to try and increase the brand's appeal to different audiences. It is a shame for anyone who bought a DSi already but would've preferred a big screen, though.
The DS Lite to DSi upgrade bothered me more.
Meanwhile, the PSP uses disc based media and is more powerful thant he DSi, so it actually benefits from the larger screen whereas it probably makes DS games look worse. ._.;

Again, the DSi LL was made with the older audience with trouble seeing the small screen in mind.

Of course, it won't just be marketed for the elderly. The press event seemed to indicate that they want to stress the improved internet surfing and music playing experience.[QUOTE="-Oath"]

I was referring to the comparison made in the title.
If this screen uses the same resolution as the previous DS's, wouldn't that just be like stretching a small picture and making it big, or does this screen have a higher res?
Inform me plox :P
The other interesting thing is price. Based off of the European and Japanese price tag, it looks like this version of the DS will probably sell for $199 - the same price as a Wii!
(PS: Yes, it will probably look a little uglier since the pixels will be larger. But it won't look as ugly as a stretched image, since the LCD screen will still have the same native resolution as the smaller version. I'm sure it'll look fine; even Gameboy Advance games looked fine when played on the big screen through the Gameboy Player.)
It's sort of like Sony and Nintendo are having a 'how many different versions of the same handheld can we bring out without actually making a new one' competition.angelkimne
xD
Sad part is this is actually true.

its meant for gamers who can't stand small screens and older people, it will sell side by side with the market leading DSi, for only $15 more.
I don't see it as redesign as much, well just adding more options
buy the one with 3.2inch screen for $15 less or the bigger one for $15 more

Wrong. DSi costs $205 in USD in japan, but sells for $169.99 in NA
DSi XL costs $220 USD in Japan, that would translate to $185 in NA.
i'd honestly expect DSi XL in NA for same price as current DSi in janurary,, and DSi regular for $150

FYI, if you want to use that logic, you can't just add $15 to both prices.Set up a Ratio 205/170 = 220/x. So theoretically, it should cost around $184. Coincidentally, your value is pretty close anyway. Just saying.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment. Its all up to how much profit Ninty wants to make. I doubt the DSi XL will cost more than $120 to make per unit
It will could happen for $179.99 i say that coz like the other poster pointed out it actually should be $184 but thats an odd price, 180 is a nice round number
$200 is likely to i guess, like i said its all up to Nintendo on how much profit they will sell
most importantly the DSi XL isn't replacing the DSi, they will be sold at the same time to give options to consumers, but will they drop the Lite since it sells less than the DSi? Having three options on market will be very confusing to consumers, methinks they will be dropping the Lite early next year

Thanks but did you just tell me i couldn't just add $15 and then tell me, that i was right when i added $15?
