Seriously, I dunno what Sony did here. Its much worse than the DS3 imo, my hands start hurting after a while, the shoudler buttons suck, the triggers are not triggers. I think only the sticks are better because they are a little far apart. Also where are my favorite start and select buttons? Seriously its a joke, you dont downgrade a controllers if you are going to update it. The GOAT is still the 360.

The controller is fine, user error sounds to be the culprit here.

Yeah shoulder buttons are too squishy and the battery life can't even last you through an average COD campaign.

But I like the d-pad and the triggers.

Since your hands hurt playing for a long period, you should take a break. Stop button mashing!!

One thing for sure is the battery sucks, to keep playing wireless you need two controllers.

It’s better than the Xbox controllers where you have to break your left thumb to play any game. Offset is the worst.

@stuff238: you break your thumb by having it in a more natural position? Interesting, guess you learn something new every day

@howmakewood: it's not a more natural position. It's the dumbest thing I've seen in the XBox controller design. Hands down my least favorite part. I'm convinced that the only people this works for are those with bigger hands - for people like me I have to torque my hands in order to get full range of motion. Absolute ass. The X1 controller is sublime if not for this - great build quality, love the rumble tiggers (although the shoulder buttons are cheap and the dpad blows too)

There's nothing wrong the controllers. Thumbsticks, on the other hand are crap. I mean, not the thumbstick itself, but those rubber caps which wear-out rather quickly.

The feel is an upgrade from Dualshock 3, but my god... that battery life. Don't know WTF Sony was thinking. The battery on Dualshock 3 used to last days and days, with the 4 it's just a few hours. The switch might last longer than the Dualshock 4 LOL.

Strange hands mine never hurt. I like it it just needs covers on the analogs and your set. The battery life is weak but just plug it in no big deal. Best controller imo.

DS4 is actually a really good controller and more comfortable than the previous PlayStation controllers which I thought was the best design available at their time. Here's how I rank the good controllers...

1. DS4

2. DS1,2,3 (basically the same)

3. GameCube

4. X360, X1 (basically the same)

5. Switch Pro

Wow that is bad, no wonder I always see my friends' and families' DS4s being constantly charged all the time. People give Microsoft flak for not having built in rechargeable batteries in their controllers but at least it has better battery life than a DS4 and when the battery life on the DS4 degrades over time you'll have no choice but to throw it away or stay wired all the time. While the Switch pro controller battery can be replaced, it can't be used for anything else like AA batteries can which comes in handy since buying a couple of rechargeable batteries and charger in the long run has benefited me for when I need to use AA batteries in other things like my Logitech k400 and Steam Controller.

The only thing I'd say is that the touchpad is criminally underutilised. Sure it puts a drain on the battery life, but it could have enabled developers to bring some decently playable rts games to the PS4, something which is sorely missing from the current generation of consoles. Imagine a remastered collection of LOTR: Battle for middle earth 1 +2, Civilisation or even if they brought AOE: 4 to the playstation when it comes out. Instead it just exists now as an overlooked gimmick.

Exactly what I was thinking too when I first saw the DS4. I thought "Wow a touchpad, now it might get more RTS games!", but nope its just being used for gimmicks to the point that it might as well not exist. It's pretty sad how the DS4 can be utilized significantly better on PC than the PS4. With the Steam controller mapping software you can do things like active the gyroscope on the controller so you can use it to aim or have the touchpad act like an actual touchpad.

I know right?! That was honestly my first thought too when I saw it, I mean why else would you give your controller a touch pad lol. Good point about using the DS4 on the PC, hmm it might actually be the best controller for use on the PC then. Besides the Steam controller of course, mind you I've heard doesn't work so well outside of Steam based games.

While I don’t think I’d necessarily say that it’s garbage I do definitely prefer the Xbox One controller over it. The Xbox One controller feels much better. It feels ‘solid’, is more ergonomically contoured, has better trigger buttons, and the asymmetrical layout of the analog sticks feels more natural and comfortable to use.

That’s because it’s outdated and Sony was too scared to change it towards the PS3 release.

The DS4 battery life is shit so it's not worth using unless you're playing a PS4 - which, let's be honest, doesn't happen that much.

Works great for me personally. Fits perfectly in my hands. By comparison, I get cramps when I use the XB1 controller, but that doesn't mean it's a bad controller. My hands are just too small I guess. I have to stretch my thumb too far. Starts to hurt after a while. I never have this problem with the DS4. Again, though, this is just my personal take.

It's the best Sony controller to date... but that isn't saying much. For me, it's complete sh*t compared to the XB1 controller in almost every way.
