The game is Empire Total War. No offense but how obvious is it that that game would need simplifying to work on a console? There's no way you could play that bad boy with a game pad. If you're trying to say this is evidence that PC games need dumbing down on consoles, i think it's a very poor example.Ninja-Hippo
Exactly, the game is a bloody RTS. That basically guarantees the necessity of a keyboard.
Playing a RTS on consoles is like eating soup with a fork, it's just plain not going to work.St_muscatAgreed. I tried Civ4 Revolution, as it was supposed to be one of the most well executed console RTS. Even then, simple tasks that would normally involved a mouse clicks on the PC involved much more than was necessary, not to mention that the game was extremely shallow. This reason is why I, as a lemming, am choosing NOT to hype Halo Wars.
Of course it wouldn;t work. Even simple RTSes like CnC have problems on consoles, let alone monsters like Total War.
Unlike some other developers Creative Assembly knows this, that;s why for their RTS debut on consoles they are making Stormrise, a console-centric RTS, which is the only viable option, trying to squeeze PC RTS into consoles just doesn't work and they sell like crap.
of course that being said TW is of course handled by their best team, while Stormrise is handled by the one responsible for their previous hack and slashes, even if you want to experiment you need your priorities straight :D

consoles are the mainstream now, hermits can moan all they want about games being 'dumbed down' cos they are on consoles, NEWS FLASH:thats the way it is, you can't change it so stop whining about it, either put up with it or quit gaming the choice is yours, cos consoles are here to stay and they are bigger than PC's now.delta3074except that them being mainstream is the very reason why the games got dumbed down.
och well, after seeing so many great PC franchises destroyed by consolization I got tougher, I'm only interested in PC-only development nowadays, even if multiplat game is a sequel to one of my beloved games (like with Mafia2) I feel absolutely no hype for it. The momment it's revealed as multiplat....poof.. all the hype I had is gone instantly.
If a game turns out good in the end I often still buy it, but I feel no hype about it and I prefer to spend money on PC-centric games
I realy don't see what they would need to dumb down the TW games on consoles. o.k. maybe beacose of the audience, but the game is perfectly playable with a gamepad. the TBS part is well, turn based, you really don't need a mouse to move around the screen select cities and que up units to build. the RTT part has a pause button, which makes it extreamly easy to give orders to every of the 20 units +reinforcements with a gamepad, again no need for a mouse. Unit got 1 ability +formations, again not to hard to activate even without pause, the grouping of units together makes things even easyer.
I really don't see which gameplay part of TW would need to be dumbed down to work on consoles and I say that as someone who played all TW games inclusive all expansions and loved every second of playing them, god I have wasted to many hours on the first M:TW, almost failed math beacose of it :D
now to reach a console audience is a difrent manner
