Poor actor looking for work, results to new low. I knew electronics get dusty but that chit was just ridiculos usually the bottom would be clean but no it's uniformly dirty.

im sorry but if I owned a computer store for example, and some dood comes in and buys a PC, then comes back a month later with it looking as bad as that, I would tell him the same thing that sony told this idot... no, and if you want it fixed pay up for your stupidity of taking care of a ( @ the time ) $600.00 machine.
This kid is stupid and the fact that Fox news put him on the air = major lawl

Here is another interesting point. I once worked in a provincial archives. We had this massive warehouse where we stored all kinds of old documents. Of course, any warehouse where items sit around with little movement gets really dusty. I swear, the warehouse i worked in looked EXACTLY like the location in those photos. Endless rows of shelves (that look and are labelled very similartothe shelves in the photo) filled with boxes that look exactly like the one in the foreground. We even labelled all our boxes with black marker in a storage code for cataloguing and identification.
Which leads me to this question; why is this PS3 being photographed in what appears to be a warehouse or long-term storage facility?

And how difficult or time consuming is it to run over your console with a Swiffer or a dampened cloth once every 4 months or so?

They are pictures that Sony took of it while it was in one of their warehouses.
Who the **** would have their console is THAT state? Really! I mean God can't you just have like a special cloth you use to cover it or something(I have one to cover my Xbox) or clean at least once a week? They're machines but they ''die'' too. Geez.
I know people that dont take care of thir stuff. Its not an excuse, but come on. All Sony had to do was use a can of air to clean it off and refrain from calling it a health hazard. gromit007
It does kind of present a health hazzard. It's an insane amount of dust. I don't think their techs have that much protective equipment on them. Just a simple mask and a pair of repair glasses is probably all they have. To clean off something like that, you'd probably need a full-on face shield with a small respirator (is that what they're called?).

I'm sure that the warehouse it was sitting in when Sony took the pics wasnt exactly a 'clean room'. The amount of time they took to take the pictures was more than it would have taken them to take that can of air to it. Next time skip the pics, just fix the damn thing.

And compromise the workers' health and well being?! Maybe something like that would fly in China, but it doesn't work that way here in the States. At least for big companies like Sony.
Personally my favorite part was where he said that he has heard many of the same stories from people and that lots of people on the internet and such have a ps3 that is just as dusty. Anyone here willing to admit they let their ps3 go to that extent, or that they have had major dust problems with their machine.
But really folks, what is wrong with people that an individual that treats his possesions with such disdain and neglect that itresults in the thing breaking down get sympathy. I mean lets say that I didn't clean my house for a year and then asked my landlord to replace the carpet cause it's got stains and dirt all in it that I can't get out with a vacume. Wouldshe replace the carpet? yea, but I'll lose my cleaning deposit and possible get evicted. Or how about I stop showering and then go the the doctors and complain about the sores on my body. Would he have sympathy? Heck no! He'd call me stupid and tell me to start washing myself regularly. The world is going down fast when no one can claim any responciblity for their actions.
Po' baby lost 5 or six hours of his life over 2 weekstalking to Sony over the phone.

What does Ryobi or Black and Decker do if I have to send a power tool in for warranty work?
Its just dust on the damn PS3. Its not like the employees dont inhale a crapload of pollutants on their way to work evryday. Fine, then let them use a vacuum on it. They make them for cleaning electronics.
Lets just leave it at what it is, a bad PR moment in a string of bad PR moments.

What if you didnt clean your car fora year? You try to take it in for a tune-up, but no one will do it because its 'too dirty' and poses a health hazard. How would you react?

Have you been following teh conversation at all? The kid is an actor, there's no way a PS3 could get MUD and dust of that nature without SERIOUS neglect or intentional mucking. Its a hoax, and you can't blame sony for responding to a hoax in this manner.

If my car was as dusty on the inside as that ps3 was on the outside, it would present a health hazard for anyone sitting in it. And, If I didn't take care of my car for a year, it would: A) stop running as the engine would freeze cause it needs an oil change bad,B) take a butt load of money to have someone repair it, a whole lot more than the $150 buck Sony is asking to send him a new one. Further, if I didn't take care of my car do you think that the mechanic wouldn't chastize me for it, telling me how much I could have saved if I simply had taken it in for regular tune ups.
Fact is, you neglect what you own, it ain't no one but your own fault things break down. Take some resposibility dangit.

The guy was saying that maybe the Dusty kid did this purposely to show off his acting skills. You know, kind of like that Lonelygirl thing on Youtube a while back.
At first when I heard the story I decided not to buy a PS3. Then I saw him on Fox News and they showed the PS3 and I was just disgusted.
He should be locked up for console cruelty, how the hell do you manage to get your PS3 that dirty in less than a year?
It looks like he just put it in the bottom of the garbage can for five months. He's probably is a SW visitor, and he's one of the extremist that make Sony vs MS look like its the Final War.

I have to agree with you here. I have never heard of this before and I knew the kid was full of it. Fox made is seem like Sony was so horrible for not fixing the PS3 but after I saw that interview with Clinton on Fox I knew not to take them serioulsy anymore. To think some people who actually watched the show may be gullible enough to believe what they put out there. It's just sad that a news channel like this excist.

Uh yeah..
It was either pay the $150 at the time and they'll fix it or they would send it back.
You kids can hate Sony all you want because they killed your dog or whatever, but this is absolutely not their fault at all. Why the hell should Sony fix this console when the kid treats the system like s***? After all the crap Sony has gone through, you got this fanboy (I don't believe he owns all that Sony garbage he said he supposedly owns cause he has no pics to prove it) and this is probably just some joke that he thought would be funny. All this other stuff thats been going on with Sony, the casuals really didn't know, it was mainly the gamers. This has appeared on the news, and in the papers.
I thought fanboys on here were bad, this is just ridiculous. It makes the fanboys on here look like normal people.
Anyone who doesn't see why this picture looks this way needs to look at it more closely. As we know the PS3 is one of those consoles that have luster. If the PS3 was in a dusty area which would make parts of it looks like that it would have no luster. However parts of this one do have luster which makes me question the pictures authenticity. Also the light from the flashlight or whatever they have pointed at the console seems ot be relecting off it making it look far worse than it actually is. This is a lame attempt by Sony to cover their tracks and you all bought it.
Would another company do this exact same thing? Of course they would. No doubt about it. It's the power fo the media and all of you are just buying into it.
