"so Microsofts next console will probably have DX10" - Hopefully DX11 will be ready by then. I want to see a bigger gap in power than the gap betweenXbox360and DX10.EnergyAbsorber
I think Microsoft are aware of this and will bridge the gap next gen.
I also think the next Xbox will come with a ****load of RAM.

All new consoles better have a ****load of RAM or I'm out of the Console game and staying on my PC.[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]Graphics API's are not important on consoles like they are on PC's. Regardless, whatever GPU Sony uses it will be heavily based upon whatever tech PC's are currently using.rimnet00
Of course they are... they are just as important.
They are just as important. Why do you think so many developers are having problems with the PS3.

OpenGL is A LOT easier to program with than DirectX. I've had first-hand experience.
Everything that's implemented in DX10 is already implemented in OpenGL anyway. OpenGL sets the standard based on the yearly SGI conferences.Spindoc_SEI
Give an example of an openGl game on PC. The last one i played was Quake Wars and it looked really old. If you are referring to the PS3 then that is not what i have been reading.

that is probably true but its not hardware not the software that devs hate[QUOTE="Spindoc_SEI"]Everything that's implemented in DX10 is already implemented in OpenGL anyway. OpenGL sets the standard based on the yearly SGI conferences.Deihmos

i will find some pics comparing the two(DX10 and Open GL 2.1)
OpenGL 2.1 Real-time:
Only a Tech Demo but it is the most photorealistic tech demo you will even see...
Here is a complete comparison

RAGE(id Software's new IP)is supposed to be on Open GL 2.1
Im pretty sure they said they are using DX9.
OpenGL 3 ... which is some ways is better, so Ive heard anyway.Meu2k7
yep, ps3 uses open gl 1.8 imo (but really is it s custom API), and 360 uses dx 9.9c so said by both companies. assuming the trends continue, just add the scores bigger and the consoles will use a better verison of each software...
open gl usually turns out better visuals but it is harder to get good frame rates with (tho easier to work with)as well as things to run on. from what i've seen to, open gl is huge and dx 10 is only great with actual tech demos and graphics...but who knows what about dx 10.9? lol. there is already dx 10.2 which is equal to open gl 3.0
main reason dx is big is becaus eof windows an dpcs using windows. Does mac use open gl or does it uses both? i know windowc an use both but most games run bettwer with dx on windows.
