DX11 is just what DX10 should have been, they rushed out DX10 for Vista; and features that are in DX11 were cut.

That said, I don't think you quite understand how PC hardware works. The install base for DX11 is tiny, DX10 is only now exceeding 60%. Only with a large install base, does full utilization (native support) of a new technology starts to happen on PC. Right now it is just being patched on top of games, most of which are console ports, which is hardly ideal.

PC evolves over time, the market needs time to digest new technology, people wanting instant gratification don't understand how new technologies are implemented on PC.

Developers not utilizing it properly or it all doesn't make it a joke. Fail to see the logic there that makes it a joke at all.

This. To add on to that.. DX11 won't be a standard for a while. It'll work just like all of the other DX versions have.. It will get its support. In a couple of years we'll be using DX11 primarily, while waiting for devs to start utilizing DX12. OP acts as if they're never going to move beyond DX9, ever.

I'm not too worried. By the time DX11 is the standard, I'll buy and unlock another 6950 to crossfire.

When Tessellation becomes stanard, dx9 will be the low end or not supported at all. Feature consoles will of course have tessellation support.

I thought it was going to be cyclical like DX7 > DX10, DX8 > DX11, and DX9 > DX12 whenever that comes out

Shogun 2 has Directx11....not at launch due to the developer wanting to test it out more on different hardware, but its there. So, STOP COMPLAINING!!! They said it would be patched in within 4 weeks or less. I'm pretty sure, all the configs and everything are going go to be there at launch, the patch will just edit some of it and actually unlock it.

You can blame MS for making it Vista only. Otherwise the potential for DX10/11 is huge.

The install base isn't large enough for developers to care that much. DX10 has just recently become large enough that it's being used properly.

If you want a better card your only option are still a DX11 card. I'll admit DX11 has not been great so far, but I guess everyone is hoping its the next DX9, which pretty much every game uses now.

I think the main issue for Direct X 11 is getting publishers to support it when it closes off part of the audience. Direct X9 games tend to be easier to sell if you require a lower system specification so that means the developers/publishers are more likely to support it over the higher end tech which fewer people are able to get hold of. Hopefully DX11 can be supported better than DX10 seemed to get but only time can tell and also perhaps with new consoles with better hardware will lead to an improvement across the PC and console market on the graphics effects front. That being said I am pretty happy with the graphics being shown from games like Battlefield 3.

For the same reason you wouldn't buy anything else with brand new technology that's hardly being used. Truly, you are a master of perception to have been the first to discover this after decades of barely used bleeding edge technology that may or may not become obsolete without ever being popular!

and now the equally blindingly obvious answer that will somehow just now be discovered today for the first time EVER in human history - because the new tech also tends to be pretty sweet, whether or not you use the bleeding edge components of it. Win7 is awesome compared to XP even if you don't use DX11. A GTX 570 is win compared to a GTX 285 even if you don't use DX11. A top of the line 3D-capable TV can still be badass compared to a cheap 2D one even if you don't use the 3D. an $80k Benz that can park itself is still a rather nice car even if you don't use the self-parking. etc.

Yeah, I didn't buy a PS3 because I didn't plan on watching Blu-Ray movies. Wait, it also plays games?! Well wait, no, I don't plan on playing 3D games, so nevermind, there's no point in a PS3 for me. Oh, huh, it can do 2D games? I don't really like motion control though, so there's absolutely nothing I would do with it.

Oh wait, I can play REGULAR games on it too?

Faster speed? Higher Resolution? Immersion (5000-6000 AMD triple screen from 1 video card), HDMI out, lower power consumption, less heat, higher quality settings(AA, particle effects, filtering, textures, etc etc)?

The question is.. Why pose a "rebuttle question" when you are not arguing against anyone.

What is your clasification of "high-end graphics card". I have a 125 dollar DX11 video card that can play all the games I want at my resolution with very high settings and its a card thats only 8 or so months old since being released.

In my opinion dx10 was also a joke. Apart from clear sky, in which it run like ass, nothing else used it right. Hell, even crysis didnt use it properly. The just locked very high for vista and unlocked them on warhead. Oops  suddenly the whole no dx11 on crysis 2 and bad dx11 perfomance on dragon age 2 does not look that weird.

nameless12345

If the idea of "next gen consoles" is 1080p native support at 30-60 fps then I will say that "next gen consoles are already obsolete and outdateD", due I'm currently playing at higher res in a single display and in some cases at higher framerrate. Next gen consoles will not stat anything that PC gamer weren't playing in the last 3 years...

We buy new cards mainly for the performance increase and OVERALL new features and tech.

I didn't buy my 6870 just for DX11, I bought it for the 50%+ performance increase over my old 4850. Also for Morphilogical AA and maybe Ill an Eyefinity setup someday.

The problem is that most console games are DX9 based (with added dx10 software extensions) but not fully dx10 compatible... ps3 doesnt use DX, neither does the wii, and, PC's are just getting used to DX10.

Dx10.1 is what dx 10 was supposed to be, DX 11 is a good improvement of features. Whats nice about DX 10 is that it was a rewrite of the DX code completely, so backwards compatibility from DX11 to DX10 isnt too difficult like DX9 to DX6 was. It's true though, as games progress they will take advantage of what consoles can handle, in case they get ported over. We won't see full use of DX 11 until next generation when its standard in the next xbox (or DX12 by then)
