DX12 May Allow Xbox One To Save GPU Time, Render Ray Tracing, SuperFog And Custom Effects
However, what it can do is free up GPU resources through efficient hardware acceleration. So effects like ray tracing, superFog or whatever custom effects we may see down the line will be implemented and thus allow for an improved frame rate and resolution now that the GPU is free for those tasks.
It will also allow for better adoption on the PC, making the architecture even more similar and allowing developers to implement the same effects on the Xbox One without worrying about what to cut or add for the PC version and vice versa.
look,it didn't take time for the upset camp to show up lol, their devotion and sick love for a piece of plastic (PS4) makes them come to every thread and bash bash bash, sad individuals lol.
@Tessellation: there's no bashing first off all you have is DX12 announced for the X1 no one knows how or what it's going to do to help the X1 or what it's going to include all you guys are saying is "omg DX12 for X1 teh cows have Ben owned" without any information or tests or diagnostics you have nothing, all you is a "may" help, which who cares PS4 is going to get an update for it's GPU to include PSST which is based on OpenGL and which most devs still like using and find easier as of now.

OpenGL...most devs still like using....easier.....
That is literally not even close to fact. If you are going to make ridiculous claims please post sources to back them up. The dev forums for OpenGL are dead.
Question is that is Direct x 12 a tweaked version of Direct x 11 or is it a brand new API introducing new features that require new hardware to support it. also directx 12's major feature is slated to be a 'mantle like' optimization that allows much less of a resource barrier...meaning its hopefully going to be far more efficient...but that is specific to PC...the xbox one already has about as efficient an API as possible...it was developed with AMD and MS specfically for the console...minor improvements may show up here and there, and devs will get more out of it over time...
Yeah like THE CLOUD running AI, shadow, physics and such... just a dream to give you hope. Those who've landed from their dream know that there's no hope when it comes to X1, its weak and here to stay for a decade as is
Do people honestly believe that Microsoft developed the Xbox One without having DirectX12 in mind?.. you really believe that they released a console 4 months ago and then started work on DX12 separately?
This is good news for the console no matter how you slice it. But I do agree that we need to wait and get more info before we can judge just HOW good this news is.. I'm sure most of these questions will be answered at GDC
@ReadingRainbow4: yet it was cows, and i think that was including you, bashing ryse for its fog ? But motion blur is seriously not good (like when you turn/ spin around in bf pc.. or just fast turns .. but obvious my opinion..)

I've lost count on the amount of things I've made fun of Ryse for, you would have to refresh my memory a bit better.
@ReadingRainbow4: maybe you bash Ryse because everyone outside PS4 fantasy land say it has the best graphics of the next generation consoles? Including Gamespot.

I bash Ryse because lem tears rank among the most amazing beverages with which I could hope to quench my thirst.
That is a terrible article. It sounds like the guy doesn't have any idea what a graphical API does. Furthermore he's just speculating on what he thinks DX12 will bring. There hasn't been any news regarding DX12 yet. We only know it's coming and that they'll be going into details later this month at GDC.
SuperFog to hide excessive pop-in and N64-levels of draw distance?
I was going to say, lems hate fog, they've been quite loud about that.
They also hate motion-blur and depth of field.
Also apparently they hate anti-aliasing and weather.
To be fair, motion blur was (over)used in ps360 titles to try and hide bad textures and framerates. And certain AA types (FXAA, I'm looking at you) can cause unattractive blurriness as well. Wouldn't understand any complaints about good old fashioned MSAA, though.

Even if he doesn't know what a graphical API does how does he think DX12 can accomplish this? I'm not tech savvy by any means of the word I can put a PC together and that's about it, but what he's suggesting doesn't make any sense
I mean is there anyway DX12 could accomplish what he's suggesting it will do?
Xbox One may already be using some features of DX12...look at the games.
DR3 has a ton of NPC's on screen each unique.
Ryse has the best graphics of any game out now, heck there is even moments when there are at least 30 NPC's on screens with explosions and particles effects.
Forza 5 1080p and 60fps locked during multiplayer.
Killer Instinct super fast gameplay and tons of particles effects is amazing.
A lot of PS4 games right now seem void and empty with not very many NPC's in the world and lot flat uninteresting environment, just so Sony can say " it's 1080p"..."its the best"...
Can anyone offer any examples of Software making up for shit hardware to a noticeable degree?
Windows 8 runs noticeable faster than Windows 7 on my laptop. On my backup Galaxy S3 phone, Jelly Bean makes the phone faster than the original OS. Not direct comparisons but software can make hardware run faster.
D12 wont make up for a weak gpu and slow RAM. Xbots are dumb.
Right and you know this without seeing it for yourself.
You want to make a bet that it won't make up for a weak gpu and slow RAM? How much you want to bet? I'll bet you whatever you want.
I'm not betting anything. But you guys seem to think that it won't do anything at all. It's not going to make the Xbone One more powerful than the PS4. You don't need to worry about that.

1) DR3 looks like a last-gen game. Also, having a ton of NPCs each with a negative IQ does not take as much computational power as you think it does.
2) Ryse has the best graphics of any game out now, heck there is even moments when there are at least 30 NPC's on screens with explosions and particles effects.
Those scenes with 30 NPCs are pre-rendered. Also, I'm sure RYSE could be run on last-gen consoles.
3) Forza 5 1080p and 60fps locked during multiplayer.
Forza 5 could be run on last-gen consoles.

Infamous: SS would like to have a word with you. Tons of NPC, open-world, 1080p, locked 30 FPS with no dips, real-time perma destruction, incredible particle effects, best graphics on consoles.
Unlike RYSE, Forza 5, and KI, InFamous: SS CAN'T be run on last-gen consoles. That's the difference.
Wake me up when they patch an existing game for dx12 and do a benchmark.
There are way too many promises with the Xbox. First it was the SDK, then it was the drivers and now it's DX12 next week it will probably be a firmware update to make the Xbox and undetermined amount faster but only for new games...
Look.. even if MS released DX15 it won't make the Xbox one any better than the competition. Same shit they said about the Cloud power. Running around your intelligence like you are fools, make you buy the kinect hardware gimmick that third party devs cannot primarily support, it sucks out a good chunk of the little power the xbone has and you guys are still buying into junk. So DX12 will now dramatically change things? Lems are really stupid.
