So let's get down to basics. As we mentioned in our performance analysis, Dying Light operates at a rendering resolution of 1920x1080 on PS4 while Xbox One is in the region of 1536x1080, with both seemingly using a variant of SMAA T2X anti-aliasing. That's usually one of the best forms of post-process anti-aliasing available but in Dying Light, there are some noticeable 'ghosting' artefacts.

We've already covered Dying Light console performance of course, but we do have a few additional comments based on further play. On Xbox One, tearing appears in conjunction with GPU-taxing elements such as foliage, smoke, and dynamic lighting. Running near an open flame with smoke billowing out or through any foliage-dense fields triggers torn frames that impact fluidity. It crops up more than our initial tests suggested and definitely impacts the overall consistency of the experience. To cut a long story short, we recommend avoiding the Xbox One version of Dying Light if you have trouble getting on with screen-tear.

On PlayStation 4, the frame-rate remains very stable but there are instances where performance jumps momentarily above 30fps, introducing judder. Essentially, in a number of less demanding sections, such as the separate underground quests or when simply looking towards the sky while standing on a high perch, we note plenty of lurches as the frame-rate jumps over 30fps for just a split-second. It hurts the fluidity of the experience in these situations and we hope it's addressed in a future patch.

Between the two console versions we definitely have to give the nod to the PS4 version with its improved frame-rate and better texture streaming, its higher resolution, and a near complete lack of screen-tear. However, anyone with a decent gaming PC should definitely stick to the computer version as it offers excellent scalability alongside further improved visuals.

I Have it for pc and I'm disappointed with how poorly the game is optimized, runs like crap compared to other graphically demanding games on my pc.

It's obvious that it runs better on ps4 than xbox but I do wonder how much of the xbox problems are down to the developer, DF seem to not rate there ability to highly.

Unity, sunset, look better and run better than this mess.

If I didn't already have it for pc I would of got the ps4 version they seem to have messed the xbox one up some.

Wow, screen tearing in that video for Xbox One was horrible. Frames are bad as well, I'd rather them lower the resolution even more to get it stable than play something like this.

That part is about screen tearing not frame drops,tearing appear when GPU taxing elements appear.

This has nothing to do with the cpu, the framerates drops on the xboxone are completely gpu related.

As it seems now the ps4 version is definitely the better console version, however I've been playing this game and the most intensive cpu tasks are simply not shown in this video. I don't think they avoided them because they come a bit later in the game, but not much later, i encountered them already at 6 percent completion.

That means, and it also shows in the video, that eurogamer didn't test this environments, environments that take place on high buildings. At the end of the video they show something similar, but that part is completely prerendered. Even after that it's still the tutorial and there the frames don't match what happens later in game at all. I would really like to see someone climb a high building and then look at the ps4's frames. It could be it's steady though, since the ps4 view distance is below the lowest setting on the pc.

So what's even the point in comparing two turds, what does it matter if one turd is uglier than the other, they're still turds. If you want to play this game and you have even remotely the means of buying a pc, get rid of those laughable consoles. My pc costed me 400$, I did buy some parts second handed though but for the same price of a new ps4 I have a much, much better version of any game.

You can't play the ps4 exclusives though, but remember this, most multiplats from now on will look and play like crap and you can't play pc-exclusives as well. Controllers, party chat, all that console stuff is available on the pc as well.

The truth is the CPU in both the xbox one and PS4 don't have a gap big enough even to produce 2 frame more per second in favor of the xbox one,200mhz in a CPU like an i5 which is stronger and faster than the Jaguar inside both consoles yield like 2 frames difference in games,so you can imagine what 100+ mhz will do on a jaguar.

And i have a PC also dying light as well on it,this is about the xbox one version vs the PS4 one,and how after each and every SDK the xbox one continues to trail the PS4..lol

2 frames mean nothing, it's percentage that matters. The cpu is about 10 percent faster in the xboxone. So on cpu intensive tasks it could hold the 30 fps and the ps4 can drop to 27 fps (that's 10 percent). The framerate drops between the xboxone and ps4 are not only higher , it's the ps4 that gets the better frames. Since the ps4's gpu (esram not included) is 50 percent faster than the x1's it's only obvious that the framerate drops are because of the gpu.

Even with the lower resolution the xboxone isn't able to hold a steady fps, this is simply because they didn't make proper use of the esram and/or the esram was simply not usable for them..Had they been able to use that, they would have been able to keep steady 30 fps at this resolution (1536x1080)

It is a fact that the superior gpu in the ps4 really makes the difference here. They better released the game at 720p on the x1 instead because these framerates drops are simply not acceptable. Either way, this one seems like a clear win for your camp tormentos.

It's becoming clear to me now that you either 1. Just say stuff that makes no sense for the sake of having something to argue about or 2. You really have no clue about what you are talking about.

That being said DF clearly states in your quote that the X1 framerate drops are being caused by the gpu, this is omething you commonly do. You post a link that says something completely different form your statements but you somehow try to twist it to fit your own agenda.

Unity was a mess on both consoles, but the difference between Unity and Dying light is that Unity framerate drops where caused by the massive amount of AI taxing the cpu in the PS4, Dying light is taxing the gpu on the x1 when there is more GPU taxing stuff going on.

You can compare Sunset to SS? Infamous is a third person, open world, action game that even PS fans are saying the world is dead. Sunset is a 3rd person, open world game, action game, it just has more AI on screen than SS does during street fights.

Probably they wanted to compensate smaller res with anisotropic filtering. It was a trade-off. The game looks, runs and plays great on X1. What's more - it's impossible to tell the resolution unlike in Far Cry 4. It's not a pathetic port like PS3 version of Red Dead Redemption on PS3.

Lol it doesn't run great on the Xbox, there's tearing out the wazoo and frequent drops in frames into the twenties.

To quote Digital Foundry: "To cut a long story short, we recommend avoiding the Xbox One version of Dying Light if you have trouble getting on with screen-tear."

Pretty dissapointing seeing as we are only a year into the gen

Not sure how any self respecting gamer will buy a multiplat on a ps4 when pc looks so much better

What if they don't have a PC? My friend only has a PS4 and a tablet.

Even after the patch it runs the same on my PC. (20-30 outside, 40-60 inside) Got it running on a laptop that has an AMD APU by editing some of the config and using that tool someone made on the Steam community forum. (Looks worse than consoles but hey it playable on something far lower than the min specs.)

The game is tons of fun so far though.

@clyde46: i have a pc with a 2500k 4.3ghz 8gb and 970 sli hooked up to both a 1440p monitor and 55" lg 4k tv (which does 4k@60hz over hdmi 2.0) and got it on ps4 jus to play wit real life friends And family.... But looking at the visuals and kinda regretting it thinking this would look so much better on my pc even if had to lock it at 30fps... But o well

So, best on PC? Well, it didn't take too long for PC lowest settings to surpass console versions.

I don't understand your comment....I built a gaming pc because consoles are shithouse and have had enough of 30fps junk.

The only good thing about each one is unchartered/LOU and halo/gears/forza.
