e3 `95 was great, showing the Saturn and introducing the Playstation, but e3 `09 was horrible in comparison "Wanna see what the bottom of a shoe looks like?" MS "No more sitting on your couch" MS It's like, not gaming anymore. If I was to known the industry end up like this, I would've kept my N64, because it kinda went downhill from there. Same thing happened to MTV after `95. No more Alice in Chains, or Nirvana, here's Britney Spears and Eminem.

Oh come on. You take two quotes, ignore everything else this E3 and then try to act as if this E3 paled in comparison.

I'm sure anyone can quote mine something from E3 95 to make it look bad.

He made a comment about the bottom of his shoe. A lot of the time, people are trying to be humorous at E3 to calm their nerves and to get everyone relaxed. Sure the jokes suck, but your pulling quotes that are bad on purpose. (I'm assuming the shoe bit was when the MS guy lifted up his foot for the Natal demonstration, right everybody?)

Nah. MS will always bring the hardcore. If you haven't checked out the Giant Bomb vid interview, then you should...

http://www.giantbomb.com/e3-2009-interview-microsoft/17-831/

I like the fact that they're trying to actually start to cater to the more casual market, but they're still focusing on the hardcore games. He addresses that not every game is good with a motion controller, and he says that a motion controller will always be seperate and compliment, not replace, the normal controller. He says the same thing about retail vs. digital distribution. I like the way they're headed. They will always be about core gaming, but at the same time offer something for everyone else.

E3 has zero to do with what you're complaining about. Natal, Motion Plus and Sony Motion Plus are all VERY game related. Practically everything about them that was shown was game related. Everything else at E3 was 100% games, outside of 10 minutes out of 72 hours that were about Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. PS, Eminem and Britney Spears have sold like over 15-20 million albums each. They have HUGE fan bases. If you don't like them thats more proof of you being out of touch with what people like than them making bad music.

Gimme a break. If you mean "MTV" as in the music channel that shaped a generation, was culturally relevant, played music, had creative TV shows, and launched the careers of dozens of bands and personalities, then yes, E3 is fantastic. If you mean MTV as it is now, a bloated, sleazy conglomerate wasteland with no ability to detect talent, a stable of personality-devoid drones, and the social relevance of a backwater local newspaper, then no - E3 is nothing like that. The period where E3 sucked was in 2006 and 2007, when the shows were far too loud, booth babes were everywhere, the general public was allowed to attend, and it essentially became your average Vegas convention - a vast number of obese attendees lumbering through overly gaudy booths, food hanging from their mouths, as they molested unfortunate young women dressed in skimpy outfits. It was a cabaret of the worst humanity could offer. In 2008 the convention became something akin to a middle school science fair - booths so small they could barely hold a poster for the game being advertised, empty conference halls as show rooms, and weak presentations held off-site. - If anything, 2009 was a return to form for E3. The booths were fantastic, well-designed, and game-driven. The booth babes, while present, were not the focus of the show. Bloggers were allowed to attend, but only those who paid the hefty dues - we did not have hundreds of GameStop employees chatting up every presenter, or harassing game developers. In short, it was a true industry meeting - enjoyed by both the new and old generation of reporters ("old media" and bloggers, respectively), driven by games, and built for gamers. I liked E3 2009, I liked it a lot - if the show can maintain this kind of "games are what we're here for" mentality, I hope it continues forever. - What I don't want to see is 2006, 2007, or 2008 again - the extremes sleaze or the quiet "science fair" atmosphere - neither speak well for gaming.

E3 is about businesses and press. Hence why their keynotes are as much about sales and the future as it is about games. And yes, the revealing of a new platform will be more exciting than an E3 in the middle of a generation.
