Facebook is a free network platform too right? Zuckerberg alone earns more than a billion dollars a year because of it.

Soooo? Bejewled was made before EA bought Popcap sooo they wont make any money until they make new games...it will take 20years for popcap to break even..stupid move by EA...[QUOTE="Mograine"]Never heard of Bejewled so it cant be that good and its an free iphone game right? yeah too bad that wont make them 750m profit... Yep, I'm sure some random internet guy knows more than a bachelor of science in economics who studied at Berkley and that has run his business successfully for years now.

To quote the LA Times:
"Founded in 2000, PopCap is perhaps most famous for its first breakout title, Bejeweled. The puzzle game, and its subsequent variants, have sold more than 50 million units in the last 11 years."
"[Popcap] is on track to bring in revenue of $130 million, up from $100 million in 2010."
Something tells me that with EA's support, bringing in $750million over the next five years shouldn't be too difficult.
Its obvious why they have done this though, they can have Pop Cap produce games for very little production cost and then sell those games on Origin, where they get pretty much full proffit from the sales. They know the casual games make money and need to open Origin up to a wider audience, PopCap games are suitable for pretty much any hardware any download speed and any age.
[QUOTE="yellonet"]Why do you care? try Reading the thread...750m could been spent on better games BF3 Bf4 MOH2 ME2 ME4 DA3[QUOTE="Supah-FLU"]Why the hell would you buy PopCap for 750M?Supah-FLU
ea has tons of money, and with ea marketing, pop cap may turn into a 300 million dollar a year company.

Something tells me that with EA's support, bringing in $750million over the next five years shouldn't be too difficult. Profits this year will be $40 million or something like that. Turning this $750 million acquisition into a profitable one is a significant undertaking. If EA through expanding the customerbase by releasing Popcap games on more platforms and whatnot, manage to double the profit, it'd still take about 9 years before they've broken even.
See, PopCap Games will actually bring EA some money, it's not like the situation where Microsoft bought Rare.......
Popcap made $100 Million in revenue last year. And are projected to make $160 Million this year. And for Popcap to get the full $1.3 Billion sum, they have to make a PROFIT(not just Revenue) of $600 Million in 2012 and 2013(combined of course). EA is probably going to lay off a ton of the staff(none of the developers, just the HR, Support, QA, and some of the marketing, since they already have all of those things). I expect over the course of this year, Popcap will net EA about $30 million in profits and $100 million in revenue. Then, next year and the year after, EA will make back most of the investment. However, Popcap will continue making money for EA fo the next 15 years. It was a smart purchase.
PopCap games generate $100+ million a year on their own. Just because YOU have only heard of a few games doesnt make them small time. With the funding, publishing, and distribution know-how from EA, those numbers could jump to 300 million a year, making the company well worth it. PopCap has tons of unique and fun games that never got any coverage. EA could revive those on every platform imaginable and it would sell like crazy, especially on PSN and XBL.navyguy21
EA is hoping for more than $300 million a year from Popcap. They want to make Popcap into a Zynga competitor. They want to approach the $900 Million dollars in annual Revenue that Zynga is making...
